Generous discount but the 1GB RAM means it's living on borrowed time now Apple is shipping everything iOS with 2GB (even the "cheap" new iPhone SE). I'm a huge Apple fan, but I wouldn't spend £500+ today on a device that is likely going to struggle to run future versions of iOS.

From cheap steel no doubt.
It is this sort of thing that destroys the British economy and reduces our once proud manufacturing industry to nothing more than a dried out husk of its former glory days when the Empire was mighty and the seas were ruled by Jolly Jack Tar and his ilk.
If you buy this you are supporting Johnny Foreigner and his devious underhand ways of trading while the spirit of proud British workmanship lies impotent on the ground breathing its last as the mighty Chinese dragon rolls over all in a never ending quest for world domination.

128GB iPhone 6 (regular) also £499.97 (£470 if O2 pays off).
Heat as it is cheaper for an iPhone, but its not a 6S so this is over 18 months old. Even the SE has a better chip (but less screen real estate and storage), and 2016 Android flagships are not that much more than this (although you would be hard pressed to find ANY phone with 128GB on-board storage at this price)

To my knowledge O2 will only work if you have it reserved to collect in the store (not delivered to store)- if you pay online you cannot obtain the discount. So to utilise O2 discount, basically, you have to have a store nearby that has stock on hand of this item.

Being made in China is not the point, more concerned about the 11 hour days the employees work six days a week for $1.50/hour (as of 2013).
It's pretty obscene given how much the phones cost.

Firstly, the original post was almost blatantly ironic, not sure how you missed it.
But I agree we should have extreme exploitation here in the UK as well.
We had this in England 100 years ago- absolute working poverty. We don't need idiotic statements like this asking for it back. You do a week working 11 hour shifts taking home £15 a day then talk big. Of course, your retort is that these people should get "skills" and "qualifications" that would allow them a decent life. In which case, everybody would be an engineer, lawyer, doctor, programmer etc. Simply can not be the case, and as long as a country is prosperous- its citizens should prosper in proportion. Of course, that doesn't mean people without skills should be driving Ferraris around, but the wage should be more than $1.50 an hour, with actual working rights.
Germany's economy is one with quality manufacturing but also a higher average wage than the UK. Surely all German workers should be competing with China's obscenely low wages, but of course they are not. I wonder why not.
This iPhone is not actually THAT expensive, £500 for a phone that can last you two, maybe three years (longer if you don't care about upgrading). At £166 a year, that's £3 a week. Membership to the Apple club costs only £3 a week (the cost of a fancy coffee out once a week) and makes life that bit more enjoyable.
There ARE costs associated with production. It isn't just the obscenely cheap labour that Apple (and the majority of other major international companies) use. This is where they cut corners to make their margin up. The design of it, marketing of it, and constant software updates and maintenance aren't free. Of course, Apple need their margin, and as long as they have a consumer product that millions want- they can name the price they want.
All that said, my phone is a Htc One M8, no doubt produced in a Far Eastern Sweatshop for less than I make in a few hours. This doesn't stop the system from being wrong. If there were a British manufacturer of world class smartphones, I might buy one of them- but there just isn't.

It turned into this because someone suggested that we should do what the Chinese do and that we Brits are lazy. There is no such thing as 'national' laziness and this self degradation is annoying. I am British and work hard, I just want due compensation for the work I do. There is no reason to accept working poverty, even less reason to encourage it here in Britain.

not a pop at apple fans but this phone is bang average, at this price it should have 4GB ram a standard...but apple keep RAM low to maximise profits...as if they dont make enough
DennisG to callagc
15 Apr 163#36
no, you've fallen for the oldest trick in the book
RAM in itself is not an indication of performance. i could show you a coach with a bigger engine than a 2 seat coupe but it's not necessarily going to be more powerful. some people may look at the spec sheet and be fooled though
iPhones by their very nature (due to the hardware and software being made by the same people) is far more optimised than say 3gb ram in an HTC running google's software
when the hardware manufacturers don't know where the software creators will go from one year to the next, they just ram(!) it full of components to look good on a basic comparison chart, but actual performance will not be 50% better than in a 2gb iPhone
callagc
15 Apr 16#38
always the same argument..then why doesnt apple put 4gb in at start and then optimize it...they dont as thats money they keep
nitro228
15 Apr 16#39
For the same reason other manufacturers don't put in 16gb of ram. It isn't necessary. IOS is very resource efficient, and as such doesn't need huge specs to give the same (and normally better) performance as android phones that have far higher specs on paper. Of course they will only use the minimum they can get away with, as anything else eats into their profits.
Manufacturers of Android phones need to make them higher spec (quad core, 4gb ram etc) since every other manufacturer is doing the same. The majority of people are sucked in by the specs as they don't realise it makes bigger all difference in reality.
This is a good price for what it is but I wouldn't buy one now, as in reality it will only be supported for another 2-3 years. The iPhone 6s will easily last another year to 18 months on top of that before it becomes unsupported and performance slows down.

Super cold, old tech and for that price u must be joking. Get a Xiaomi redmi note 3 pro (3gb and 32gb ROM) version for around £153 on Ali express. And then buy at 128 class 10 micro SD for £20-25 and put that in.
Antutu = 79000
Tech = snapdragon 650, 1080p, 4000mah battery, super up to date. That processor is not even out in the UK retail stores
Memory = 32gb pluse the 128gb so more flexibility as u don't need apple bloat to do anything
Interface = MIUI best fro people moving from apple to android
Quality = metal body, infra red etc

15 Apr 161#41
Because he's right, iPhones are so well optimised that even with 2gb ram they still run faster than most android flagships, so well optimised that when they have updates the whole userbase with iphones released within a 3 or 4 year release timeframe get the updates. Unlike google which when they have updates only Nexus users get them straight away (and even then the older Nexus phones have problems, mine has crazy wifi and network problems since android 5 and still remains when I updated to android 6.0.1 yesterday), the android user base has become fragmented by the system updates.
callagc
15 Apr 16#42
ok so apple can use less memory...should that not be reflected in lower prices?

People fail to see that 1GB ram is more than enough. Apple is very good at optimising its software. I don't play games on mine or watch movies so 1GB is fine for whatsapp and browsing.

Strange how HUKD works. I posted the 64GB version of this a few weeks back for the same price from John Lewis and it went mega cold, freezing in fact, with people complaining that it wasn't the latest 6S. Now this 'old' version has an extra 64GB and it's one of the hottest deals of the day. Does the extra 64GB really make that much difference?

Presumably old stock as Apple stopped selling this last year when the 6s was released. Good price though as this is cheaper than their 64GB counterparts from Apple
Very tempting but think I will hold out for a 6s deal. Finding 16gb nowhere near enough these days on my 5S but I don't need 128gb, 64 would be ample.
