Yeah thats what I thought, although I think old days glass was used and I think not water but ethanol. So really I think new stuff is just made to sell things more often....Buy level, then bublble then again again....

I have a level that was my dads he was an Ornamental Plasterer, the bubbles (2 levels) in the level are fine and its at least 50 Years old and in regular use.

Anyone got a link for where I can get a replacement bubble? I have an old spirit level that the bubble has evaporated in and I'm pretty sure I have a left handed screwdriver knocking about (if not my dad will have one), I just need the bubble.

don't need one - but I got one from fleabay for £3.01 after reading this - just what I need to fill the small amount of space left in my store room cupboard (also going to go to the shops and ask if they have any long weights and some sky hooks)

Oh dear! ive never heard that one before tbh, mainly because i modified my longer spirit level which the bubble's level can now be adjusted. ill see myself out..

"Just like water evaporates in air, air bubble will 'evaporate' in water" - it is widely known in science world... Every builder and DIY-er knows that average air bubble will last up to 2 years (Bosch air bubbles even 3 years. avoid cheap ones as they disappear within 6 months!).
To replace air bubble in your spirit level you will need left hand screwdriver (right hand won't do the job) - not available in B&Q, Wickes etc, only specialists stores, ie Screwfix.
That's why someone mentioned the left hand screwdriver - by the looks of it this level will likely need new bubble within 6 months...

i wouldnt trust these! i bought one a while back and when the unit gets knocked, the laser sighting get misaligned and is then mute.
also, why would you ever need to change the spirit bubble? its the housing its connected to that makes it become inaccurate after moderate uses. the bubble's a bubble in liquid, it itself will never be inaccurate
