do you know what halal really means?

Well you ask this question the same as you asking if this meat is halal if your religion requires you to eat only halal.

I'd simply ask if it's halal or not and you've got to trust the owners word.
It's the same if you're a Muslim, you ask if the meat is halal.

I really do doubt you actually ask each and every place you shop/eat that if it is halal...
And even if they say it's not, what if the owner was deceived in receiving it otherwise? Like said above, a lot of the time it slips through to mainstream production and unmarked. So you really can't be sure? You not aware of the scandal that occurred in highstreet retailers where they were selling halal meat without specifying?

And therein lies the problem nowadays, companies like subway and kfc offer halal in some stores mainly near a predominant Muslim population, but some Muslims reject it out of "principle". Yet these same people go to the local halal butchers and think just because he's got a beard and brown skin the meat is halal. I could open a butchers, get any random meat supplier regardless pf it being halal or not, stick a load of halal stickers on the front of the store, print off a fake HMC or HFA certificate and sell "halal" meat

You can really doubt it all you like, but I know my area and I know which kabab shops serve halal and which don't. So if it was a new place I would ask. However I can generally tell if it's likely to be a muslim shop opposed to perhaps a Sikh or Hindu owned one.
Of course there are issues with the supply line and sometimes the owner won't 100% be able to protect themselves.
As I said, it's the same for those who want to eat halal.....they can be deceived too.
