Yup, planed timber too so I didn't expect it to take that well, though two coats and it's covered lovely.

I bought some Cuprinol Ducksback fence stain a couple of years ago and the main fence is OK (which is porous) but on the top piece and the horizontal beams which are smooth hardwood the stain keeps coming off.
Would I have to buy the decking stain to paint the hardwood or is it something I'll have to live with?
Cheers, Gary.

Glad it weren't just me then. I'm sure it said wax to help repellent rain. It still washes off every time it rains there's hardly anything left on my fence useless stuff. I swear by creosote but I can't buy it no more EU regulations etc etc. But I have been told by another member of family to try out creocote which is like creosote with no lead etc :smirk:

I used the 5 year stuff less than a year ago, it's already coming off so don't think this will last longer. I did 2 coats too.

Was it a brand new picket fence? I've found this stuff to be terrible as well, Cuprinol gives much better coverage.

Read the packaging - it says it lasts "Up to 2 Years", which means it lasts less than 2 years, which means some of it at least is going to look shoddy by this time next year.
I used this stuff on the sleepers that edge my garden last summer, two coats. It's already very patchy in places.

Why?
I've just done forty odd foot of picket fencing with it, needed two coats but otherwise it applied well and there's still some left.
