Tesco have 70cl bottles of Stolichnaya Premium Vodka down to £13 online and in-store at the moment (was £20). Great deal for one of the best vodkas available at this price (my opinion of course).

"Русский Стандарт" is indeed in Russian using Cyrillic (alphabet) and is not gimmick.
- transcript into latin alphabet would be: Russkij Standart
- translation into English would be: Russian Standard

dammit. i'll be having words with my father-in-law...
probably shouldn't have believed him, given the amount of vodka i was actually drinking at the time
but no, russian standard is not a particularly smooth vodka, although it's better than most supermarket brands. i'd still recommend either stolichnaya or luksosowa over it.

Russian Standard has water from Lake Ladoga, making it very smooth even for mid range vodka. Tried this and many others, always come back to Russian Standard, Stoli is better when flavoured vodka wanted. As for the Cyrillic gimmick, try "Русский Стандарт" in google translate, you'll find it spells Russian Standard exactly, I didn't believe either.
PS. OP, good find, will get some at this price for drink cabinet variety.

This is probably the best of the cheaper end of the market and good for £13. Btw if you ever see Russian standard platinum cheap buy it ... Really smooth , got a bottle in tesco at xmas for £11 ,very impressive and smoother than grey goose .

Is this better or worse than Russian Standard?

Down to personal taste really, both are very good mid-range vodkas. I personally prefer Stoli, but genuinely enjoy both

much better. doesn't have any of the harsh, oiliness of russian standard.
as an aside, you know the cyrillic lettering on the front of the russian standard bottle? it's not russian. someone typed 'russian standard' into a word processor, highlighted it, and selected 'cyrillic' as the font.

I haven't sampled much in the way of vodka but I do appreciate that they all have distinctive flavours, I've tried many good brand's of whiskey that we used to buy my Dad for Xmas and I can tell the difference but I would struggle to say they're nice.
Is it all about just appreciating the different ingredients, to be honest I just can't see the point myself but I have nothing against thoughs that do?

Have a bottle in the freezer - and best mid price vodka out there i reckon.
So so much nicer than your Absolut or Smirnoff, but not grey goose or belvedere smooth.

I like Grey Goose but feel it's very overrated, especially for it's price. Belvedere is very nice though, one of my favourites

It's a very smooth vodka and tastes very nice. It always rates very high in polls, even compared to more expensive vodkas. Highly recommended, especially at this price.
