Intel stated in December they intended to ramp up SSD production to become more competitive this year, looks like part of that initiative. Sandforce 2281 controller with Intel's customised firmware (which took Intel literally years to debug, test and validate before it was good enough to put their name on it)
16nm Flash MLC, I'd say it would be similar speed to the Integral SSD at £23-24.99 from mymemory, but with guaranteed reliability because its Intel, but at this price, Sandisk Plus 240GB (on offer) would be a better buy.
I have the Integral 120GB SSD on order to test, the reason I bought one - Integral's USB 3.0 Fusion products (USB Sticks) are a quality product, I've high hopes, we'll see.

However, these 535's are not really much better than the 530's and they were pretty poor! :man:

Total nonsense they're a great company.

I am quoting your initial post, you gave no more information than that.

Rom didn't call you nonsense or your story, he called your claim they are a bad seller nonsense.

And in fact your personal bad experience doesn't make them a bad seller. So I agree with his post.

I have had what you would call "a bad experience" with Amazon and I think in general they are considered as one of the best.

If you came saying, "I have had bad experience with them, this is what happened" avoid no one would call out your claim to be non sense.

Also as Rom hinted I would find your story hard to believe if you weren't so fervent on discrediting them.

What I would say is a possibility is that someone purchased the drive, swapped with a fake and returned to them. They didn't check well and sold it again as new.

Note that selling a return as new is very much standard store practice with customer returns and I have had it happen to me from Currys for example.
huangxq2
2 Apr 16 1 #8
You have not had bad experience, so you think they are great.

You do not see me call you nonsense.

I had bad experience with them (bought a new hard drive, received a used one which got fake label and packaging pretend to be brand new.) Then I searched and realise that they have been doing it all along.

I am questioning the reputation of reviewcentre.com.

Even the superstores like Currys and John Lewis got bad reviews on reviewcentre.com

and that's because there is no control on reviewcentre.com, everyone can say "BS" on reviewcentre.com

In UK any company with "brick & mortar" office and a land address will serve you good.
It's because of consumer protection law in UK, that you can return the product and get full refund if needed.
xela333
2 Apr 16 #12

The comment about flash drives proves you really don't know what you're talking about. Plus novatech has a land address and store, in Portsmouth. I go all the tinge
Nexusfifth
2 Apr 16 1 #13
And you have had a bad experience so you think they are bad. It is actually very useful to get opinions from various people as that is the only way to get a real picture.

I myself have only had great experience with them and the fact no one came to your support, as people having bad experience are usually more vocal I would say they are ok.

About resticking labels and stuff, I would say it is possible they got the stuff from bad supplier themselves so we're not aware, I find it hard to believe they wouldn't exchange refund in your case...
Nexusfifth
2 Apr 16 1 #14
Whose comment about flash drives?

What he is saying is that if you go to store you lose a lot of legal protection, as in some sense you have had a chance to see and possibly even test the product you are buying. If say you want to return the item you are dependent on good will/policy of the store. Even if it is faulty you are not guaranteed a replacement (but they have a chance to try and fix it).

Buying online offers you a lot of protection, for example 14 days of returns without any question (you do need to pay the return postage if it is not faulty).

Having physical stores plays no role whatsoever in this, if you order from JL online the distance selling regulations apply, if you go to the store they don't.
huangxq2
2 Apr 16 #15
It is useful to get different opinions from different people. That is exactly my point. Why is my comment nonsense other than different from his/her?You do not see me call him nonsense.

Of course I got my refund, that does not means what they have done in the 1st place is correct. That is the first time I have personally experience a seller go so for to fake something in the UK. It is totally unethical.
huangxq2
2 Apr 16 1 #16
The point system still make sense. John Lewis has better services than Currys, therefore it has better reviews. The stars are low most likely because people had bad experience tend to go out and write a review, compare to people who just received a normal services with no problems.

I would like to think people who write reviews are actually from their experience, rather than faking it for whatever purpose. I would trust their reviews as come from their heart, unless I notice something not making sense. I think that apply to all reviews.

What I received from Novetech, they were totally faking it. Therefore, I will not touch them ever.

How do you know if reviewcentre is less good than any other review sites?

The big review site I do not trust at all is Trustpilot. It is controlled, but controlled by the sellers who pay trustpilot a premium. That is why a lot of not good sellers all got over 9 stars review on Trustpilot because the sellers can delete any posts. I will not trust such "controlled" site.
Nexusfifth
2 Apr 16 1 #18
I agree about trustpilot, they are borderline scam. But they are useful if you can find bad reviews, they should definitely not be taken seriously if the seller only has good reviews.

About your site, I have never heard of them, (and I was asked by banggood to write them positive reviews on 20 major review sites for 1$ each, which I declined, and they didn't list it). I am not saying the site is bad but more that most people won't bother to put a good review, especially on a site they don't know much about, while people with bad experiences, like you, might go and search where they can put them, so it gets very biased.

While I agree with you that what they have done (although remember that they do not make those drives nor necessarily buy them straight from manufacturers so it might as well be they were scammed themselves) is not nice. But I don't see the reason for all the "bad blood". I mean I have bought stuff from various stores which came in faulty, used or something else, as long as I get my money back it wouldn't stop me ordering again and considering they took the responsibility to deal with a problem them self rather than outsourcing to me I am a bit grateful.

To be honest, people in UK are really spoiled by consumer law and responsible stores, which is a good thing. I might be more appreciative of this as where I come from if you tried to return such an item they would laugh at you, and after all it is absolutely possible you yourself have swapped the label and are scamming the store, - I am not saying you are, but you have no way of proving they are the ones who did it, same thing with "used items" being sold as new.
Rom
2 Apr 16 #19
I've bought things, not often admittedly, but going back many years from Novatech. I've had some minor problems a couple of times and they bent over backwards to help. I also know other people that have never had a problem with them and they have a pretty good rep on here as far as I know.
Your tale about a fake drive leaves me a little incredulous.
kunhadi
2 Apr 16 #20
I didn't say other reviewer sites are better. In fact I don't trust any of those stores reviewers. Maybe it's just me.

When doing online shopping, the way I check if a store is good or bad is by looking at their address.
If they have a land address and physical office then it is safe to buy online from them,
because you can "chase them up".

I am a bit paranoid with online store which doesn't have land address, its website might be based in Africa or some unsafe locations.

To double check their legitimacy I usually use scam adviser http://www.scamadviser.com/

Well nothing is perfect though, that's why I use Credit Card if in doubt.

I bought a 240gb intel the other day for £36 with the ebay deal. Will be interested to see how good it is.

You got me there, never thought to look for 240GB Intel SSDs when 20% offer was on. Checked for Samsung, Sandisk etc. Did buy some Kingston 8GB SE9 USB 2.0 Flash drives, 10 for £20 not bad from mymemory on ebay. They had 8x16GB for £25 too. A bit slow, but rock solid, and better than the newer model SE9v2 cheaper than the (half the size) Integral Fusion 3.0. Useful for bootable images.

That is why I felt so bad about what happened.

Bought a 2TB brand new HDD, DESKSTAR 7K4000 2TB SATA 3.5IN (that is per my order description). I was wondering because it is a quite old model, but thought they might have old stock, so did not hesitate.

When I receive the parcel, as I open the plastic hard drive bag, I instantly notice there was one white label stick over another white label on the HDD. So they just use similar font and format print out a fake label themselves on a sticky label, and stick over the original. Seal it in a hard drive plastic bag and sell as brand new.

I was speechless and disgusted with what happened.

You have not had bad experience with them does not mean I am not to be trusted, or my comment is nonsense.

I have used many sellers with only good experience too. There are people who reported bad experience with the same sellers. You do not see me go around and say their comment is nonsense or I think they are lying.

All you need to do initially was to tell your personal experience by saying you have bought from them many time and had good experience. There is completely no need to insult or discredit others.
Rom
2 Apr 16 #23
I think they made a mistake, they wouldn't risk their reputation on a cheap trick like that. But hey, don't let it stop you insulting or discrediting them.
huangxq2
2 Apr 16 #24
Yes, you will not stop me from telling the truth of what happened.

And you are welcome to tell your experience too. Just do not insult people without knowing any facts. The insulting is your thing, not mine.

If I needed a drive I would defenatly grab an Intel if competitively priced. I've got a 80gb 320 series that I bought back in 2011 (for lots of money!) It was in my desktop then laptop and now as the OS drive in the home server. Never missed a beat and disk check still records it at 99% OK.
CampGareth to GAVINLEWISHUKD

Seconding here with a pair of Intel 335s I've owned since 2011. One with 18TB written, the other with 35TB and that latter one is down to 99% life. Never given me any trouble though I am beginning to feel they're a little slow unfortunately :/
huangxq2
2 Apr 16 #29
Did the return you received come as sealed packaging?

The HDD with fake label is put in one of those hard drive bag and resealed when I received it.

It is hard to explain this as it was return and they did not check. Who did the reseal? If it was a return, it is more likely that Novatech resealed the return themselves.

And who give them the right to fake return as brand new? That is bad too. For return, they need to put refurbished in the title and description, sell at a discount. They have ebay account, they can use that to sell returns if do not want to put on their own website.

Either way, it cannot be explained away. When I called their customer service, told them what happened, and ask for return, the person over the phone did not give any reason, it more like been caught red-handed.

I have read other people's comment here that Novatech sells used as brand new as well. I am not the only one. So as some reviews said in the review site.

In another thread, I begin by telling the whole story, someone was saying he does not want to see the story.

If a comment is not enough, he could ask questions rather than straight saying nonsense. He has the opposite view, he only give out 5 words. Did I jump in and straight saying his view is nonsense?

Wanted some help here..

I have Dell XPS L502X and have 1 primary 720GB HD and 1 8GB SSD for caching.

I want to replace that 8GB SSD with either 160GB or 320GB SSD and make it primary, and the 720GB HD as secondary.

So, the question is can 8GB SSD be easyly replaced with higher SSD ? and then use is as primary ?

Cheers
GAVINLEWISHUKD to nimsh
2 Apr 16 #31
Not sure exactly what model you have but the standard one only has one drive. My guess would be you only have one drive and it's a hybrid drive.
If you look on your system and list what drive(s) you have and then we can help more.
huangxq2 to nimsh
2 Apr 16 #33
Are you sure you are not having a SSHD? If it is SSHD, you cannot replace the 8GB only.

You can replace the SSHD with a bigger SSD. Both your 8GB + 750GB will be gone.

I google SSD PM830 mSATA, can only see 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. I have not yet seen a SSD only 8GB.

Googled Dell XPS L502X, found the 750GB HDD version, could not see the 8GB SSD anywhere.

Do not know what is going on with your XPS. You might consider open the back and have a look to figure out.

720 GB HD is: WD7500BPKT-75PK

2 Apr 16 #34
Well it looks like the SSD could be of higher capacity and I see only 8GB for my use rest is used up for system cache ?

How can i then check the real disk details? Do i need to go in BIOS ?

many thanks
GAVINLEWISHUKD
2 Apr 16 #35
The data sheet suggests the smallest they did was 32gb. It was the 8gb that was strange.

But it seems just replacing the mSATA drive should not be an issue. But as we are not 100% sure I would open up the laptop and just check first before you order anything. It might be something that Dell had made for them alone that never went to the open market.
