189.99 isn't bad for a 39" 4k TV, even if it is seiki. If anyone has any better deals then feel free to comment them!

Good to know, what did you get to replace it? Just because I'm looking for a cheap but decent TV to take to uni.
Personally I wouldn't use freeview anyway, but I understand some people would.

I actually work at argos, and am there now! But yes, that is HD ready, so not worth the box it comes in.
A little too expensive for me, I will be a poor student come September, so <£200 for me

What's the response time like on this TV? Got a Panasonic (Vestel) 4K tv from Argos Outlet when that eBay voucher deal was on, had to return it immediately as there was so much lag between me moving my mouse and the pointer moving on screen.
I got mine for monitor duty and once the sharpness was turned right down it does a good job (couple of slightly darker small patches at the very top of the screen). Actually came with 4 rather than 3 HDMI sockets (one of which was 2.0 spec).

is it comfy as a monitor or to big?

9 Apr 16#20
That was a good question. This TV is only 120Hz at 1080p. At 4K it drops down to 30Hz and by all accounts is a bit laggy to use even as a monitor. No twitch-shooters with this bad boy.

No need for the sarcasm, take that elsewhere. Response times can differ depending on the resolution and I'd rather get feedback from someone who has used the device than a vague 6ms measurement - is that 1080p and 4K? Is that at 60hz or just 30hz?
In contrast, thekanester told me exactly what I needed to know, much appreciated. Looks like I'll keep waiting for suitable 4k models to come down in price.

HDMI 1.4, so only 30hz at a 4K resolution.

Nah, It's fine I'll keep it here! Try clicking the link, reading the reviews that refer to this. Or better still if you want something with a decent quality set, decent response rates across the board then you will be paying at least 3x this amount.
Even most of the big brands are flaky around actually producing spec lists with all their response rates - thus why when purchasing items such as televisions I look at reviews normally on AVForums as they are generally a good bunch with honest review but also a heap of user input and comments which is the real tell.

I've had it a week, and I really like the size. Absolutely superb for having multiple windows open (you can have 8 A4 size documents in open at 100% and see each page in full). It is enormous though - and while I don't have to move my head to look at each part of the screen, my eyes certainly get a work out.
Cannot say what it's like for gaming as I don't play them.

I'm surprised your happy with 30hz at 4K, I couldn't put up with that, mouse would be laggy across the screen. I've got the Philips 43 inch Argos deal that supports 4K at 60hz and flicking back to 30hz on that was unusable for me as a monitor, dragging Windows around was jerky. However in 4K at 60hz it's a joy to use

Mines 43 inch but this gives you idea about use as a PC
My Bush TV does 4K @ 60Hz on one of the HDMI ports btw - which is the port my laptop is connected to. I've noticed minor ghosting from the mouse cursor from time to time - but no appreciable lag. I did find the other HDMI ports on the TV rather laggy. Not exactly sure what's going on though as my mac laptop is not supposed to be able to do more than 4K @ 30Hz.

For anyone considering this for gaming, keep in mind that the maximum refresh rate this TV can handle at 4k is only 30Hz, which means it can only display up to 30FPS unless you drop the resolution down to 1440p or 1080p. That, plus the added input delay over typical monitors makes this unideal for PC gaming and completely redundant for console gaming since games consoles can barely push 1080p at the best of times, let alone 4k.
What this would be excellent for, however, is a media center PC for 4k streaming on Netflix.

That's interesting to know - thanks. I've had my eye on this for a while but i keep reading all the usual techno-babble from the picture-quality-o'philes that complain how the refresh rate is capped e.t.c.., but all i'd want is decent quality 4K output at an affordable price.
I'm not looking for home cinema quality as i don't have a home big enough for a home cinema, just good enough quality to watch films and tv shows will do me

The Seiki Horrorvision doesn't have any HDCP though so you won't be getting any 4K video content unless it's pirated or from Youtube. Netflix is still limited to 1080p on a PC but this TV would fail the handshake if they eventually add it.
This TV is <£200 because it is awful, I'm sick of seeing it under 'hot deals'.

Id never attempt to pc game on any form of Tv !!!!
enchantedcrayon
10 Apr 161#31
Yeah, it'll be a good TV for movies and stuff, but just unideal for gaming because at 30hz the picture will feel sluggish to react to controller movements. Plus, consoles can only do 1080p tops and if you can afford a PC capable of 4k you can probably reach for a better display than this.

It's 4K but with TV's you really do get what you pay for. I'd be more tempted to use the money and get a decent 1080p unit instead (even if it's a refurb).

I bought one of these last year (for about the same price) but had to send it back...
The input lag is close to a second which makes it unusable for gaming / computing and 4k is crippled @ 30Hz which makes it unpleasant for watching UHD content.
Upscaling was unpleasant too so you couldn't even call it a decent for Full HD content.
I ended up getting a native 1080p Blaupunkt for a bit less money and am infinitely happier with it!
My advice is to do the same or spend more on a better 4K set - don't expect miracles from such a cheap TV!

Doesn't have the necessary HDMI2.0 or HDCP2.2 so it's basically useless for 4K to the point it's hard to even class it as 4k.

What would this be like for using with a PS4? Looking to upgrade my 32". Finding a lot of TVs lacking More than 1 HDMI ports

PS4 is only 1080P so no 4k on this anyway, even if it was 4k this TV is junk for it. You'd be better off with a 1080P set or possibly a proper 4k set which you can get for about £250 although arguable the PS4 will look better on a native 1080P set.

^I agree with this...
The input lag on this TV is completely unworkable for gaming anyway.
A HDMI switch might be of use (under £5 on eBay) to get multiple inputs into a TV with only 1 socket... Or have a think about a decent amp.

Is there a non-4K version available?

So I ordered the TV, it arrived yesterday. My experience with it has been less than good. The picture quality is okay, not as good as the similarly priced LG TV that I have in my living room. Admittedly I don't have any 4K content to display, so I haven't been able to test this out.
The build quality seems good, the base is a nice and hefty glass panel.
As I feared, there is some visual tearing, but messing around with the settings has reduced this to the point where it is no longer noticeable.
The big problem with this TV, as many people have said, is the input lag. It makes it impossible to play games on, as there is (what I would estimate to be) a 300ms delay. This is not usable as a monitor, or as a display for a Playstation 4. These are the reasons I bought it, so I am now in the process of sending it back.
In conclusion - Don't get this TV.

I'd still recommend the 40inch Bush TV I previously mentioned. Has one socket that'll do 4K at 60Hz/HDMI 2.0. The only downside is the screen has a couple of slightly dimmer patches right at the very top of the screen. Since that's where my menus are it's not a problem for me. You also needs to turn sharpness right down .
