Unless the price is really good, or you desperately need/want whatever the thing you're looking at is ASAP, it's sensible to look at pricing trends and see if the price is likely to go down quickly, or has recently been lower and that lower price is likely to return soon.

This doesn't just apply to phones, it applies to lots of products. Good examples which are popular on HUKD are games and SSDs, which have fluctuating prices and tend not to be "need" purchases. Most people would be better off waiting for a good value price, rather than just pretending they're buying in a vacuum and paying the lowest price they can find at the moment they're looking.

High end LG phones fall in price quickly; this is already cheaper than its rivals, but there's nothing to suggest its price won't continue to fall rapidly, just as the prices of its predecessors have. There's nothing special about this phone which would keep its price high, as evidenced by the fact it's already available for sub-£400.

Yup, plus £10 top up. I couldn't get them to drop that off. Selling the G5 as I prefer the S7 overall, but it's a cracking phone, the wide angle lens is just great.

Right so I finally picked one of these up from EE for £399, I also own the S7 Edge. The G5 is a different beast for sure, but by no means a 'huge disappointment'. 1) the stills camera is better, 2) the wide angle lens is not only cool, but genuinely useful 3) it's faster than the S7/E. Battery isn't as good as the S7E but still acceptable, and display isn't as beautiful, but this is a great phone. A lot of the reviewers seem to have used it for about three hours and chucked it to one side. I'm seriously considering selling my S7E and keeeping it, mainly because of the camera(s)!

i got an lg g4 and love it. way better than the s2 and s4 i had before. would have def had this at this price. will never go back to Samsung again!!

So I went into 2 different Vodadone stores and both said they don't have pay as you go stock and they are not expecting any for at least 4 months? Only contract stock is available apparently...I was so upset, had my card out ready to pay :'(

Went to 5 Vodafone stores trying to get one on Saturday. 3 had them in stock but wouldn't let me have one on PAYG. Said they were "not allowed" to sell then on PAYG yet. Even when i protested they has a sign advertising £400 PAYG.

Not sure is this is actual policy or just store staff after their commission for selling contracts.

Good price, beats the hell out the S7 but damn this is an ugly phone, such a pity we can't get the V10 in the UK, much better looking phone... Dat camera bump tho...

From what I've read there's good reason to wait. Within a few months LG will have refined the build quality and prices will have dropped. Disappointing that a flagship has such a poor finish though.

The thing I like most about LG is that they're one of the only companies to make high spec phones with removable batteries. If phones like the S7 Edge or HTC 10 had replaceable batteries though I don't think LG would stand much chance. If the HTC One M7 had a replaceable battery I think I'd still be using it now...

I was offered this exact deal £400 + £10 SIM (PAYG) instore at the Vodaphone shop on Northumberland st, Newcastle upon Tyne on 11April. The phone is locked to Vodaphone but they will unlock it for £19.99. This is just the phone, not including a camera module. Doesn't seem to be available online. The only stock they had instore that day was 1off Silver.

Bought this on pre-order contract. Its going back. Personally I found the finish is poor for a 'flagship' device, and I begrudge paying £40+ a month for a device that is now £410 payg.
At this price point it starts becoming better value for money, but at over £1000 (over 24 months) it seemed awfully expensive given the slating its had in the press (Ars Technica in particular).

If it drops to £350 or so I'd certainly consider buying it PAYG, and sticking with my £15/month SIMO contract.

On the plus side the screen is excellent, fingerprint scanner worked well ever time, and it was very fast :smiley:

Bought this for my wife. So far impressed and not. The wide angle camera is why will not be returned I think. Otherwise decent build and os. Was expecting better camera though. I dislike the smudging of details from post processing on Auto. Hope they address this. Manual is way better but try capturing the moment with a month old on manual...
I don't care about the price tbh. With all the extras and cashback will be arround 300£ which seems decent to spend across a 24 months.
If we'd not be restricted to Android because of some newborn apps would get and Iphone 6 not 6s instead at same prices and better quality camera.

Whilst this may well be a good price at this very moment, there's nothing to suggest that the G5 prices won't fall just as quickly as previous LG Gx phones. I'm not going to vote cold as, right now, this is a decent price with no need to faff about with an O2 Refresh plan. However, unless you're desperate to have an LG G5 ASAP, you're definitely better off waiting for the almost inevitable fairly quick and steep price drops.

I understand that most things depreciate over time, but right now and a price of £410 doesn't seem the best "value for time" in the G5's lifespan.

lg prices fall faster than any other manufacturer....
whether they should keep prices low from the day they release or maintain the prices.....given their manufacturing and reliability of the products no way their flagships worth half a grand
