One of my favourite beers. Found in store at Thirsk, might be national I'm unsure. Anyway I cleared it out, 15 bottles, good times :)

We always get ours from majestic wine. Box of 24 has been priced at £24.95 for a while but it's gone back up to £31 now..

That one is definitely store specific as there's none in my local superstore.
I remember finding and buying about 20 bottles of US brewed Sam Adams in B and M last year...it was like discovering treasure.

Nothing special, quality wise. Brewed under licence over here as previously said.
Personally is either go for something cheap or from a decent local brewer. Each to their own

Got to say I love Sam Adams Octoberfest.

Agree with you on the octoberfest version as I done route 66 about 3 years back and drank it through the trip and it was on draught which was good.
I looked at getting it here a while back but I could only see 1 site that sold it and it was something like £35 a case

Used to be better when it was brewed in the US, now they brew it in the UK and charge the same price!

Anyone into this might want to try Brooklyn Lager, or my personal fave, Goose Island. Now that's the daddy.
I often like to have a Sam Adams or 2, then some Brooklyn and then the daddy Goose, going up in alcohol strength and taste as I go along. If anyone knows any similar beers/IPA's that might be better than the Goose (or the other 2), please let me know!

I'd certainly agree on Brooklyn, a great beer. As I say you will like Devil's Backbone.

Try Shipyard IPA. Bit smoother than Goose I find.

Got to agree Brooklyn Beer is a beautiful drink and the thumbs up from me, and will def try Goose Island and Sam Adams but like myself I've went of the lager many moons ago i.e Tennents as too much chemicals swirling in there, and went on to Golden Ales due to someone offering me one, and please take my word for it and have a swalla at these you will really enjoy them, all in Asda who have the best selection of Btls of Ales than all supermarkets oot there I've checked.
Badger Fursty Ferret Ale £1.64 :innocent:, Guinness Golden Ale £1.80, Greene King Abbot Ale £1.50,
Banana Bread Ale £1.80 honestly when cold it's the bees knees  not sickly
And what i do is buy a cpl of different golden ales on the shelves to drink as there so many that are not listed on their site and it will give you an idea for the next shop, FAV tho is the Badger Fursty Ferret (4 for £5) :innocent:

Agree US stuff is better, but this is still towards the top echelons. Shame they don't do all the variants like they do in US. I was in Virginia a few years back and was stopping near the Devil's Backbone brewery which I went to. Then I saw the stuff (albeit not the best one which is Vienna Lager) in Weatherspoons. Like the Sam Adams they brew it over here to the recipe. If you like the Sam Adams you will certainly like Devil's Backbone which is similar but even better so check it out.

I find DB to be a bit to gassy. Try Shipyard IPA next time you are in Spoons. I think it's superior to DB but a similar floral/citrus taste

Theres around 3000 breweries in the USA, so assuming they have several brews each that's a minimum of 10,000 different beers from there. Around the world, total guess, lets says there's 10 times that, so that,s 100,000 different beers in the world. Assuming your a qualified expert in comparing beers around the world and can say American beers are rubbish, apart from Bud, Fosters, Carling and Stella what other beers have you actually tried?

The American brewed Samuel Adams in nice (had in New York some years ago). I think in the Tesco I visited today it was about £1.50. Quite often the UK brewed versions can taste very different (for example the UK versions of Fosters ,4X and Amstel are not as good as the original country versions)

Brewed under licence by Shepherd Neame now so you may as well just go and buy the stuff they sell in Lidl as the majority of their beers taste the same, i.e.- crap.
It tasted different when it wasn't brewed under licence now it has that distinctive Neame flavour that some like but personally I think is horrible. Well done for ruining a perfectly good beer Shepherd Neame.

Thought it was just me. You're quite right, that brewery churn out beers labelled as "something special" with strange names but they're in the end the same bland rubbish. Copying beers which really are worth a place in your cupboard. Avoid!

I drank this a lot in the states and I gotta say I didn't notice a huge difference between that and the U.K. brewed one. Either way it's 100x better than Stella!! You can't really compare this to most ales we get here either it tastes very different. The nearest thing is the likes of hoegaarden and leffe

I think that poster, rather than being a jokey windup, genuinely believes a "nice Stella" is the high watermark of beer, considering their previous thread extolling the virtues of Fosters!

I ended up buying a few bottles of Octoberfest from Beers of Europe website a couple of years ago, was quite expensive but I thought it was worth it. I dont recall seeing it on the site last year, but might be worth a look later on in the year to see if they are stocking it again.
