Its about time insurance companies prosecuted people that false claim or hit n run.
I had a guy hit the side of my car because he forced his way in. He first got out of his car arguing he was in the right because he indicated, lol.
Luckily before I had my camera a witness ( yeah they do exist) stopped and wrote his plate down.
The guy who hit my car after realising he was wrong decided to do a runner and not swap details.
My insurance company gave me his insurance details from the plate so I contacted his insurance after a while of which they were unaware of the incident. I'd reported it to the police and his insurance paid out but I bet it dosnt appear on his insurance record that he did a bunk.

Easy job really but car models differ. I placed mine top centre screen and tucked the cable under the roof headliner across to the rubber door/screen pillar. Then pull back the rubber door seal and tuck it behind down to the point where it meets the dashboard. Then just hide it behind/under the dash to the middle of the console or wherever your lighter socket is. I also considered hard wiring but you need to have a suitable power supply rated the same as the lighter adaptor output. I haven't measured the voltage at the camera end but suspect it is dropped to 5 volt by the 12v lighter adapter. I think kits are available to wire directly off a 12v supply.
Wife and I both have these in our cars. It jinxed the wife though as she hit someone a very low speed when she slipped off the clutch but the video of the other driver getting out if the car and inspecting the cars, laughing and joking was invaluable when she claimed to be a paralysed the next day on her insurance claim. Our insurance company thanked us for the video and the other driver withdrew her injury claim.

Bought the DP220 today from Argos for £100.98 with a free toy car and a £10 voucher.
I've got one of the cheap £15 ones in the other car but it's burnt a couple of memory cards.
I'd have usually always bought from Amazon but with the suction mount Amazon was £107 against £91 at Argos.
The unit is a lot easier to use than the cheap units and just seems better built.
Done some recordings on the way home from work and more than happy with the quality.

Having a 32gb card is a bit pointless in one of these, it only means you will have more vidoe to have to search through and the protected recordings still remain at 15. The BIG chrome bezel is also hardly steathy and it stands out much more than the 220's, lane departure works quite well on the 220, car in front less so as it isn't very good at detecting corners. Between the 2 I prefer the viewing on the video of the 220 over the 200 too as it is a lot less fisheye'd.
Oh and yes I had a 200 prior to buying the 220.
Zuulan
2 May 16#73
I did the same. I can imagine the lane departure and frontal warnings are probably more of an annoyance then a useful feature anyway. The only downside is the lack of battery, so the date & time isn't remembered by the unit. I'd have the extra £30 saving though.
I used the £5 voucher towards some bed sheets.

Well spotted, I'd imagine all they've done is refitted the 200's with the newer batteries. Its a hard toss up between the 2 now as most people dont want the gps. Its now really aperture vs angle between the 2.
qwerta369
2 May 16#70
I've decided the 200+32gb is better than the 200 and the 220.
Reason is, it's £99 on Amazon, same price as the 220 at Argos. No £10 Argos voucher but you get a 32gb microSD card included. No GPS but you get the 160 degree viewing angle of the 200 (the 220 only has 130 degrees). You also get the built-in battery (for car park incidents) of the 220 that is lacking in the 200.
The 200+32gb is apparently "the" 2016 model. Does that mean the 200 and the 220 are older models? Not sure. It's a funny configuration of models but, in short, I think the 200+32gb is the best of the bunch.

If you are reversing then you will also be at fault. If you are trying to prove reckless driving than thats a matter for the police anyway because the insurance is only interested who is at fault and if the reckless driver behind you hits you they are at fault regardless.

I have the 200 unit with WiFi. Video footage is very clear, stable and you can pick out license plates fine. My first unit kept freezing too, as someone posted earlier but Amazon replaced it swiftly. The device is supposed to overwrite older files but I think it gets confused when the card it nearly full, then stops writing. All you need to do is reformat the SD card while in the unit. Used WiFi once, it is really slow transferring files so you're better off putting the card into a reader to copy or play files on a laptop or PC.

My post has nothing to do with this deal.
I don't want to start an argument but I will write my experience. People can read and decide for themselves. Following a deal from this website I purchased a new LG monitor sold by amazon themselves (not warehouse). I knew something was wrong when I saw the box. (I deal with this sort of things at work every day) There were two layers of tape sealing the box, the underneath one was cut. Parts of the packaging inside the box were missing and the screen had a 2cm scratch (definitely not from transport or handling). I called amazon to complain about it but they told me I will get a refund once I return it (5 stars for the return and refund service). I then decided to write a negative (1 star) review to let other people know about my experience. For one week I updated the review every day on amazon's website but they never approved it. I gave up eventually. Other people had same experience with amazon monitors. I guess many people don't know when a box was previously open if the seller reseal it carefully.

Thanks. I noticed that too in the specs. So maybe the 200 is better than the 220 after all?
Zuulan
1 May 162#56
The 220 has a few extra features like GPS, lane departure and front collision warning functions but strangely the 200 has a wider viewing angle of 160 degrees versus 130 for the 220. Those extra 30 degrees might be invaluable if someone comes at you from the side. Like someone those just overtaken you and decided to move back into your lane without fully driven past you. Which has happened to me before.

You CAN turn off the GPS on this camera. The camera itself is a better version than the cheaper model that doesnt have GPS. It doesnt have a stand out shiny chrome ring in front which most people complain about. It has a better battery and doesnt suffer with date resetting like the previous model. So even if you dont use GPS as I dont its still a better model.

depends on the model most cameras I have seen or used have no way of switching off the GPS speed but even if it does, it makes more sense to pay less for no GPS and the Speed is hardcoded into the video itself. removing it would mean cropping the video and that would result in it not being admissible as its been edited.

Simple enough to strip the speed data from the video if you need to, or you could simply just switch it off.

My point is everyone thinks GPS on a dashcam is a good idea, until you need to make a claim and it recorded you at 1MPH above the speed limit and regardless of fault the insurance company refuses to pay out because you were speeding.
and now ill get the usual I dont speed rubbish, so you must be that one person on the road I get stuck behind doing 40 on national speed.
androoski
1 May 16#40
Speedometers can be much less accurate than 1-2 MPH.
A GPS gets more accurate the longer you spend at a steady speed (so cruise control on a motorway GPS will be very accurate). If your speed is going up and down then GPS is not going to be accurate.
My GPS I use for running has recorded me at 27MPH, but I don't think Usain Bolt needs to worry much.

The adhesive mount is nice and firm but the suction mount when tightened on the forward/backward swivel causes a vibration therefore the swivel needs to be adjusted so it basically hangs loose which is not ideal as any harsh forward or backward motion will then cause the camera to move instead of being firm like it is in the adhesive mount.
I dont know how common this problem is, maybe its just mine or maybe it depends on the angle of the windscreen as to whether it happens or not but I definitely prefer the adhesive mount.Either mount can be purchased separately for about £6.

Should I get this one or spend another £20 and get the 520? Looking at the transcend website, the 220 has features lacking on on the 520, despite it being the pricier, newer model. Seeing as I've been rear-ended in the past, a rear facing camera would be useful also.
rhinopaul to StolenDiagram

Doesnt look like it would capture much on the rear apart from your passengers. Only a camera mounted to the rear window would really capture the full incident.

Its really easy. 10 min job or less.
It comes with a very long cable that plugs into the cigarette socket.
I have a Range Rover but the principals are the same for every car. Tuck it under the roof lining to start. The lining should be flexible by the windscreen so no need to rip it out just tuck the cable into it where it joins the windscreen. Then pass it down the side pillar by the door, thats probably the hardest bit but most pillars simply pull off and snap back in ( held on by clips) then pass it down under the drivers footwell along to the cigarette lighter.
A garage should charge you no more than their minimum labour which is usually half hour appx £30-£40.
Depending on your cars wiring system will depend if you hard wire it. ie does your cigarette lighter stay powered when the engine is off, if so then you will drain the car battery but you will obviously pay a lot more money to hard wire it anyway.
Why would you treat an old mobile differently to a specific dash cam? Surely using a device you already own serves the purpose of saving money.

I can believe that, also greece & spain are pretty bad.
The thing here in France is they have archaic rules that were made when horse n carts were used.
You generally give way to the left on a roundabout here but some you give way to the right so if you are already on the roundabout you have to stop and allow others to enter the roundabout.
You also give way to the right on roads here which is just ludicrous . So I can be driving down a long stretch of road and at every joining side road I have to more or less stop to see if there is any joining traffic as they have right of way and the French wont consider slowing down for you at these junctions and just pull out on you at speed as they have right of way despite it being difficult to see them .

Had mine about 8 months now. So glad I have it.
I did have to return the first unit as it kept freezing and I couldnt play back the video but the second unit has been fine.
So far have recorded a car hitting us though didnt need it at evidence as he admitted liability straight away.
Untold amount of near misses of people cutting into me.
But the biggest recording was a police chase. 2 stolen cars . One crashed into the other side of the road and hit a car and the other got stuck in traffic and the police slam dunked the youths to the ground.
I do live in France and they are just crazy, reckless drivers here. Most of the cars here are damaged in some way.

So I can be driving down a long stretch of road and at every joining side road I have to more or less stop to see if there is any joining traffic as they have right of way and the French wont consider slowing down for you at these junctions and just pull out on you at speed as they have right of way despite it being difficult to see them .

I couldnt stand driving to town using petrol, finding a parking space, rubbing shoulders with the morons in town and then dealing with idiots when trying to return the item back to Argos.:man:
