Now films like Godfather, Goodfellas movies with minimal sfx / vfx are fine on normal volume.

Thought I would give this a shot - paid my 4.99 and started to stream the HD movie straight away via Sony smart tv.
Control - pause/play/forward - was all seamless, was concerned that it would be a mare to operate but it wasn't.
Visual quality is good enough for my eyes along with the stereo sound.
Thumbs up from me, saved myself ten pounds in my eyes but others who are mega-critical about quality picture etc may not be happy.

You seem to be dressing up the word theft.. So why can't they 'dress up' their argument?
Theoretical loss of revenue is not the same as theft... They watched it for free because they could, there are legitimate ways to watch for free as well (such as borrow a dvd off a mate, or wait for it to show up on tv). Suggesting they would have paid money to see it if they couldn't have seen it for free could never be proven.

'the industry' provide a product. if people aren't happy with the product, or the price structure, then they can choose not to buy it. theft is theft, regardless of how you dress it up. you're not entitled to watch a film that someone else has invested heavily in to make happen. you pay that company for that privilege.

If the industry provide a better service then people will pay. At the minute pirating is not only cheaper (free) but also the better service in some cases. That's the problem.
I understand a small percentage would still download to save a couple of quid at that point we can call them but at the minute you can't blame the Pirates and when we get to the point that we can they will be getting a worse experience than those of us who pay so I for one won't care

I don't think the comparison is the same, mainly as piracy is not stealing (despite how much they tell us so) copying content is not the same as stealing it. Theft is taking the original, this is making a copy.
An example, I have a snes upstairs and own several games for it. I also have all of these games on an r4 card that I play on my ds and I refuse to pay £5 for another copy on that store.
I also have all of the orignial Star Wars films on DVD yet last time I watched the films it was from a torrent I downloaded to stick on my HDD and watch in bed. I didn't steal those and I'm not a thief.
I'm not saying piracy is right but I more than understand why it exists and why people do it. I don't think it makes them bad people or thieves

Comparing the two, I saw the digital HD copy several times earlier this week and I can't really complain at £4.99. But I've had the Blu-ray of this for a couple of days and I must say it is well worth paying full price for. You'd easily see which is which playing the two side by side. One of the best looking Blu-ray releases I've ever viewed. The sharpness and detail is absolutely fantastic. Audio is unbelievable as well. Donnie Yen looks like he'll have one of the best scenes in the movie, going all Ip Man on stormtroopers! I thought the AT-AT's were on the paracel storm map in battlefield 3. The film looks to be something different for a star wars movie which is a good thing imo, added variance to the franchise, and would be interesting to see how the Rebels get the plans to Death Star 1 without using the force or lightsabers.

I know what you are saying and you do have a point in that content providers still don't give us enough legitimate ways to purchase content in the way we want - but you could make a similar excuse for other crimes too. e.g. someone leaves a window open so its OK for someone else to come in and steal their stuff, or someone sets their password to "password1" so therefore its OK to hack their email account.
There is no excuse for piracy imo - it only hurts content producers and in the long run, consumers.

That's harsh. The movie industry has been behind on technology for years hence the massive rise in piracy. They should be providing a superior service that is the easiest to use for a reasonable price and people would pay it. Look at Netflix for example.
They are being greedy sticking to this old style of release on Blu ray, then special edition. Then if you bought one of those you have to purchase from elsewhere to watch on your P.C, all months after the cinema and then waiting years to put on streaming services people are already paying for.
