Who cares if this has been posted a few times - it's worth posting again.
Two adults, with extra legroom seats and 2 x 20kg bags return to Orlando for £568 is an absolute bargain surely? Virgin would be charging you at least £1,500 return for premium economy, probably nearer £2,000 depending on when you go. Ok, cut out the extra legroom seats and baggage and it's down to £378 for two people return! Virgin would still be expecting you to be paying £1,000 return between you.
Crazy prices and who cares if it's during term time - either take the kids out and take the 'hit' if they fine you, or dump your little luvvies on the grandparents (or anybody really) and go for a break as a couple!

Actually. Kids who go to private school can take as much time out as they want and they don't have to ask permission.
As for the fines.... Not all LA's fine, ours doesn't, we've had 6 days last year for a holiday and 3 days this year, authorised, as my kids attendance is good but they are about to choose options for their GCSE's so we won't do it anymore til they leave school. Aside from which, its cheaper to pay the fine than pay full price in the other holidays anyway.

The reason these deals are so cheap is because most schools will not give time off in May due to tests and exams so the planes are half empty. I am counting the days til my kids leave school so I can go to Florida every year for this kind of money!! Park tickets will cost more than flights!!

Flew on it to Cancun last year and it was great when the plane flew through a storm at about 3am. You could see the turbulence bending the wings back and forth and the fuselage suffered very little disturbance. Of course they are gonna market it as having a new fleet of multi-million pound planes.

Flights for 2 adults flying from Glasgow on 21st June for 7 nights £769 each, but 7 nights at the Disney Caribbean Beach Resort is only £644 each which includes the flights, baggage and car hire - some crazy pricing going on when it is cheaper to book a 4 star Disney Resort hotel than the flight alone.

Agree look on http://www.thedibb.co.uk. Its a great place to find out all the info you need. I booked a cheap car rental using a suggestion made on there, got a US sat nav £20 from ebay to avoid the $60 rental charge. No sunpass fees as easy drive around these. Used the car everyday and drove all around Orlando, space center etc Filled up with cheaper fuel on I- drive, tank still reading full at MCO. Paid for car hire in advance, got the sell at airport refused everything, no problem and nothing more to pay except fuel costs. I was traveling as woman on my own with kids.

Either way, neither of us know the truth so Id stay away from the area if pregnant
I'd avoid Dollar and use Alamo as the Dollar fleet is tired and old. In addition Alamo cap the SunPass charges at a lower rate per rental, allow you to enter details online here, go straight to the garage, pick your car, etc.
Google the 'Dibb' and vyou'll find a community who can answer all the Florida questions you may have.

Car hire companies in States, Orlando in particular, prey on the inexperience of the tourist, more so the UK tourist with constant up sell at the hire desk. My first tip is to say no to everything. If you need a Sat Nav call into the nearest Walmart or Big K and buy one outright for 50 dollars. This coupled with an hours wait at the car hire desk is often a nightmare. Great tip go on Dollar Rent a Car's US site and sign up to the Dollar Express service. Was a good guide on US Rentacar as to how to fill in boxes in UK. Then when you book a car use a supplier who let's you pick Dollar and ask them to contact Dollar and either put it on your Express account, or email Dollar and ask them to add to your Express account yourself after booking. Then when you get to the airport, bypass the desk entirely and go straight to the garage where Dollar allow you to pick your own car in the class and drive straight off. No queuing, no up sell, saves you an hour at Orlando. Done it many times at different airports in US and it is fantastic.

We go on 4 foreign holidays a year, have done for years and never book seats. A couple of times we've had 1 parent on their own (me and the wife fighting for that seat) but never have kids been sat without a parent. Not saying cannot happen but unlikely. I have also travelled with grandparents on many occasions and again always been together. To me, booking seats at cost is a scam.

18 Apr 16#76
I know you're likely not to want to make a big deal of it (in true Brit fashion!) but in your position, I'd certainly be letting the rental company know of your dissatisfaction. At worst, you get nothing back but the staff get told to make sure customers are aware of this kind of thing, and at best, you get some money back.

Slightly off on a tangent, if anyone is taking advantage of these prices and going to the Sunshine State and hiring a car, there's a lot of toll roads in Florida and you can end up on them quite easily, unintentionally?!
But, as the lady at the car rental desk was very quick to point out, we weren't to worry about it as all their cars had the ability to drive through the "SunPass"/Pass lanes and your credit card would be billed automatically when your car hire ended.
No more grovelling for the right change or waiting to pay, you could just carry on down the highway to wherever it was you were heading in the first place.
Great! fantastic! Would make life so much easier!
Yes it did make life easier, but what she failed to point out at the time she was spouting the virtues of this system was the $4 a day service charge that accompanied it!!!
I know it's not going to break the bank, you're on holiday and there's so much to see and do you just want to get on with it.
But on two of the days I used this facility, the toll charge was 75 cents!!
$1.50 worth of toll charges cost me $8.40!!
We used toll roads 4 days the last time we were there, the most expensive day toll wise was $3.25!
Ok, it's supposedly capped at $20 service charge per rental period but I've already paid to be on these roads, don't see why I've got to pay again? :smirk:

I'm off to Florida a week on Friday, albeit with Virgin. Booked a week ago for £438 return. It's direct from Gatwick but returning indirect to Heathrow. I did check Thomson before booking but with luggage the saving was only £100.
Somebody mentioned above that when you factor in car hire, theme parks etc, it gets expensive but I disagree. 2-3* motels/hotels can be picked up for around £20 per night, there are plenty of cheap eats over there e.g. Steak n Shake and car hire starts at a little over £100 for a week (and Auto Europe are giving free windscreen and undercarriage cover at the moment too).
Florida has so much more to offer than theme parks. Even with a flight to Sanford, you don't have to stay in the area. An hour and bit to the west is Tampa and Clearwater. 3-4 hours south is Miami and even further south are the Keys.
Book a car and a flight and do the rest when you get there.

Phila4 to imran999
17 Apr 161#50
A family with kids, probably yes, but you run a big risk. I've seen it before on busy flights where a family has been split up - usually they will sit a kid with one parent next to them, or even behind or in front of them. I think most airlines will do their best to sit families together, but to expect 3, 4, 5 or 6 seats together, when you haven't pre-booked them or checked in early, is asking a lot. The older the kids, the more likely they will be separated from parents.
It's simply a risk - you either pay to be sure, or don't and risk being split up across the plane.

Actually the quickest is 9hrs 5mins from Manchester or Newcastle, 9hrs 10mins from Birmingham and 9hrs 15mins from Gatwick airport. Thomson do not fly to Orlando from any other UK airports.
So my 9hrs 15mins is essentially bang on, whereas your 7hrs+ is waaaaay out. Unless you have your own private Concorde, or expect to jump out 100 miles or so short of New York and plan to swim the rest of the way?

It's about 9hrs 15mins actually, but the upside of flying into Sanford is the quick clearance at immigration compared to Orlando International. The downside being you're about 45 minutes drive further away from Kissimmee, so when all is said and done horses for courses really. Given the choice, I'd go to Sanford though as I like to get out and on the road quickly, but we always fly Virgin and they go to OI, which is a pain IMHO.

A lot of this dreamliner vs other aircraft stuff depends on the operator. BA have crammed in a ridiculous amount of seats into economy and the entertainment boxes restricted leg room in a lot of seats. Thomson seem to have done a better job with their configuration. The Emirates a380 experience is fantastic, as is the Japan airlines version of the same plane.
elitom to KitKatFox

I would suggest people use sites such as seatguru to check seating plans
yes dreamliners can be nice when they use 9 seats across seating plan like BA but the likes of Qatar Airways use also a nine seat configyation but have ICE boxes under each middle seat severely restriction legroom
I see Thomson also use a nine seat config but with only 31 inch pitch

Upgrade to Premium Club for a bigger luggage allowance and seats with a bigger recline and a 38-inch pitch. You’ll also get priority check in and boarding, security fast track and UK airport lounge access, plus luxury extras like a Rituals cosmetics kit, a bigger TV screen, and a complimentary drink before you fly. And if you’re on a night flight, we’ll supply a duvet and pillow, too.
However you do get drinks for free in economy now too, but i find that because premium only has 50 seats, if you don't want Rod & Todd kicking your seat and screaming & shouting for a 7 hour + flight, premiums money well spent!

I must have imagined flying direct from Glasgow with THOMSON then.
You need to check your info...
Heard horror stories from other airlines who split passengers up (even if they are kids)
It's simply a risk - you either pay to be sure, or don't and risk being split up across the plane.
So my 9hrs 15mins is essentially bang on, whereas your 7hrs+ is waaaaay out. Unless you have your own private Concorde, or expect to jump out 100 miles or so short of New York and plan to swim the rest of the way?
Jeez, some people......................................
All of a sudden not quite the cheap holiday you may have thought.
Looking at theme park tickets is £453+ per person
It varies from UK airport to airport, which is why i said 7hrs +.
Jeez some people!
Crazy prices and who cares if it's during term time - either take the kids out and take the 'hit' if they fine you, or dump your little luvvies on the grandparents (or anybody really) and go for a break as a couple!
yes dreamliners can be nice when they use 9 seats across seating plan like BA but the likes of Qatar Airways use also a nine seat configyation but have ICE boxes under each middle seat severely restriction legroom
I see Thomson also use a nine seat config but with only 31 inch pitch

yet book a year in advance and pay out the nose
Upgrade to Premium Club for a bigger luggage allowance and seats with a bigger recline and a 38-inch pitch. You’ll also get priority check in and boarding, security fast track and UK airport lounge access, plus luxury extras like a Rituals cosmetics kit, a bigger TV screen, and a complimentary drink before you fly. And if you’re on a night flight, we’ll supply a duvet and pillow, too.
However you do get drinks for free in economy now too, but i find that because premium only has 50 seats, if you don't want Rod & Todd kicking your seat and screaming & shouting for a 7 hour + flight, premiums money well spent!

...and this is how correct price shoud be stated - not putting as many children possible to make the price lower
1 adult and 4 children from £130.60 each
Can't imagine that will help many(any?) but thought I'd mention it while I was here anyway
Anything you can do.. I can do better ;-)
The challenge is on.. who can find the first £99 Dreamliner flight to Orlando, before
someone books them all and resells them at a *not so* reputable travel agency!
