These have a pressed steel blade, it rips the grass rather than cuts it, leaves an awful rough finish to the lawn.

I think Qualcast is now a Homebase/Argos own brand?

Until recently I would have said a Bosch mower will be far superior (which they were) but having suffered for a year with two of the latest ones (Ergo 37) I'd say forget Bosch now. Look similar to the older ones but absolutely hopeless; what a shame. Even the leads are too short now. Saving pennies and ruining a reputation - corporate stupidity! Bosch don't respond to calls or email either.

got one a couple of years ago excellent machine at the time there was discussions over where they were made, Europe ones were excellent, China ones well. Could be that all has moved to China now but if I was looking for one, would check if any were made in the EU anymore.
Saying that as has been said the qualcast on other threads these aren't the same as people will remember, they are just a rebranded Argos/ Homebase own brand.

I am not advertising Wilkinsons believe it or not, but they are the cheapest for flex sold by the metre, that is if you want to dismantle the mower and completely replace the flex.
Very good mower for the price, lightweight and good quality. Only nag was assembling was abit of a pain- but still good overall.

If she had cut it a bit closer to the handle then I probably would have risked one like that or even just looked at shortening the lead but it is about 6-8 feet in and thus dragged through the wet grass (and mud after the kids play football) I think I will have to use the proper connector or try and get a replacement lead - unfortunately the connector is different from the 'standard' qualcast one.

You are probably correct, it wouldn't be a good idea to have a joint of this nature positioned where it would trail through the puddles!

You aren't really supposed to use ones like that outside. Screwfix etc have waterproof connectors but they cost about 8 quid.

We got this last year in a set with a strimmer. Works great. Only one cord in set for both, which DW cut yesterday :disappointed:
Copy and paste link, I can't get it to work properly.

Just bought a mower from Homebase and was looking at the Qualcast range in the store, they seem okay, the 1600W
seems a good buy too, a wider cut 37cm...£73.
In the end I went for a wee petrol one, just under a £100.... http://www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/sovereign-150cc-push-petrol-rotary-lawn-mower---40cm-317952
As somebody said above, Argos have all of the Qualcast range, some at similar prices if Homebase is too far.

A good mower. I have one of these. Argos/Homebase have a licence to use the Qualcast name. Not made by Qualcast. Probably made in far east. Have had no probs with the reliability of mine.
