Ipad Pro 9.7 at the cheapest price I can currently see and a very good saving against buying direct from Apple or other high street retailers. Remember to use code MAYDAY for this price.

With £25 cashback through TopCashBack, that would make the price fall to £384. A whopping £115 saving on most retailers including Apple themselves. Probably won't see close to that price until the next model releases.

Cashback is not guaranteed. So if it tracks and pays out its double savings.

rakuten messed up badly with the cashback on this one

I had ordered an ipad air 2 and after deciding to cancel that one, an ipad pro. the ipad pro was cancelled by pixel instead.

now I checked topcashback, both transactions were payed out.

Ipad arrived today - after sending a chaser email the day before yesterday. (Not sure if they were due to send it anyway or if the email speeded things up. Several other hotukdeal comments state that theirs arrived the day after an email chaser)

It has uk mains charger.

Hopefully points will arrive in my account soon.

The cherry on the cake will be if topcashback pays out on this as well.

This is the trade-off here, ~£80 (~20% saving) extra for a UK version with the 6 year cover. Apple do recognise an 'import' and will not provide the 6yrs in-store cover as I recently found out when my U.S.-bought MacBook Air battery needed service they said I needed to pay. The lady next to me had the same laptop/issue but UK version and they replaced for free, there and then.

But ive bought iphones and the like from other places, registered through iTunes, then been able to go to my nearest Apple shop and get repairs and exchanges no problem. Didn't find it anywhere else for much cheaper with the VAT taken into consideration and Apple support is good so if there is only a small saving in price I would buy from them. Look mate, let's just draw a line under it all now, eh? Believe it or not, it does help that people post their negative experiences as well as people posting positive ones. I wasn't looking to argue with you, I was just trying to balance things out. I'm not saying your opinion is wrong. It's not that mine is right either. The only factual thing about the speaker side is they have been found to be just as loud as the bigger model. Louder doesn't necessarily mean better, but I've always found iPad speakers to be lacking and it is something Apple should have implemented a long time ago.

I said I wasn't replying because I felt like you were attacking me. From what I can see, we appear to have misunderstood each other and it has became heated. I'm not someone who is a "fanboy" of any product. As I said, I'm using an Android phone now. Had a Windows phone prior to that and an Apple phone prior to that. I buy a product on whether it's suitable for my needs.

Anyway, this is turning into one of those long posts you pointed out I did so apologies for the misunderstanding and let's just draw a line under all of it.

You could pick up a windows tablet with a digitizer for a little less if you went for a slightly dated model or an i5 or core M based Dell tablet from Dell outlet (with up to 8gb memory and 256gb emmc). Maybe even cheaper iirc that the Dell Venue 8 5000 uses a Wacom aes digitizer/pen.

29 Apr 16 #91

In the store I went to, they didn't have a quiet zone to test the speakers and they had a keyboard out but no pencil. If the pencil is important to you then undoubtedly, you need a Pro, but I ended up unimpressed with the pencil and returned it, though kept the Pro 12.9" as I find it good for general use (even if it was expensive).

If you're coming from a lesser iPad and committed to spend £400+ on an iPad and want the latest, this is a good deal, no doubt about it.
BattleCat
29 Apr 16 #88
Just upgraded from an iPad 3 and it's an immense jump. Personally love the speakers (why didnt they have the sense to do it on the iPad 1?!), screen is outstanding, speed is ridiculous and loving the smaller form factor which has been standard on the Airs. Bargain price. I did the Argos quidco 10% money back and voucher getting it at 440. Very happy with purchase. Heat!
daBluone
29 Apr 16 #87
You most definitely can test the keyboard, pencil, camera and volume in official Apple stores.

Also I'd mention that you cannot compare the ipad air 2 and pro line when talking about pencil support. As an artist I'd say there is no comparison and while I'd say the price is very high you'd have to spend a lot more for a surface pro 4 or Wacom tablet.
plewis00
29 Apr 16 #86
It's my job to buy and use all tablets, whereas you just seem to be a fanboy... I still voted the deal hot because it is for what it is and, unlike you, I don't see the point in writing long paragraphs defending the things. The Air 2 was a really good tablet and the Pro just wasn't what everyone else hoped for, yet people will still buy it in their droves.

And no, you cannot test the speakers at full volume in-store, nor the pencil, the keyboard or camera. I have used all of them and that's my opinion, you don't have to like it, if I save someone some money by choosing the older but perfectly good Air 2 vs. the Pro then that's great.

- I didn't even see it was originally you who posted the deal either.
biddilybah
29 Apr 16 #85
I'm "vehemently defending" them?

Ok, I see what's going on here. You buy all three yet dislike all three? Reviewers are all stating this is not the upgrade they were expecting over the Air 2 so your conspiracy just got thrown right out the window on that front.

I have been using iPads for a long time. I, however, do not upgrade to the latest model every single year. It's up to others if they choose to, however I see it as a complete waste of money. I'm using a mini 2 right now and I have a relative with the bigger pro.

You're looking for every reason to take a dump on the products and it's getting tiresome. There was no need for the attack towards myself. It's just childish. You could quite easily have formed an opinion by trying these tablets in store or by looking online at articles before buying them. If you do actually own them and are disapointed in them, then that is your own fault.

My opinion, as is matched by reviewers and other users on youtube etc is that the speakers are better. Your opinion does not hold more value than mine or anyone elses. Facts show they are better and this has been measured with spl meters too.

Now if you don't like the product, then just stop commenting. You've given your opinion as have others. I won't be replying anymore.

Enjoy your day.
plewis00
29 Apr 16 #84
You didn't read what I wrote as I said if you had to choose you would probably take the Pro but I very much doubt anyone who has an Air 2 is going to buy a Pro instead. It's made worse because these aren't cheap £100 tablets but £400-500 so not such a simple, throw-away/no-thought purchase.

Go and play with an iPad Pro 9.7 yourself with a 12.9 and Air 2 next to it and you'll see what I mean, just because Techradar says it's better doesn't mean it categorically is and I have all 3 on my desk right now. There was also a theory that Apple restricts products to reviewers if they portray them in a negative light and that the reason there are so many Apple reviews out there is because it's obviously good clickbait for readers.

The Pro should've had 4GB of RAM if Apple wanted to entice buyers (who just want to feel they're getting a better deal than the Air 2), and 'power of 2' isn't the case as the A8X was triple-core.

It's up to you though, you're vehemently defending them and I've been using their products for a while but the iPad Pro is incredibly boring; at the end of the day, it's more a 'good media consumption device' than anything Pro at all.
vishaljh
29 Apr 16 #83
I did not kick up the fuss. Just wanted to know and I was told that this will be UK model. I will wait and see. I would have purchased it either ways but happy either ways.
biddilybah
29 Apr 16 #82
The speakers seem pretty evenly matched to the bigger pro according to reviews and demonstrations on youtube. They are better than older models just in the fact that they can finally produce stereo sound correctly.

From Techradar's review
"We were pleasantly surprised to see that the new iPad Pro has the same clever four-speaker setup as the bigger Pro; it knows what way you're holding the device and tweeters become woofers and woofers become tweeters, as required. It sounds great, and it's twice as loud as the old iPad Air 2."

Not sure how you see not as "not much of an improvement" to be honest.

I would personally have liked them to have included 4gb of ram on the 9.7, however, if it isn't there, then it probably just isn't needed. iOS isn't as ram hungry as other competing OS' and the likelyhood is that the bigger pro got 4gb due to the higher resolution and that Apple stick to the power of 2 rule. This will still translate to the smaller pro not being as good as the bigger model for multitasking, but some just don't want that giant screen.

At the end of the day, the whole market is stagnant across all manufacturers and nothing really jumps out at all. There is a lack of innovation across all tablets and phones to the point where they're all doing minor updates year after year. Some people have older models than the iPad Air 2 and for the better features that the 9.7 Pro has over it, plus the promise of longer support in updates for an extra £60, can you honestly suggest people buy an Air 2 over this? I know I wouldn't.

Seems like Malaysia use the same plugs as UK.

However I have checked again and was confirmed that these will not be Malaysian units but UK units. Happy days.
zebrum to vishaljh
29 Apr 16 #81
I find that hard to believe, because the reason they are cheaper is they are imported from countries where the currency is weaker, and they specifically mention in the advert this iPad is imported. In Singapore the iPad is £100 cheaper. Usually the iPad is £499 and this seller sells it for £469 so you save £30 and they make £70 with a couple of pound towards shipping.

It's possible since you kicked up a fuss you'll get a UK one and they'll take a small hit, but you might be the only one!

If you really care about getting a UK model, which makes no difference at all btw the way, then you should just buy in the UK. Most of us are happy to buy cheap electronics, e.g. when on holiday in Asia or the US where tax is always much cheaper than the ridiculous 20% in the UK. So in this particular case its like shopping in Singapore/Malaysia without the hassle of a long flight! No doubt they'll get shut down soon enough once customs catches up with them, so buy while you can!
plewis00
29 Apr 16 #80
The speakers on the bigger Pro are better, but they're not night and day on the 9.7", they're kind of mediocre and you're not comparing the same product; I have the bigger Pro. I suppose if you broke your Air 2 and needed a replacement then buy the Pro but it's just such an annoyingly uninspired, not innovative and lazy refresh - yet another in a long line. I suppose that's kind of the problem when the last one was already very good...

it has a display that takes into account ambient light so looks like paper or a magazine, very easy on the eyes. Also works with the pencil, also has the smart connector for using Apples keyboards. Finally it has 4 speakers in each corner which do stereo in any orientation. If you don't need any of these features then get the Air 2.

Ssshhhh. It's got Pro in it. Everyone will sell their previous gen and buy one!

This should have had OSX and not iOS to be a 'pro' to rival the Surface.

Hot deal though. I need to buy an Air 2 in the coming weeks for the wife. This would be wasted on Facebook, Candy Crush and Tapped Out! Her iPad 3 is showing it's age though, or rather Apple's planned obsolescence has killed it...

Ok, the comments in here seem to be increasing about people's choice to buy an iPad over an Android or Windows offering. I'm not going to get into this debate as frankly it's so tired and boring now that I cannot believe it still goes on, but if people want an iPad, they'll buy an iPad. People can choose to buy what they want and they don't need others telling them what to buy.

It's worse than kids arguing over games consoles all this

All the ones I've seen just use sensors to auto adjust the brightness. This changes brightness, colour temperature and I think colour saturation although not 100% sure on that last one.

I ordered the air 2 a few days ago and it was delivered within 24hrs, Ratuken didn't give me a tracking number until I asked for it 2 days later to find out it had been delivered to next door neighbours, what was bad was that FedEx didn't leave a card and in the tracking site, all they had was the neighbours surname as signature, fortunately for me they let me know, but still pleased with purchase.

Just to add to that, I've bought and iPad mini and an iPad Pro from Rakuten in the past. They are no amazon when it comes to customer services but they do deliver. You just need a bit of patience as some of their orders can take up 2 weeks. You have to weigh up the price cuts to decide if you would be better of elsewhere.

Coming up for the 32gb rose gold for me is £469 then 15% off down to £398 then possible 6% (£23) cashback down to £374 and some folk on here factor in the extra points into the figures (£23) so for them it all comes out at £351.

I've heard the speakers on the bigger pro myself and to say they're not much of an improvement isn't true to be honest. It's night and day. At the end of the day, this is £90 cheaper than Apple and most retailers charge and while the iPad Air 2 is (64gb model as no 32gb model to compare to) now £60 cheaper (on Pixelelectronics) it takes the sting out of it not being a massive upgrade. As has been said, better screen, better camera, better speakers, better processor, pencil and smart keyboard support etc, then I don't think it's really that bad in my opinion.

Does anyone know if these are subject to VAT and if tax invoices are available? I've emailed them but their shop info suggests the buyer is responsible for taxes and the checkout breakdown doesn't mention VAT.
biddilybah
29 Apr 16 1 #46
I don't see the issue? That is the same with most companies and as stated under The Consumer Contract Regulations, it says:

"A deduction can be made if the value of the goods has been reduced as a result of you handling the goods more than was necessary.

The extent to which a customer can handle the goods is the same as it would be if you were assessing them in a shop."

Most shops have a display model so you're not actually handling the iPad you buy at all.

Those terms apply to you sending it back because you no longer want it. Under warranty, they have to provide a refund or you can go through Apple anyway seeing as they have a worldwide warranty.

The other one is yeah! This is the newest one which came out about a month ago and there are some trade offs. It has half the ram as its big brother but better cameras and screen quality etc, worth giving a google yourself before buying

29 Apr 16 1 #43
Ok, so if you need this actual product, the price is good/hot but having compared it side-by-side to an Air 2 it's such a waste of time, it's more like a product refresh - the speakers aren't that much of an improvement, the Pencil's benefit is debatable but I didn't like it and the TrueTone display effect is achieved quite closely with software (NightShift or F.lux). It is fractionally quicker than an Air 2, but not by a lot, much like the 6 and 6s phones. Complete lack of innovation from Apple, yet again.

Warning

Their return policy:

"For a full refund returned product(s) must be in their original state i.e new, unused and not physically broken or damaged. •"

I can't say for certain to be honest. So on the one hand the xbox dropped a tenner for the deal and post-deal back up, on the other hand the iPad already dropped a tenner today just before the deal. So if I were to guess this price already includes the deal discount however don't take my word for it.

You maybe right as I looked into that earlier. If it stays at £469 then it's safe for others to order I guess. I haven't paid much attention to whether the prices stay the same and just get advertised on the front page to be honest.

I'll remove the warning if you've seen that that is the current pattern though

Hard to say. The deals throughout this past week that are in the emails are still live now so the current £469 (£409 with code) price may still the price in the morning. Just don't want others to potentially pay over the odds tonight if it does drop further in the morning.

After the item ships, they get credited to your Rakuten account 8 days later. You then can use them towards anything on the Rakuten site and when you checkout, you can select to use the points as full or part payment.
