You could combine these with a Lepy LP 2024A+ amplifier (around £20 on Amazon) and a Bluetooth adapter or Chromecast Audio and end up with an ultra-cheap system that sounds better than the one in the original post.

Volume on this is really low. OK for a kids bedroom if you don't want to have to keep telling them to " turn that music down".

Got bored of his condescending remarks remarkably like your pathetic taunt. I was making a point just as much as he was. I had made a comment about the item in question. He's making comments about a totally different system. If you want to read this answer please feel free to get bored and yawn as much as you like. If you don't get bored, carry on with your sad pathetic comments, however I doubt that your deep political views reach out to the Third Reich!

The suggestion wasn't for your benefit or meant as a criticism of you! It was motivated by the thought that it seems wasteful for anyone thinking of buying this now to do so and immediately replace the speakers. Other comments indicate that some are looking for something to play music from their smartphone or tablet, perhaps using the Chromecast Audio that's currently on offer in Currys. For them it would be cheaper and less wasteful to buy your suggested speakers and a different amplifier. Obviously this doesn't apply if you actually need the CD player and radio that the Sony includes.

My point was I already bought it! Advice on this site obviously isn't worth giving when we have know it all's like you to give their opinion.
Should sound much better than the Sony, although obviously you're missing the DAB radio or the CD player.

Give your children a half-decent stereo.. or they will have to turn it up really high to hear it.. so you get a tinny rasping noise coming from their bedroom. Also .. CD player? Wow. Retro.
This does not have a Bluetooth. saw a Bush system on Argos site which has same specs + Bluetooth and is costing £70.

My point was, if you're going to be paying an extra £20 for speakers, why not just ditch the whole lot for something better and cheaper?

You could however I bought this system for my Mrs 2 years ago. It cost £99, looks nice however functionality very poor. I bought the speakers as it was extremely poor in sound quality and I mean poor. I also had to doctor the conection to the speakers as Sony has made stupid speaker plugs instead of the usual wire and hole speaker connections. I would not recommend buying this system but if you must the speaker change is essential.

system itself is decent quality and feels well made. Speakers are OK. It's a nice system, especially at this price, just not particularly loud

Hmm, maybe something wrong with the mobile site as it was trying to charge me ... unless it comes back off once you pay? Either way still a great deal.

What do you think about the system otherwise? It might be fine for my son's bedroom and looks quite smart (important for an 11 year old).

When I was a kid I loved listening to loud pop music, but now I'm grown up I don't.
So this system seems ideal for an adult but unsuitable for children.
