Posting this in HD9220 threads on here as I feel its really useful.....
A lot of people complain about cleaning these, and with good reason....just tackling ours now and come up with a great tip for it.
The digital HD9230 comes with a removal mesh tray, it has a better design with larger honeycombed mesh panels...however on further inspection of the HD9220 whilst not having as good a quality mesh base it is merely held in place by four metal lugs which can easily be pushed back with a screwdriver and lifts right up and out of the basket for cleaning.
As it rests in the bottom of the basket I see no problem leaving it with the tabs permanently bent back to avoid stress on the metal eventually leading to them snapping off.
The only problem I could see about doing this is if you tip your food out of the basket rather than spooning it out.
Really makes cleaning far, far easier especially with baked on grease, using oven cleaning foams...can keep your unit looking really good.
