The one so called from ebay comes with scratches on the back and some of them might have screen replaced. In the past no single refurb from o2 came with any scratches or cosmetic damage, instead they looked all brand new because usually they are open box customer returns anyway + you are covered with proper 12 month warranty from o2 (some people mentioned they received a refurb phone with 12 month warranty from apple).

Insurance and warranty may worth the hassle though. It took around 10 minutes including requesting the iPhone to be unlocked.

The tariff says its £27.50 but it's broken into two contracts. One for £6 and the other £21.50. Ring o2 when it comes and pay off full 24 X £6. DONT put the sim in your device. Then ask to get it unlocked for free. Then cancel the airtime contract with no charge. Simple!

Be wary of any warranty with o2 that's not with Apple directly. Usually these refurb iPhones from o2 have a few months Apple warranty left if your lucky. Had to get my iPhone 5 replaced under warranty with o2 and was nothing but hassle. You have to physically send your device away and wait a week without ano phone while they fix it. Sent mine twice and they sent it back each time saying it's fixed when it wasn't. Eventually They sent me another refurb which had screen issues but this one had time left on its Apple warranty so Apple replaced the whole unit no questions asked there and then. o2 don't use Apple for repairs but dodgy third party companies that aren't authorised by Apple - look on o2 forums.

Comment .
I thought the point jimbob was making is a heads up that the warranty on this apple phone is not like the apple warranty. With the apple warranty it involves having your phone swapped there and then at the shop. With the warranty on this apple phone deal you have to send it away to a third party that tries to fix things on behalf of O2. They might fix it the same day they receive it and post it back to you within a few days, or they might not be able to look at it for a long time, all the while you may be without a mobile phone.
Oh you do get spoilt with an apple warranty they way they carry it out but then again check out how much they charge for a smart phone
andyatcorco

I got two of these this way, before Christmas and when they were signed in to apple account, they both still had full apple warranty on them from that date. I think most of these refurbs will be that way but o2 can't guarantee this so they sell them stating the o2 warranty.

Any reason why you have to order with the 3GB monthly tariff as from the 300mb tariff upwards there is no upfront cost.
Just spoke to O2 on live chat and was advised that if you pay off the phone plan and cancel the airtime within 14 days then you won't be charged for the first month. They also advised that if you buy it on pay monthly then you can unlock the phone anytime free of charge, if you buy it outright then you need to pay £15.00 to unlock the phone

I just called to do mine.
The 1st advisor that I spoke to didn't have a clue and said I couldn't do what I was asking.
I said that it could be done and advised her to check with a supervisor which she did & was given the correct information.
She then transferred me to retentions who knew exactly what they were doing and it was done without fuss.
My advice is not to go into the details with the initial advisor but ask to be transferred to retentions to cancel your account - once there explain what you want to do.

I used a similar offer last year and the phone was great, the o2 people were idiots. I got charged twice for buying the phone, then they said I did not cancel, then they accepted the cancel, but from the wrong date, then they charged me again for airtime, then they cut me off accidently (it took 48 hours to get that sorted) then I got someone reasonable who told me to cancel my DD as I was going to be hit again big time. It took over 6 months to clear up this mess and I am convinced that o2 have become the new 3 when it comes to customer service.
Not once did they apologise.
The offer is good, but if it goes wrong the company are truly awful. I know from previous threads my situation is not a one-off.

As mentioned earlier - once you've paid off the phone in full, you ask for it to be unlocked. Then once that's processed call again to cancel. You have 14 days grace period to cancel without paying the full month - you may be charged for the number of days the sim was active. For me it was 3 days so about £2.
ma11wi11
19 Apr 16#84
Try a different sim in it. It may already be unlocked. Otherwise it may be that you didn't activate the sim they sent by making a few calls/texts from it.
FWIW I had similar unlatching rejections but I think it's because it's already unlocked. My Vodafone sim works just fine.
