Similar bargains do happen though. In the last week or so….

Disappointing but unsurprising really. Though I have to say, Amazon seem to be honouring less and less price errors these days, even some comparatively small ones are getting turned down, like I think about a week ago there was a £30 Toshiba 1TB HDD that turned out to be a price error (and not honoured I believe). I think their ever expanding size and dominance is causing them to (unfortunately) realise they don't have to be so accommodating to their customers as they used to be, because for every customer they lose there are probably plenty more happy to take their place. You can see it in the way they start closing accounts of customers who have had a especially large number of returns, they are getting to the stage they can actually be selective of their customer base. Not many businesses have enough customers that they can afford to be selective! Whilst I actually like Amazon, the dominance of one huge company is generally never that great for the consumer sadly...

Your wasting your time. If its a pricing error, complaining wont change them happening again in the future, if you think about it. And complaining WONT make them honor it.

Yes, complain - make it more unlikely that Amazon will have such pricing errors in the future. Make a big fuss out of it so that they improve their procedures not to ever repeat such a mistake.

Any point in complaining about this? I don't have much sympathy for Amazon, they make more than enough money and have had a lot of custom from me, they could at least price their stock properly. :neutral_face:

I mean, if no one had contacted the customer services then how likely would it have been that the Amazon automated delivery system would have just sent them out?

I got an email about an hour ago saying it was a pricing error and Amazon France have cancelled the order. Ahh well, no loss, I never expected it to be honoured.

The email they sent translated into English:

I ordered and emailed them and they have mailed back saying they will distribute at the price given once it's in stock.

Amazon quite often seem to habe multiple listings for the same product. I have no idea why, especially when the prices aren't the same.

I placed my order awaiting for stock currently no time frame available they have not said if they will cancel or honour the sale !!

Seems like that you are one of people who did not order the phone. In the past, there also preorders with misprice and amazon still honoured. So just wait to see what happened at the end.

No way on earth you will score this for that price its a £370 phone.

And add in the fact that the phone was never "in stock", it was just a preorder. This has happened before with preorders and after a few weeks, they roll out the "not able to source stock from our supplier" excuse.

Well 70,000 is 4.66x 15,000 and 4.66x £176 is £820. This phone isn't, and never has been, worth £820. On that basis, this may well not count as a "ridiculous price".

That said, I don't think that will stop Amazon France cancelling all of these on the basis that their chance of getting taken to court in France, over a mispriced phone, by customers with UK postal addresses is almost nil. That's before you even get to the small matter of Amazon actually losing this hypothetical case.

Amazon's quarterly results are due soon - it would not surprise me that they might be trying to get rid of high value stock to bump up their sales figures.

Just to point out that French consumer law, unlike the UK's "invitation to treat" law, makes the advertised price legally binding upon the seller.

The exception to this rule if if the misprice is a "prix dérisoire" (i.e. a "ridiculous price). I don't know enough about the smartphone market to know whether £176 could be interpreted as a ridiculous price for this model, but this post from France's equivalent of MoneySavingExpert gives an interesting bit of French case law on how the courts interpret the law in the consumer's favour:
