Cheap and cheerful , unlocking codes are from £1.49 on ebay
Also available to buy instore, but you will have to buy topup there, Quidco provides 3% cashback for purchase instore though (if you registered your card with them and activated their promotion).
To buy without a mandatory top-up:
There is a 'Keep Existing SIM' option at the bottom of the 'Bundles' page, which allows you to purchase a PAYG phone without a top-up. Unfortunately Vodafone now hides this button a few seconds after the page has loaded. You have to be quick to click the button, if you miss it simply hit F5 or the 'Refresh' button on your browser to reload the 'Bundles' page and try again.

Another way to "catch" the keep existing sim button is to use Firefox, click "View - Page Style - No Style" and the text page appears. The button doesn't disappear. Ctrl-F to search for "Keep" and job done. I'm sure other browsers may have this feature, but I have checked this in Firefox on a Mac and it works.
Was it click and collect? If so I eventually managed to get mine by starting a new order on the website every day so that I could then check when the store had it in stock.

I ordered on the 18th of June and was immediately sent an email confirming the order. I checked order tracking where it has been on the 'We've received your order.' stage one status ever since. There was no sign that it was progressing so I contacted live chat who told me that the phone was out of stock. After I informed them that it was still available on their website, they told me to call their customer service. When I did this, I was told that I need to use live chat!!! They are just passing the buck and nobody knows the situation with my order. I do want to get this phone but I don' dare place a new order in case the old order turns up. I'm stuck.

Have unlocked phone using ebay code obtained from this thread and updated to Marshmallow. Thanks to all contributors.

Battery life is very impressive after the 6.0 Update.
I was streaming video over WiFi for about 3 hours yesterday then as you can see overnight whilst not using it it lost next to nothing. Had music running for an hour and gave it a little top-up whilst I transferred files this morning but it's still lasted really well considering the pretty heavy usage. With more moderate use I can easily see this lasting two full days or more.

Truly awful customer service - wouldn't recommend.
I ordered one asking it to be delivered to Norwich Castle Mall Vodafone store. I got an email saying that it is ready for customer collection. I went to the store, it is not there. I called the customer service to try and get it to be delivered to the my work place, they told me that I have to call them up again on Sunday 8am. I asked the ordered to be cancelled, they told me that I would get my cancellation confirmation in 20 minutes, it has never arrived.
Lesson learnt, I would never deal with Vodafone people again.

My experience with an Integral 128gb on this mobile on 5.0.2 has been most unpleasant and unreliable.
Attempted again after Marshmallow using 128gb as portable storage has been much better although the LOST.DIR regularly fills up with stuff which isn't good.

Yesterday I was told on the phone by Vodafone that I could cancel the order and get a refund.
Now Vodafone customer service are saying they have to get the handset back from the shop into the warehouse before they can give a refund. That takes 14 days apparently.
They also said a supervisor would call me. That hasn't happened.
**Update the warehouse didn't send it to the store apparently??**
Now I have been told that I have to provide them with proof of paying!!! Even though I paid online. They claim it takes them 3 weeks to go through their accounts to trace a payment.
Have spent ages on the phone and computer yesterday and today. To Vodafone today - twice . Last night to Vodafone. Last night also online chat for ages. Today online chat. Today phoned my credit card company.
I am not happy.

I had no issues at Brent Cross picking two up today, I didn't even need my confirmation number, just my name, a quick photocopy of my drivers licence and I was away in less than 5 minutes.
ok I ordered online for collection from my local store. As per the email from Vodafone, I waited more than an hour then got together credit card, passport, utility bill and cycled down to collect my new phone.
I arrived at about 5pm and left at about 6pm after lots of hassle WITHOUT my phone and without a refund.
It's a long story. Nothing wrong with the staff in the store they were fine.
I made an interesting discovery though, the online and shops are separate somehow. Which seemed to cause problems in trying to resolve the matter in store. Also they queried my not paying the extra £10 for a sim/time and seemed to blame that for the problems??!!
Anyway they, unless I have got this wrong, could not phone the online sales lot. They could only phone the retail lot.
All very tiresome.
Also, they seemed to think at one point that I had missed 'Mr' off of name when I ordered which meant they couldn't get into the system.
I phoned online orders (South Africa) who were very pleasant and told me that I must wait 24 hours for the whole thing to 'probably' go through ('unless there are any problems') so that I can collect in store.
Why on earth does it take Vodafone 24 hours to process an order?
Anyway am seriously unhappy. I spent so much time trying to resolve this.
Goodness only knows if I shall receive a phone. Watch this space.

Heat from me. I had a simple collection it seems - walked in shop with email confirmation, they took that, a scan of my driving licence, and I walked out 5 minutes later with phone in hand. No credit card scans, account queries or other questions (other than 'how much??'!) A quick unlock code from the auction site, a few system updates and I'm up and running with a Marshmallow android phone that is pretty quick for what it is! Normally ok... If you pop into a store (of whoever your provider is) they'll normally have a cutter and do it there and then for your new sim.
Alternatively you could buy a cutter yourself and do at home. They are pretty cheap on amazon / eBay i think.
nigelbutler to Weenie Beenie
25 Apr 16#81
Yeah buy a cutter from Ebay... its a bit like a stapler, you put the sim in and squeeze it down and the newly cut sim pops out the bottom!

"keep sim" is there at the bottom. you have about 1 second to click on it. Its between the £30 big bundle and the footer menu. Scroll down to the bottom then hit F5. Position the mouse just right & click ASAP when it appears after refreshing. When it works the screen will refresh itself and go to the top of the page and the "go to basket" will be coloured in. 24 Apr 16#46
Agreed.
For future reference, any phone that is sold directly by a network (such as this Vodafone deal), or any phone that is locked to a network will never be a dual-SIM model. UK networks have a 1 SIM per phone policy on all handsets sold or branded by themselves.
However, phones that are sold as SIM Free by other retailers (such as Amazon.co.uk) do sometimes sell dual-SIM phones, if they do it will always state 'Dual-SIM' in the item title or description.

Am i right in saying this phone has no flash for the camera? For some reason Vodafone have listed it as having flash in the specs.

Really good buy and I wanted a cheap SMART phone for daughter's birthday. Was going for the Vodafone First or Speed but this looks better.
Got nowhere with Firefox as button disappeared in microseconds, but used the rarely touched Edge, followed the F5 refresh instructions and the 'Keep SIM' button stayed for long enough to click first time. Thanks OP

Managed to find the button. Was appearing for about a second. After many tries was successful and got one ordered.

condracky was asking about the 1st Gen Moto G, not Moto E.
Both the Moto E 2nd Gen, and Moto G 1st Gen are 8GB, although there is a 16GB Moto G variant, also the 4G version of the Moto G 1st Gen (XT1039) includes a Micro SD slot.
I would go for the 4G version of the Moto G 1st Gen (XT1039) over the Moto E 2nd Gen (XT1524) mainly because of the much nicer screen, and inclusion of a flash for the camera (really needed as the cameras on both are absolutely awful). I would pick the Moto E 2nd Gen (XT1524) over the original Moto G 1st Gen (XT1032) as that one doesn't feature a Micro SD slot.

Just ordered one, had to try hitting a refresh quite a few times before I managed to catch the 'keep existing sim' icon. Hopefully the unlocking codes will work without too much trouble..
basically much better - closer to original Moto G but less pixel density but better battery - no flash on camera and no compass gyroscope for map rotation navigation

Excellent phone... compact, great battery, marshmallow - amazing for 39 quid and cheap unlock
Most people will be pretty happy with this!
Reasonable people!
Cheapest way to get marshmallow currently
Vodafone clearing for the next Moto E 3rd gen and Moto G 4th gen - both with bigger screens 5 inch for new E and 5.5 for new G ... probably even more expensive, they just keep getting pricier year after year

If it's the second generation then it's a really good phone. I paid £89 for mine way back when it came out and have been delighted with it. Does the job fuss free.

There is a link at the bottom of the page for "keep existing sim" which auto hides on the bundles page.(2nd page). I noticed it disappear, I then took it back a page reselected the phone, clicked "choose phone", it then jumped to the bundles page, I quickly selected "keep existing sim". I placed my order 15mins ago, no issues! Received my confirmation for my order. Thanks for posting deal!

Alternatively you can stay on the 'bundles' page and keep hitting F5 to refresh the page. You have to be quick to click the "Keep Existing SIM" button though, as it quickly hides itself again.

the option without topup is still there- it is just hidden now (read comments how to avoid topup when buying online from Voda, please)

you can choose "keep existing sim" option without topup as well however it is a bit tricky to make that button to appear on their webpage (see comments/instructions on my other vodafone deals e.g. for Smart Ultra 6 etc.)

Not sure what you are looking at. It's clearly the 2nd Gen Moto E.
Opening post

Stick the new official stock moto marshmallow 6 on it and it flies like the wind for forty quid!

Regards, Martyn.
As I can't get the hang of using the phone. OAP.
Cheers
Rich
Attempted again after Marshmallow using 128gb as portable storage has been much better although the LOST.DIR regularly fills up with stuff which isn't good.
Was hoping for tinkerers feedback.
Nevertheless, thanks for checking.
Enter code whem prompted
Thanks!
I got an ebay code for both from here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151191795052. The codes came through in under 10 minutes form making the purchase!
ok I ordered online for collection from my local store.
Watch this space.
it'll need some gentle filing, this will make sure it doesnt get stuck and pops in and out the phone nicely

Just realised though, I still only have a full size SIM, once I get it unlocked do EE do an easy swap to a MicroSIM?
Alternatively you could buy a cutter yourself and do at home. They are pretty cheap on amazon / eBay i think.
I've done it with mine and a few mates sims, only thing is it'll probably have rough edges but gently file the sides with a nail file and it'll work fine

after 2 small updates I got the Marshmallow one... after a bit of tweaking it runs ok now... reinstallings apps takes a while and I did a factory reset which i usually do with new phones
The original Moto G is still better and you can pick those up £40 used... but they arent getting MMallow
but do have flash, compass gyroscope & nicer screen... battery better on Moto E 2nd gen though
Music got stuck like it was doing rap
and it rebooted by itself. Hasn't happened since.
Put in a 128GB Integral and testing it.
This didn't work on Android 5.0.2
Just had an update to marshmallow android this week. May just be because I'm in Austria this week though. I don't know if I would have got it in the UK.
Bit tricky, but worth it
a full charge, i was getting like 2 days use out of it. crazy
Also from the main website the bit at the bottom where you tick already have sim as gone to but because i already had the phone in the basket i got it for the £39.
I was asking a question no need to sarcastic. Some people need to get a life rather than trolling forums trying to get a cheap laugh.
Does anyone know if this is Daul Sim. I have a personal number and a work number so like to have them all on one phone rather than carting 2 phones around.
