This is the cheapest this TV has been new from a store, it was the same price refurbished from the Pana Ebay outlet but that only came with a 12 month warranty not the 6-year this comes with. A 5-star rated TV from What Hi-Fi, it comes with Freeview HD and Freesat HD and is wifi enabled to stream Netflix and other content. You can even search the internet using voice controls if that is your bag! It has a great HD picture with deep blacks and will no doubt look even better when 4K content becomes more widely available!
I have this TV and it is stunning. Paid a lot more for it though. Worth every penny at this price. Shame that Firefox TV doesn't get much love and they should open it up to side load apps but apart from that stunning picture and features.

There's a fair few decent tv shows available.I can 100 percent recommend Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Narcos and The Man In The High Castle. There's quite a few more, I just haven't gotten around to watching them. I believe that Skys new Q box can provide 4k content, so we'll soon be overwhelmed with content I'm sure.

This tv actually has a small subwoofer. I haven't got round to buying the sound bar/sub yet because the TV actually sounds fine on its own - something which was new to me

Great TV but once the software update to support HDR comes it will be much better, if Panasonic bother releasing it... Otherwise only the 2016 TVs support HDR and that's the bit that'll show a real difference to the picture at 'normal viewing distances' against 1080.

Considering the lack of content, how do these stand up against the previous plasmas?

I think he meant content that isn't Blu-Ray or limted 4k streaming services such as netflix.
The current sky box has the ability to push 4k. 99% of HD channel are still 720p as such you will need a TV with a decent upsampler or it will look worse on the 4k TV then it would on a 1080p on the same spec.

I've also noticed the new Panny HDR sets only have a silver bezel...why!!
Much prefer having all black to match everything else

This or the Samsung UEJ6500 for £799?
ryanhicks to trojanh

the UE7000 is 799 from richer sounds at the moment as well and is better than the 6500, but I bought one of these yesterday as it's better than both!

None of the channels are broadcast in 720p.

Wondering how this compares with this cheaper but larger non-Vestel Panasonic
The 802 is much better at upscaling because of its more powerful processor. (1600Hz vs 200Hz). Also build quailty is considerably better.

You think TV is broadcast in 1080p! You might want to do some research, mate. The current set of HD channels are 720p/1080i and has been for the better part of 8 years. The BBC put out a statement recently as well that 4k isn't part of immediate plans because of the cost. This gives you an idea of the current state of live TV.

Judging the 'state of tv' on one corrupt broadcaster seems a little bit small minded to me. If Sky can make money by charging extra for 4k sports, movies etc then you can put your mortgage on it that they will pursue it.

Brilliantly. Far better than the Samsung equivalents. The motion processing and upscaling abilities are why I bought this tele, you can't get better without dropping another few hundred.

You mean BT right, because currently Sky have no 4K channels in the UK or the USA. So no I won't put my mortgage on it, but you can put yours though.
Funny you mention Sky, as they have no date for 4K channels either, they can't even guarantee that it will be this year.

No, I meant Sky mate.
Sky are marketing the new Silver Q box as 'UHD ready'.

Btw OP this TV will get a HDMI 2.0a and HDR update in the summer

No they are not broadcast in 1080p. Every single HD channel is broadcast in 1080i which your TV deinterlaces into 1080p. So my knowledge is good thanks

Actually it isn't, Sky have stated a large portion of their HD channels is 720p, hence why I used it. (Shock Factor  ) I am well aware that now 1080i/50 is the broadcasting standard.

I am quite the pessimist  No sample content was at CES.
My dad had been watching this TV for a few weeks now, it was £999 and a little out of his budget, then it suddenly dropped to £799 so snapped one up. I must admit it is a fantastic tv, picture quality is great and the Smart TV is very fluid.

Why would you want to - their warranty is a year shorter. And the sixth year is rather more likely to cause a claim than the fifth.

The reason is if the screen suffers from DSE or light bleed you can return easy with JL .
