Ive had LG G2,G3 and G4....for me the G2 was still the best. Found the G3 too laggy it was annoying and the G4 took 2nd place.
I've just got my first Galaxy in the S7 Edge and it has impressed me a lot. The G5 didn't tempt me this time.
All good phones but my experience with the G3 and the lag after having 2 handsets made me change to the G4 earlier than expected.

I'd say it's good. Obviously rooting the phone gives you a lot more control of what apps are running all the time and that makes a huge difference. Don't forget, you can buy a second battery for buttons from eBay if you're a power user.

i have the g3 - it was laggy but since flashing to marshmallow 6 - its absolutely rapid, 2 years on and the battery life is as good as any samsung galzxy i have used, out does my work phone. if i dont use it on games i charge it once every 3 days - worth this money as long as you flash it to marshmallow

Probably because they further improved runtime ART in Marshmallow, runtime Dalvik default for KitKat caused most of the lag issues on the G3, Lollipop and Marshmallow both use ART by default.
Its still the cracking issue round the mic and ir blaster that put me off this phone.

Best value smartphone out there, the g3, so impressed, so much better than those overpriced brands eg. Samsung, and wipes the floor with other 'budget' smartphones such as the OnePlus series, etc....one of the best screens on the market, still, fast, a good weight, imo better than the g4 for the money.
seriously, get. this. phone.

Looking to upgrade my brother-in-law's phone as he's on an ancient Galaxy S2 or something. Two very deals have popped up today in the Z3 Compact and now the G3. Apart from the G3 having a bigger screen what differences are there and which is better overall? I'm impartial to brand so bias free advice would be much appreciated

Both have the same processor and expandable storage. G3's big wins are screen resolution, optical image stabilisation, and removable battery. Both have 2MP front-facing cameras capable of 1080p video recording.

You can flash the official non rooted version which will be the one from lg and all that should work fine - links are in that section on the forum also

I have this phone and it's brilliant. Battery life is decent - just not as good as my wife's G2 which is astounding. It's a big handset but manages to pack that huge screen into a smaller package than other handsets with a 5.5 inch screen.
Pros:
- Great screen
- Quick (lag has never been an issue for me)
- Good camera
- Expandable storage
- Removable battery
- Good audio
Cons:
- It may be too big for some people's liking (but see comment above)
- Plastic casing but build quality seems pretty good nonetheless. I have mine in an i-Blason case and screen protector which work pretty well; the Quick Circle cases seem like a gimmick but are fun.
- Some might find the rear-mounted power and volume buttons fiddly.
I went to this from a Samsung Galaxy S6 as I wanted expandable storage and have no regrets. At £149 it's a steal and you won't get a new handset approaching this quality at this price elsewhere just now.

A word of warning, although no one else will probably be as stupid as me. The last few phones I have owned with Gorilla glass haven't really needed screen protectors over the two years I had them, so when I bought the G3 I didn't bother either, especially since I bought the Quick circle case for it.
Within a couple of days some quite solid dust had got under the Quick circle case and rubbed when the case had moved slightly, leaving a circle of scratch marks. Can't be seen when using the phone, so hasn't bothered me, but might hurt resale. :disappointed:

Camera is much better.Other half bought this phone when our little one arrived. I got the Moto G. The ones from the Moto g are just snaps - better than nothing, but not good quality. G3 has produced some real keepers that will go in the album. Still nowhere near something like a Sony Rx100 camera or a DSLR, but the bonus is that you will always have it with you. I'm toying with getting rid of my moto g just for the camera on this. That said the laser focus/flash absolutely blinds everyone if its dark and you are using flash.

Worst phone I have bought. I have replaced the handset and battery twice during my contract. Initial speeds soon drop off and it is an incredibly slow phone after a while.
dragonline77
25 Apr 16#87
it didn't, I had to repair the screen and there's multiple cracks and dents. the UI is ****, not as bad as Samsung but it's still rubbish, slow as hell and it looks ugly as hell. of course most of these problems go away when you root and install your own ROM, but your average user won't do that
brookysm
25 Apr 16#88
And now the phone is officially running on Marshmallow via an update so it's different again. You don't have to even install a ROM onto it if you don't like it, just use a different launcher from the play store.
I've had my G3 2 years and have had no reliability issues with it, my missus has used it while I switched to a Z2 but I've gone back to it to try it on Marshmallow and it's been fantastic so far.
