you can get a genuine combo pack for c.17 quid. Its a Black and Triple colour system so won't be suitable for massive print runs. Non HP refils are much cheaper.

Signed up form instant ink today. I thought I would receive the ink within a couple of days however the confirmaion email says "You will receive a set of replacement HP Instant Ink cartridges in about 10 business days." Does it really take so long to receive the ink?

? I assume you're pulling the odd leg, but on the assumption you're not, the minimum you'll pay on that scheme is 2.7p per page, assuming you use exactly your allowance. I suspect most people's usage will vary quite a bit so expect anything from 5 to 10p per page or more, hardly a bargain!

I think you guys/gals get a bit carried away with this ink thing! This is a 30 quid printer/scannercopier which will do everything the average household needs moderately well. Its actually cheaper than many combo ink refil sets!
Its only a bargain for the light user, but that fits me and many others.

How on earth did you calculate 2.7p???

Great price. I got a photosmart b110 and the 364xl cartridges are only ~£4 delivered for a set on eBay. If you plan to use it for printing cartridge cost is worth considering.

just bought one last week with the sale of 20% on ebay for £36 and also had one in my work place from long time. the printer is good but as estated above not for massive printing. have some heat!

The frequent printing plan is £8 per month for 300 pages per month, i.e. 2.7p per page, with each additional page costing 4p. The occasional printing plan is £2 per month for 50 pages - 4p per page, with each additional page just under 7p each. This assumes you're using your plan fully each month of course.... if you don't your per page cost will be higher.

The instant ink does not give a new refill every month. Your first cartridges are XL ones and not like those you buy elsewhere, they must be returned to HP after use. HP only replaces them once it is notified that you have used all the ink up so you may just get one cartridge per year if on the smaller plan and more often if printing more. Last month I had no internet and the printer sent no data to HP so when my Invoice came I was not charged this month. Might catch up with me next month now I am back on the internet waiting to see what happens. It is possible to carry over a certain amount of printing if you dont use it all in one month.

The way I look at it is..

I was buying 6 normal size cartridges a year at £18 per twin pack (total £54), 50 pages a month was still normal.

If I pay just £1.99 a month on the instant ink program, it will only cost me £23.88.

Plus I have 4 months FREE.

I'm not saying people can't save money on the instant ink system, you went from around 9p per page to 4-5p per page, but just that it's not a bargain as printing goes - HP Officejet Pro 8100 works out around 1p per page for b+w for example.

If however you're only printing A4 full colour photos, then fill your boots! :smile:

If you print a lot of photos, this is where you will see the saving, I will be saving around £30.

If you buy the standard size HP cartridges at £18 per twin pack, you are going to go through more ink when printing photos on photo paper (one photo still counts as one page). You end up buying more cartridges, which costs you more in the long run.

When opting into the instant ink program, you get sent XL cartridges. You still use the same amount of ink on glossy photo paper when printing a photo, one sheet still counts as one page. But! I am not spending £18 a time for twin packs, I'm only spending £1.99 per month and can still print the same amount of photos, and regular text B&W's.

Is this a good printer?

Had one for a year or so now. Been rock solid but just gets used to print off the odd boarding pass / children's homework. At £30 you really cannot go wrong!
