Excellent value for money, considering the specs of this phone.
It is 16 GB model.
How to avoid the topup and keep your existing sim is described in the posts.
Black and Gold colors available.

To enable the 'keep existing sim' option on the bundles page using Chrome, navigate to the page leaving javascript enabled, then when you reach the page, disable javascript in the Chrome settings (settings/advanced settings/content) then refresh the page. The keep existing sim option will be at the bottom.

Personally, I'd prefer to buy from Amazon Warehouse. £153 for 'Used - Very Good' where the only imperfections are on the packaging. The handset will come unlocked, will a 12 month warranty from Amazon.

still one of the best phones ever, even being a 2014 model.
does this have all the annoying vodafone software?
also, is it locked to vodabone?

As far as I'm aware, all Vodafone Phones at the Vodafone Shops are LOCKED!, so .....

And yes, I'm assuming all the mandatory bloatware per Vendor will be present too?.

A question - is the G4 worth the upgrade from a G3? If so, in what respects?

Thanks

Ive had LG G2,G3 and G4....for me the G2 was still the best. Found the G3 too laggy it was annoying and the G4 took 2nd place.

I've just got my first Galaxy in the S7 Edge and it has impressed me a lot. The G5 didn't tempt me this time.

All good phones but my experience with the G3 and the lag after having 2 handsets made me change to the G4 earlier than expected.
cutthroat_jake
24 Apr 16 #16
I'd say it's good. Obviously rooting the phone gives you a lot more control of what apps are running all the time and that makes a huge difference. Don't forget, you can buy a second battery for buttons from eBay if you're a power user.

i have the g3 - it was laggy but since flashing to marshmallow 6 - its absolutely rapid, 2 years on and the battery life is as good as any samsung galzxy i have used, out does my work phone. if i dont use it on games i charge it once every 3 days - worth this money as long as you flash it to marshmallow
4Real2016 to The-Stranger
24 Apr 16 1 #24
Probably because they further improved runtime ART in Marshmallow, runtime Dalvik default for KitKat caused most of the lag issues on the G3, Lollipop and Marshmallow both use ART by default.

Its still the cracking issue round the mic and ir blaster that put me off this phone.

Best value smartphone out there, the g3, so impressed, so much better than those overpriced brands eg. Samsung, and wipes the floor with other 'budget' smartphones such as the OnePlus series, etc....one of the best screens on the market, still, fast, a good weight, imo better than the g4 for the money.

seriously, get. this. phone.

Looking to upgrade my brother-in-law's phone as he's on an ancient Galaxy S2 or something. Two very deals have popped up today in the Z3 Compact and now the G3. Apart from the G3 having a bigger screen what differences are there and which is better overall? I'm impartial to brand so bias free advice would be much appreciated
emJayO to SFP_NooDLe
24 Apr 16 1 #25
Both have the same processor and expandable storage. G3's big wins are screen resolution, optical image stabilisation, and removable battery. Both have 2MP front-facing cameras capable of 1080p video recording.
Take a look here for a more comprehensive comparison.

i went on xda forum and its in the LG G3 section - only issue i have - i flashed a rooted version and when i put mobile data on it doesnt show in the top icons like 4g. You can flash the official non rooted version which will be the one from lg and all that should work fine - links are in that section on the forum also

24 Apr 16 1 #33
Yeah the option isn't there on the page and you can't checkout without selecting at least the £10 bundle. Nor can you remove the bundle once you get to the basket. Looks like £159 to me.

Yup Marshmallow on the G3 has reinvigorated the handset, gone back to using mine again now because of it..

Anyone getting one may have to update via a PC as the over the air update is very hit and miss (it was also 1.2gb in size too!)

The marshmallow update may not be readily available yet, certainly wasnt on my 32gb version so did it this way super easy mm update and it does like the last poster said reinvigorates the handset.

Super hot from me, best handset bar none at this price.

I have this phone and it's brilliant. Battery life is decent - just not as good as my wife's G2 which is astounding. It's a big handset but manages to pack that huge screen into a smaller package than other handsets with a 5.5 inch screen.

Pros:
- Great screen
- Quick (lag has never been an issue for me)
- Good camera
- Expandable storage
- Removable battery
- Good audio

Cons:
- It may be too big for some people's liking (but see comment above)
- Plastic casing but build quality seems pretty good nonetheless. I have mine in an i-Blason case and screen protector which work pretty well; the Quick Circle cases seem like a gimmick but are fun.
- Some might find the rear-mounted power and volume buttons fiddly.

I went to this from a Samsung Galaxy S6 as I wanted expandable storage and have no regrets. At £149 it's a steal and you won't get a new handset approaching this quality at this price elsewhere just now.

A word of warning, although no one else will probably be as stupid as me. The last few phones I have owned with Gorilla glass haven't really needed screen protectors over the two years I had them, so when I bought the G3 I didn't bother either, especially since I bought the Quick circle case for it.
Within a couple of days some quite solid dust had got under the Quick circle case and rubbed when the case had moved slightly, leaving a circle of scratch marks. Can't be seen when using the phone, so hasn't bothered me, but might hurt resale. :disappointed:

Camera is much better.Other half bought this phone when our little one arrived. I got the Moto G. The ones from the Moto g are just snaps - better than nothing, but not good quality. G3 has produced some real keepers that will go in the album. Still nowhere near something like a Sony Rx100 camera or a DSLR, but the bonus is that you will always have it with you. I'm toying with getting rid of my moto g just for the camera on this. That said the laser focus/flash absolutely blinds everyone if its dark and you are using flash.

So, I just wanted to try this, and I rarely connect my LG G3 to my PC, but every time I connect it, it charges but doesn't come up on my PC and I get a message saying 'USB not recognized', even though last time I connected it, it was fine. Has anyone received the OTA update for this phone yet, rather than manually flashing Marshmallow onto it?
brookysm
24 Apr 16 #79
Reading on the web some folk have but it's very simple to do it via PC, no rooting required just download the LG updater to your PC, install the drivers connect your phone and the updater will do the rest.
Blither
24 Apr 16 #80
For a phone that costs nearly 4x as much as the one you are comparing it to, I'd really, REALLY hope you are!! Why even bother mentioning that? It's surely not relevant here.
mkohagan
25 Apr 16 #81
Yeah I've had a look into it, but I've seen some things that you may lose files etc on the phone? Not sure if true, but anyway. Have downloaded the LG updater, but it doesn't say that there is a software update :disappointed: My model is the LG-D855

From what I've read seems to be easier to root whilst on 5.x rather than after marshmallow update.
I don't do much with root access but I have had add blockers on for so long that I have can't go back, unless anyone knows of ones that work without rooting? Both browser and in app
accg1991

Worst phone I have bought. I have replaced the handset and battery twice during my contract. Initial speeds soon drop off and it is an incredibly slow phone after a while.
dragonline77
25 Apr 16 #87
it didn't, I had to repair the screen and there's multiple cracks and dents. the UI is ****, not as bad as Samsung but it's still rubbish, slow as hell and it looks ugly as hell. of course most of these problems go away when you root and install your own ROM, but your average user won't do that
brookysm
25 Apr 16 #88
And now the phone is officially running on Marshmallow via an update so it's different again. You don't have to even install a ROM onto it if you don't like it, just use a different launcher from the play store.

I've had my G3 2 years and have had no reliability issues with it, my missus has used it while I switched to a Z2 but I've gone back to it to try it on Marshmallow and it's been fantastic so far.
brookysm
25 Apr 16 1 #89
The camera is very good but it depends on what you're going for with a sub £100 camera as something always has to give at that price point.
vik1
25 Apr 16 #90
Are you running OTA marshmallow or did you root it?
brookysm
25 Apr 16 1 #91
OTA doesn't seem to be happening in the UK yet however you don't need to root it, just install the LG updater on your PC, install the drivers and plug your phone in.

I want to root it for add blocking. But seems easier to do and then find a rom for marshmallow rather than trying to root afterwards
