Saw this Windows 10 Lenovo Mix 300 Tablet with detachable keyboard for £115 on the PC World store on Ebay...

While the specs will not set the world on fire, they seem excellent for the price. But a seperate Micro SD card will probably be necessary to take full advantage on Windows 10.

Unlike much of the stock PC World and other major retailers sell via Ebay, this is brand new and not a refurb. They are also saying this is £5 cheaper than if you was buying it directly from the PC World website.

The specs are below:
Operating system: Windows 10
Processor: Intel® Atom™ Z3735F Processor, Quad-core, 1.33 GHz / 1.83 GHz with Burst, 2 MB cache
Memory (RAM): 2 GB DDRL
Storage: 32 GB eMMC
Touchscreen: 5-point multitouch screen
Screen size: 10.1"
Resolution: 1280 x 800
Screen features: LED backlighting
Wireless: 802.11 b/g/n
Ethernet: No
Bluetooth: Bluetooth 4.0
USB Micro: USB x 1
Video interface: Mini HDMI x 1
Audio interface: 3.5 mm jack
Optical disc drive: No
Memory card reader: microSD card reader
Speakers: Integrated speaker
Camera: 5 MP camera, 2 MP webcam
Microphone: Yes
Battery life: Up to 9 hours
Box contents: Lenovo MIIX 300 10.1" 2 in 1, AC power adapter, User manual
Dimensions: 173 x 247 x 9.6 mm (H x W x D)
Weight: 615 g (tablet) 1175 g (with keyboard)
Software included: 1 year subscription to Microsoft Office Mobile, Lenovo OneKey Recovery, Lenovo Companion 3.0, Lenovo Photo Master, Lenovo SHAREit, Lenovo REACHit, McAfee LiveSafe

***TRY USING PROMO CODE "C20OFFERUK" TO GET 20% OFF THIS PRICE***
(Can't guarantee will work, but as I tried to take advantage of the 20% flash sale the other day on eBay and as was unsuccessful. They sent me this code and valid till 10th April.)

I own one of these tablets. While the CPU specs are low, it still takes care of general web browsing without stutter.
Window's boots quick and there isn't any slowdown with the interface. While plugged in the CPU turbos at 1.66ghz.
I can playback 1080 @ 60fps footage without slowdown as this has a hardware hardware decoder.
Only thing is disliked was the keyboard feel.

Seems has same CPU as many other significantly cheaper ones? Is this one any better than others?

The only benefits I can see here are keyboard, 2GB RAM and 32GB storage. Apart from the keyboard (not everyone need one otherwise cheap bluetooth keyboard can be found ~£10), most cheaper (like half the price) has 1GB RAM or 16GB storage.

My point is, as the CPU specification is quite low, it won't do many things. I'd better consider it purely a tablet rather than a PC. As a tablet, Windows haven't done a great job, unless some specific reasons, Android / iOS tablets are much better and have much more apps to use. As a PC, the performance is quite poor - you'll find sluggish even on simple tasks like open a few webpages (especially if you wanna stream video).

I bought a Linx 10 from previous Sainsbury's deal, I only used it for less than a few hours, and now it's just a display on my bedside permanently streaming live video from surveillance camera :disappointed: Can't imaging any other uses. Correct me if this is significant better than Linx 10.

PS, anyone who has Linx 10 finds the screen is flickering unless the brightness is set to 100%?

You could just install Android via bluestacks to get the best of both worlds.

As to the web pages issue, I have a HP stream 7 that only has 1gb of RAM and it's reasonably peppy for web browsing using the same SOC CPU. Do you use any ad blocking software because that's the only time I've ever found these low end devices to show any real signs of having issues is when my ad blocking and javascript blocking are both deactivated.

I don't need an Android tablet, and never thought BS on Win 10 tablet could be any possible faster than native Android tablets :stuck_out_tongue:

Why do people say things like "While the specs will not set the world on fire" and "not the fastest Laptop in the world" when what they really mean is SLOW.
dblake to Jefft
3 Apr 16 2 #9
What they mean is, yes don't expect it run the latest games or do your video production on it. I would not describe it as slow though, I use it over my higher spec laptop as it boots in seconds, handles my browsing, can access my work email and the Office Mobile does most of the jobs I've needed, all without any noticeable slow down. Love mine, bought it at £130 and thought it was great value then.
Money_Expert
3 Apr 16 2 #10
It's not slow if you're just using it for web browsing or 1080 video playback (via win media player or YouTube). It handles Win10 like a champ. Windows 10 is more optimised for mobile, while coupled with an SSD it's a snappy experience all-round.
Just don't expect anything CPU intensive to be fun... but who in their right mind buys an Atom powered device expecting a good gaming or video editing experience?
My only real criticism was the crappy keyboard feel and layout. But it is great how they added two full size USB ports to the keyboard section.

I don't know if Asus transformer has a better keyboard or if it's the same as this. If it's better, I'd definitely say spend the extra £15 and get the Asus.

Our Linx1010B does not have an issue with the screen flickering. Actually we have found it a surprisingly useful little PC (rather more useful than our iPad minis in many respects), but utility does of course depend on the user and lifestyle.

I'm waiting for mine (delivery Tuesday) - I bought it from them on the 20% ebay deal last week, £92 delivered

People love to compare these machines (unfavourably) with laptops, desktops and gaming rigs - they aren't, these are the Windows equivalent of Ipad\Android tablets and work well at being just that. Fast, 'pick up and go' internet and email tablets with the added advantage of Windows compatibility and a keyboard for when you need one.

Try and find a decent spec 10" Android tablet for the prices these sell at!

It is a deal and it is not at the same time  spec is poor! It was about 10 months ago but now x-3, x-5 or x-7 are latest processors for Intel based tablets and sub-notebooks... this looks like Lenovo, ASUS, ACER and few other companies are making this new Lines of products using outdated tech because Intel need to sell out old stock to have space for brand new tech that will go to major Chines players and after next 10 mounths to " World most innovative " companies from US/EU

I ordered this from the same seller supposedly brand new a few weeks ago. The screen was scratched in a few places and it was obviously a return. The actual product seemed well made and the keyboard felt nice to use. Returns process was easy.....

3 Apr 16 #19
There's a reason these are cheap, bay trail is old tech, really need to be looking at Cherry Trail / Core M. These usually start with 4GB ram and are around same price as these available from the likes of Deal Extreme and Gearbest etc.

I already own a Toshiba Encore 8 with Z3740 and 2GB memory which is slightly better than this but looking to replace with a 10" cherry trail or better (but cheap) as I find Windows tablets quite useful
delgado to pinchez
3 Apr 16 2 #20
Cherry Trail has overheating/throttling issues and some sort of graphics bug and isn't much better than Bay Trail anyway (improvements were mostly gpu rather than cpu). Intel are even releasing new Cherry Trails because of this (Z8350, Z8550, Z8750). I recently chose Bay Trail rather than Cherry Trail because of these issues.

Core M would be great but you're looking at 4 times the price of this deal. I think if you have realistic expectations these are good value for money. They are fine for a few basic tasks at a time which is all a lot of people are looking for. If you want more cpu power and RAM for more intensive tasks/multitasking you're going to need to spend more than £115.

Has anyone managed to output the video from one of these Lenovo's via hdmi to a tv or projector. I have the Lenovo and the hdmi is described as mini hdmi out, I ordered a mini hdmi lead, which proved to be fartoo large a connection. I also have a micro hdmi cable which will fit in the micro usb connection next to the hdmi, but not into the 'mini' hdmi. This hdmi port on the laptop is even smaller than the micro cable commonly found on mobile phone chargers. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks.
dblake to Lovely46
3 Apr 16 #22
I've got a micro HDMI to HDMI lead I use with mine. Just back from a holiday where I plugged into the tv there and watched movies on it successfully. Think you just need to get the right sort of cable, got mine for about £1.50 on eBay.
scowie to Lovely46
3 Apr 16 #24
It has a micro-HDMI-out, not mini; the spec on the ebay page is wrong. Your micro hdmi cable fits into the micro-hdmi port, it doesn't fit into a micro-usb port — I can only guess you are getting the two mixed up, easy to do seeing as they tend to put the micro-hdmi next to the usb ports on these things (at least, my linx 1010 is like that), whilst the micro-usb is off on it's own.

I have this. Sound is shocking. Other than that - I would buy it again and again. I browse the internet, listen to music, watch a few films, do a little bit of word processing - it's so handy just sitting here typing and using the touchscreen. Keyboard is a little fiddly - but for this money, it does everything you would need. Boots up quickly. I have stuck in a 64gb memory card in and make sure I don't save anything to the harddrive - as I am sure it would fill up pretty quickly and slow it down.

I've spent £400 on 'proper' laptops which have died on me after 3/4 years - so much happier getting a couple of years out of this.

I have the miix 3 which is last year's model with the superior screen resolution. Looks like Lenovo have gone backwards this year. Other specs are the same apart from the 300 has a rear facing camera.

The miix 3 is a really nice well put together laptop. As a tablet and at 10.1" I don't thinks Windows works. You certainly need a mouse to make sure you hit some of the very small headings or boxes. For browsing emails etc tablet format is fine I have the keyboard permanently attached to mine. It can easily handle multiple pages and 1080 Youtube videos. It is definitely worth the money. I have also got mine using the mobdro app via bluestacks. I bought mine over anything else because of the screen resolution of 1920 x 1200. The only other that came close was the surface pro at 3 times the price!! As the new model has a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 I would definitely consider the Asus t100.

Window 10 is super quick at loading. Finally Microsoft have got something right with start up. About 4 weeks ago I bought the Lenovo tab 2 Android tablet. I use the tablet everyday where the miix 3 is left gathering dust!! It's just easier and quicker to use Android for quickness and convenience and the tablet has better battery life. Not taking anything away from the miix as I now have it loaded with car diagnostic software which was one of the reasons for purchasing it. I have Windows 7 starter running inside Windows 10 using VMWare Workstation. This I need for Op-com as I can't get it to work on Windows 10 (yet). Forscan which I use for my Mazda and the wife's Ford. Forscan works great with Windows 10.

I just do not understand how people can use Windows on these TERRIBLE processors and make no mistake, this IS a terrible processor. I am sitting on a i5 and my Windows 10 stutters. My i5 has a benchmark of 3900+ while this machine is a 907 -_-

I would never recommend any of these machines to anyone.

No offense to the deal poster.
Smartguy1 to Kayote
3 Apr 16 #33
If you have got an i5 running windows 10 and it stutters then you got something wrong with your PC / Laptop. My miix 3 doesn't stutter at all. Did you buy your laptop with windows 10 on it or did you do the update from windows 7 or 8/8.1. If you did the upgrade you need to do a clean install of windows after you have updated.

I also have macbook pro which will blow most windows machines out of the water for speed so its not like the miix 3 is our only laptop. Wife Acer running an i3 is not so good and hangs a lot but that hasn't had a fresh install of windows 10 put on it yet, just the update.

No, there isnt anything wrong with it
Windows is generally very heavy, my perception is also clouded by the fact that I use Ubuntu most of the day for development & its many many times faster.

You could, in a very very very loose way compare osx to ubuntu as they both are built on the same base, however, processors wise, they house the same specs as available on windows. Your wife's i3 would be much faster than this terrible cpu.

Just to point out that I only use the miix 3 for browsing and my car diagnostics. I don't have any complaints with it for the price I paid. Comparing it to my wife's acer running an i3 it is on par if not a better performer. Its certainly quicker at browsing the internet as the Acer i3 is quite slow. I personally don't rate the acer machine and will not buy another. I don't know why but the more you use a windows device the slower it gets with only a re-install of the operating system bringing it back to life. Strangely enough my works pc running windows 7 professional, 3gb ram and quite an old processor, not sure what, is really fast and is as god today as it was 2 years ago when I started work there. Windows update is turned off and we have a pro anti virus set up. Windows is such a complicated operating system and they are security bonkers. There must be a simpler and better way forward because updates via windows are just a nightmare. I re-installed the OS on my dad's 5 year old laptop the other week. The install took about an hour or so and then it spent the next 4 nights doing updates before I could put windows 10 on it. Pu t 10 on it and it made the cpu fan run at full speed. Something of an issue with amd processors and windows 10 according to amd website. How long has windows 10 been out now. It's a joke. If that had been a mac it would be all done in an hour, end of story. So went back to 7 and no issues on the HP. Apart from the mac our budget for a windows laptop is usually around the £400.00 mark. My dad's HP was about that cost when he bought it and the wife's acer was just under purchased in 2011 so about the same age. Her previous laptop was also an Acer. I don't rate them or HP and won't buy their products again. We also have a Lenovo tower pc in our family as well and pound for pound the Lenovo's are better built, faster and don't come with loads of bloatware. I will certainly look at what Lenovo have to offer for any of my future windows or android purchases.

for the price and functionality it gives u, its a good deal IMHO!
gilesrdavies to coling1976
5 Apr 16 1 #39
I don't see why not, as Windows 10 should be able to run anything Windows 7 and 8 can.

Remember you dont have a CD Drive to install things if that's how Office 2007 came. Also you only have about 20GB of space left on system after you take into account Windows 10 installation.

Apple will have one of those out soon but it may cost a little more........I have the miix 3 which has the HD screen. It's nice for the money but it would be interesting to see it side by side with the 1280 x 800. I also have the Lenovo Tab 2 with the same 1920 x 1200 screen but I would say the miix looks better. Possibly the way the resolution is processed perhaps.

Mine arrived today too... Royal Mail took five days to deliver it, but no worries.
It's just like using a normal laptop, but smaller when attached to the keyboard, very impressed for the price. Seems reasonable quick, nice screen and over 20GB of free space.
I'm not totally convinced as a tablet though, once the keyboard is detached. Windows still feels clunky and feel you need a track pad (as on the keyboard) or a mouse, to get the most from the operating system.
