"400hz perfect motion" is quoted on the website.... It generally runs at 60hz on most resolutions and the 400hz perfect motion is some funky Philips technology to smooth motion out I believe

Haha I know I just have very bad luck. Tbh if it wasn't for this faint line down middle I would be happy to keep it. But now I know it's there my eyes are drawn to it. You can only really see it on a black or dark image. One thing that really impressed me with this TV is the colour, it supports full RGB which my JVC doesn't and it looks great. I was watching Age of Ultron and the part where Ultron woke up and attacked Jarvis the colours just looked brilliant. I think I'm going to get my money back and get the LGUF770V. Have you any idea what the refresh rate on this Philips is?

12 May 16#269
Lol!? Can't believe you've had such bad luck with these! Mines totally fine and there's 125 reviews on the Argos website for this TV and it's averaging a full 5 stars...
What you may be suffering is Argos being very prevalent at selling returns as new TV's. I had to return my first one as it had clearly been opened and used before, all the packaging was unsealed, batteries already in remote etc. Argos swapped it no problems and the next one was definitely brand new but the fact they happily sell you returns as new items is worrying

Uploaded 2 videos of my setup, one showing a game running the other showing my settings, links to each are in the videos description, be sure to select 1080p on youtube
Just search Google for 4K / UHD free downloads - there are a few sites you can download some very good clips / movie trailers etc
I also have this TV and whilst it is not high end for sure, could not say it is as bad as you say. Mine replaced a 4 years old Panasonic 39 incher and it is much better. Upscaling from an antenna SD signal is not so good but feed it with a decent 720p or 1080p signal and it is just fine. Yes it does need some calibration and yes blacks are not ink black (for that you will need to go old school Plasma or OLED) but for the money and a bit of work with calibration the blacks are fine. When i feed mine with a PS3 streaming netflix / Now TV / Amazon Prime the PQ is very good IMHO - so as mentioned maybe you have a faulty set - have you installed the latest firmware ?

Yea I used most the ones you listed. The flickering does almost go away with the sharpness at 2 or 0 same as it does on my old tv but I think it's too low and just makes the image really blurry.. Things on this TV up close don't look too bad but in the distance everything looks awful. That upscale is a lie as well. And like I said it's not even 43inch haha. Downstairs I have a 4K Smart Sony Bravia which cost £600 and the difference between them is like DVD vs Blu Ray. The TV it was replacing is a 5yr old JVC which was £350 and the quality on JVC is better. Thing is I've basically looked at every TV below £600 and they all seem to be rubbish :/ they either have motion blur or high input lag. Deffo be taking this back. Its annoying because sometimes when picture zooms in it does actually look really good but then it zooms back out and it looks bad. I think this screen is capable of good quality but the software just sucks. Do you know anywhere I can download some 4k footage?
Foley2001_uk
11 May 16#257
Have you calibrated it properly? Maybe a faulty set? I've put nearly 45 hours into various games on it since owning it and have none of the issues you describe.... Played 5 hours of uncharted solid today and the picture I'm looking at is stunning... But like I say, after lots of calibration and tweaking.... Make sure you are in game mode etc

LuFc6686
10 May 16#254
Wow I wish I listened to others about how bad this junk is.. The quality is absolutely terrible.. Blacks are grey.. Lots of screen smudging.. Motion blur... Most of the picture seems out of focus... And the main reason I got this is because my old one flickers when playing Fallout 4, Far Cry, AC Black Flag and I don't know what else.. And this flickers a LOT worse.. And the screen isn't even 43inch it's 42.. And the upscale does absolutely nothing. If you think this TV is good you need to go to specsavers AVOID!

You have to remember it's subjective. Depending on optimal distance, what you're coming from, what you're used to, how much time you're willing to play about with the settings and what you're putting into it among other things will influence whether it's good or not. At your price point there will be a compromise. I went with a lack of smart TV (have a Xbox One and will get an Amazon box for the 4K) to get this to replace my 40 inch 10 year old Sony Bravia. Like you I was digesting everything and getting caught up in my own research. At the end of the day you just have to pull the trigger and go with something or realise that no decision is maybe the right decision and focus on something else.
Can't see the option but the TV does do contrast modes and micro dimming which might be along the lines.

Having used yours I've actually modified mine a little and played a few hours of Assasins creed last night quite happily.... I'll scribble down what it's set too now and post later.... My initial settings above are a fair bit dimmer than I ended up with last night which is good for playing in a dark room as you don't want it mega bright....
lilgossage
25 Apr 16#244
Yeah I do have the odd issue with darkness, particularly on games, but I find the deepness of the colours brilliant on these settings - Ratchet & Clank looks phenomenal. I will have a try of your settings tonight mate and will get back to you on the brightness and contrast settings
Foley2001_uk
25 Apr 16#243
Trying these settings now, dynamic contrast on maximum is too much for me, makes things far too dark that you would otherwise see detail of.... What have you got the base brightness and contrast set too? It seems to be a slightly more vibrant version of the settings I have so looks like we have a fairly similar picture going on

I use the Photo preset as the base settings then in Advanced Picture Settings I have colour enhancement as maximum, colour temp normal, contrast mode as best picture, dynamic contrast as maximum, brightness 50, video contrast 100, gamma 0, ultra resolution on, noise reduction maximum and MPEG artefact reduction on.
In my opinion, and after weeks of tinkering, this gives the optimum picture and it looks insanely good on BT Sport Ultra HD.
Let me know what you think.

You need something that has hdmi 2.0 or display port 1.2 or above. 4K content needs a way higher bandwidth than 1080p. Luckily my PC has a GTX 970 which is hdmi 2.0 compliant so can run full 4K and stream 4K videos off YouTube, Netflix etc.
I believe the Amazon Fire tv is 4K compliant via hdmi... Not sure what else is.

I'd have to agree, really enjoying the crisp picture via ps4 after some tinckering with the settings. Touch wood I've had no issues so far, I upgraded the firmware as soon as I got it. The sound whilst not too bad for the size was a bit tinny, so I added a soundbar. Really impressed for the price paid.
Not tried and 4k content yet though, bit unsure about how to run it on there? I guess via laptop/hdmi? Probably just me being a noob though!

Really good, using as a PC monitor in 4K and also to play ps4 and Xbox on, works well for everything I'm throwing at it after some calibration. Takes a while to find a nice set of settings as the default selections are awful, far too sharp and "shop demo" styled. But there's enough customisation in there to get a good picture in the end

Finally had a chance to test it this weekend and for £264.50 I paid, no complaints at all.
Working fine with Xbox One, PS4, 4K Amazon Fire TV for 4K Netflix and Amazon Prime content passing DD5.1 via ARC to AV amp.
PC was a bit more involved as my Asus AMD Radeon HD 7970 Matrix Platinum card is a bit old and predates HDMI 2.0, however Club3D do an active Display Port 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapter. I got mine from Amazon UK
This works a treat and I now have 3840x2160 at 60Hz from my PC running games like Project Cars, Alien Isolation, Mad Max, Half Life 2, Battlefield 4 at 4K.
You need the latest AMD Crimson drivers and need to set "Preferred Color Depth" to 8 bit in Radeon Additional Settings (Radeon Settings app /display tab top right) under My Digital Flat Panels for "Philips FTV".
Then in Windows Display Settings (right click on desktop) then click your 4K TV to select it from the connected displays. Then scroll down and click Advanced Display Settings, then Display adapter properties at the bottom of the page. On the properties page click the Monitor tab and select 60 Hertz from the screen refresh drop down. Then hit okay.
If you change what monitors are connected you will need to select 60Hz again, as it resets to 30Hz the first time a new monitor setup is detected but setting sticks thereafter.
At 3840x2160 at 60Hz the TV is 4:2:0 input and colour accuracy after calibrating with a i1 Display Pro is fine for games and watching movies, youtube etc on the PC, but for colour critical work I will use My Eizo 27inch.

Played a few ps4 games including the face paced rocket league and all seems fine, I played withcer 3 on PC at 4K last night and noticed a subtle flicking in the sky when moving at pace.... Could be down to me pushing my graphics card up to 4K though rather than a TV issue.... At the end of the day for £260 it's a total bargain even if there are a few niggles with picture quality. You can easily spend £1000 on a high end 4K TV so unless you need the best there is then this will do most people just fine

mine came last night, i wanted it to replace a couple of pc monitors and it does the job perfectly. I know people say it's not up to the job as a PC monitor but i can't fault it. 4K videos look great from 2ft away (4K on a 43" tv in a living room is pretty pointless) & i've tried a few games at 2560x1440 and again they look better than they did on my old 28" 1080 monitor (not a big gamer anyway).

bought the 49" version on Friday, got it all out and ready to go (its quite deep actually compared to my 5 year old 1080p led samsung).
Software is garbage, very clunky, and took about 4 attempts to update the firmware. Anyway, after that, got it working then realised there was some vertical banding/shadowing on the screen. Thought it might just be because its new but wouldnt go away. The standard of the SD channels on the set (bar the vertical banding) was awful, even the HD channels upscaled wasnt great, no matter how much i played with the settings. Even tried some 4k youtube content via my nvidia shield and it was decent but nothing that impressive. You get what you pay for i suppose.
Took it back yesterday to my local argos and they couldnt have been more helpful (woman even advised they'd sold loads of the cheap philips but actually had a few brought back faulty). Decided to opt for a samsung instead, slightly more but is a cracker.
They cant do the TV10 code in store, you need to do it online and get it fast tracked, which i did. You also cant get the 10% quidco back, that only works for in store payments. So whatever way you do it you'll get 10%. I opted for the online as it was instant and no waiting about.

Does this support local playback of H.265 files? Or will I need a separate device? The LG I have been looking at does, but tempted to go for this even if it means picking up another streaming box.
There should definitely be a dongle in the box so anyone who hasn't got one needs to check again and if you haven't already totally empty the box to check!

Yes I thought the same, I've seen 39" 4k TV's as low as £185 but they don't have the same features as this and they are 4" smaller. You might as well say I have seen a bunch of Banana's in my local store cheaper than this :-)

Cheers OP. Got this from Braehead this afternoon though the staff at Argos didn't know anything about "TV10" and I almost gave up because they weren't that helpful tbh. I sat outside the store and bought it online using code then went back in and picked it up. Great TV and def comes with "Philips TV wireless network adaptor" dongle thingy mentioned above and will ask the kids what the hell its for.......

I got this at Christmas and paid a similar price as a friend works there.
The contrast isn't fantastic, the blacks are too light. There's also quite a lot of light bleed in the top corners. The wifi stick is pretty useless for me. The only 4k file I've played was a quick demo I downloaded and it looked good. I got the tv for gaming, it's good but you do get a bit of motion blur which means it isn't great for fifa.
For the money it is an ok TV but it's not a patch on the 42" LG (non-4k) that I paid the same price for years earlier.

Ordered mine on fast track, excellent service by Argos to deliver the same day for £3.95. I think mine didn't recognise HDMI's to start with although I realised after I may have been selecting the wrong HDMI source. Anyway after I updated software to latest version all is definitely working. Picture quality is excellent and up scales normal TV very well. Sound quality is very good for built in speakers but I also like the fact that if I plug my speaker into the headphone socket I can choose to leave TV speakers running as well. I was looking for reasons not to like it and was not impressed when I saw it had shiny screen as older TV was a mat finish. I kept thinking before it was delivered maybe I should have gone for a larger screen but after using it for a couple of hours I am really pleased. Ideal size for our lounge watching from around 9-10ft away. Excellent for the price and well worth the money. If it lasts as long as my old LG its a bargain. I may also get £4.04 quidco back.
Mine also came with a Wifi dongle but I've not used it and I'm not sure what you need it for unless they plan to add smart features or maybe you can also update software via it.

Hi, I plugged in a HDMI from the TV to my graphics card (GTX 960 2GB) and just updated to the latest drivers. I set the settings to 60hz on Windows and everything is great. I have multiple Youtube/Netflix/Browser windows open and do some development in Eclipse and I've not noticed any tearing or blurring. I'm not a hardcore gamer but I've run GTA 5 at near 4K (something like 2500 x 1400 don't know specific but due to gfx memory can't really really run at 4k) with 30hz and it's stunning although not running on high specs. I've not tried running at 60hz with games but 30hz is great.

"people like me'' slightly condescending of you actually.
Its very difficult to imagine a huge TV holding a tape measure (I expect some people may still measure horizontally as well), the size of the TV was one of scores of items on the 'tick list' that need to be taken into consideration.
A TV is a major purchase.
Ive got one of these as a PC monitor and it's great. Had one since the Christmas deal when they were 299. Have no idea what 4.2.2 chroma is but I game in 4k on mine and it's great.

I tend to play safe on larger purchases to avoid buyers remorse and buy from a "No quibble" retailer.

I have had a few LG tvs, if you turn off power saving (eco mode)
and/or find the LED Local dimming option,
and/or find the setting picture settings - advanced settings and turn dynamic colour and contrast off. it shouldn't dim anymore.. (Unless theres a bug in the firmware)
Also unrelated to that if you turn off 'truemotion' also that seems to be turned on a lot of LGs by default it makes the picture a bit better

Sorry if its not faulty and you are saying it is that is lying plain and simple.
There is "confrontation" if you are being told by the manager that "the TV cant be returned due to their open box policy", this could lead to an unpleasant unnecessary discussion, over an expensive item.
Argos instore returns policy is NOT a returns policy, if the box is OPENED you cant return it, simple.
Your last comment is very funny nice one!
All this though saved by paying 3.95 and buying online with "The Consumer Contracts Regulations" cover.

Personally I still enjoy watching some films in 3D. The biggest issue with 3D was the industry itself who tried to make everything 3D for a while usually with fairly poor post conversion (there have been some films that were post converted that real effort was put in so the end product isn't too bad) which saw people having a poor experience which helped bring people to the anti 3D camp. Films actually shot in 3D by a director who embraces it and plans it (and doesn't just use it for cheap 'gags') can be much more engaging though, Avatar is the perfect example. I saw this in 2d first and I wasn't all that impressed, it's a fairly weak film and the charachters weren't that engaging but when I saw it in 3D it drew me in better and it was both more impressive visually but it was more immersive and it was easier to engage with the characters.
Even if many don't want it though it's crazy how many to makers seem to be phasing it out on the lower end. It can't be that expensive to include these days seeing as most of the hardware elements needed for 3D are still used in non-3D sets

Can't see the option but the TV does do contrast modes and micro dimming which might be along the lines.

I believe the Amazon Fire tv is 4K compliant via hdmi... Not sure what else is.
Not tried and 4k content yet though, bit unsure about how to run it on there? I guess via laptop/hdmi? Probably just me being a noob though!
I got mine from Amazon UK
http://www.club-3d.com/index.php/products/reader.en/product/displayport-12-to-hdmi-20-uhd-active-adapter.html

Upgraded my Netflix account to include 4K stuff. Not much around yet but definitely a good investment, and for not much money either.
And as for the Dongle I've no idea either as the TV doesn't have any Smart Features that utilise it??
What on earth is the wifi dongle for, what does it do when connected to a network?
Figured it out through trial and error - press the OK button to bring up the keyboard
This is frustrating.
I think ( whatever that is )
ps3/ps4 owners please
Correct
Tv10 is 10 per cent off?
HDCP 2.2?
Yes on all HDMI

The contrast isn't fantastic, the blacks are too light. There's also quite a lot of light bleed in the top corners. The wifi stick is pretty useless for me. The only 4k file I've played was a quick demo I downloaded and it looked good. I got the tv for gaming, it's good but you do get a bit of motion blur which means it isn't great for fifa.
For the money it is an ok TV but it's not a patch on the 42" LG (non-4k) that I paid the same price for years earlier.
2 USB ports and 3 HDMI sockets.
HDMI 2.0.

so some questions from the wise!
For those who have this TV and are happy with it ...
what is the latest Firmware Version?
are there any optimal picture settings - what have you fiddled to improve PQ ?
also can someone link me to any 4K / UHD video downloads that I can really see how true 4K should look.
thanks
EliTom

Mine also came with a Wifi dongle but I've not used it and I'm not sure what you need it for unless they plan to add smart features or maybe you can also update software via it.
(I've done the software update)
what firmware version have you updated to?
thanks

" in their original undamaged packaging, in a saleable condition,"
so once the box is opened, it becomes 2nd hand, used, unsaleable as 'new'. The seal is broken.
It CAN NOT be returned (if bought instore).
Sorry but you are wrong.
ordered at 16.42 - delivered at 19.30 .... on a Sunday evening

I tend to buy all of my tv's from Richer sounds as they're great and offer the 5 year warranty. But at this ridiculous price, this is hard to resist as long as standard/HD tivo and blu rays look good on it.
this one is suppose to me amazing for games with 4.4.4 etc

impressed that they offer delivery tonight - as in on a Sunday at no extra chrage
EliTom
or pay the £3.95 and get it delivered tonight!
EliTom
I bought the TV once but they accidentally charged me full price, so I just ordered another one.
I've already paid for both, can I just refuse the full price one and they'll refund me?
EliTom
also whats it like for display lag.. as i play fps games. and display blurring?..
thanks .. really appreciate your advice. cheers.
Its very difficult to imagine a huge TV holding a tape measure (I expect some people may still measure horizontally as well), the size of the TV was one of scores of items on the 'tick list' that need to be taken into consideration.
A TV is a major purchase.
With regard to you relying heavily on reviews:
http://www.theguardian.com/travel/2015/oct/24/twitter-campaign-targets-fake-tripadvisor-restaurant-reviews
http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/oct/18/amazon-sues-1000-fake-reviewers
http://fortune.com/2015/10/19/amazon-fake-reviews/
etc etc etc
It just seems an excuse for not planning your buy. Maybe people like you is why Argos have had to take this stance!?
The only reason I can think of is poor(er) sound than expected. Although I very rarely buy something that has no reviews. So you are likely to be aware of the issue.
And do they send it to you by email after correction/delivery?
Not sure about this tv or Samsung UE32J5100 32 Inch
I tend to play safe on larger purchases to avoid buyers remorse and buy from a "No quibble" retailer.
This is why I HATE buying a car.
"I still can't see why you would need to return it if it's not faulty/not as described. I can't think when I have ever done this." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9w1y-kMPNcM
How does this compare picture quality wise?
I liked the sat connector on the LG, but the dimming issue when shifting to / from dark scenes is really annoying me!
I still can't see why you would need to return it if it's not faulty/not as described. I can't think when I have ever done this. So do you have any reasons?
Shame my 8+ year old 720p Hitachi TV somebody gave me is still going strong.
All this though saved by paying 3.95 and buying online with "The Consumer Contracts Regulations" cover.
but each to their own
What comes around goes around.
Why do you need to lie anyway, you shouldn't have to?.
So for others who like me don't like lying or confrontation with the Argos branch manager:

use my t.v. as a computer monitor. Its great value if you don't want all the smart t.v. extras. Good refresh rate at 400. Great for games and movies the 4k is really a beautiful definition. I would recomment this for this purpose
Just tell them it is faulty
Cheer OP :-)
Even if many don't want it though it's crazy how many to makers seem to be phasing it out on the lower end. It can't be that expensive to include these days seeing as most of the hardware elements needed for 3D are still used in non-3D sets
thanks for posting tho!

Argos have a very misleading returns policy. Back in the 80s and 90s they were 'No quibble' now they quibble.
EliTom
If you are CERTAIN you will be happy fine.
Most folk don't fall into that category especially with a TV, and £265 maybe a lot of money to be unhappy for years to come.
just tried it !
not to convince the Missus we "need" a new TV !!
and still checking reviews
anyone know if this is one of those faux / fake / pseudo 4K panels ..... vestel panel?
EliTom
So the only reason I would be returning it is because it's not fit for purpose so the above does not matter.

I bought it. Picture is great. No Smart TV. 4K looks great (Netflix, YouTube and downloaded files) Mines suffers from the weird HDMI fault/glitch but only with a NOW TV box I hardly use.
EDIT: New March 11th firmware has fixed HDMI issue for me. Bonus
And somebody mocked me a few months ago when I said they would be down to this price.
