Hi, I needed a black 301 cartridge urgently so was looking at high street shops to see if anyone could get close to amazon prices.
Argos sell it for £8.29 (cheapest on Amazon is £8.28).
They have an offer at the moment of my one get one half price which works out very cheap for the 301s. The deal also applies to other selected HP lines including 301XLs but as their base cost is higher (compared to Amazon) it's not as much of a bargain.

these cartridges are disgusting, they meant to last over 200 sheets, don't last period. voting on hot price not product.

Do you have a link to the Amazon alternative you mentioned?
this would be the cheapest option. I once picked one up for £6+ on Amazon .
these inks are very expensive, so I gave my printer back to Argos as I purchased a 3 year warranty then bought the Richo dublex printer with a free 1000 page colour tonner posted here £39.99 from Amazon!

Has anyone tried the refurb/refills sold by traders on either Amazon or EBay? They are of course significantly cheaper but I wonder what quality and comparability is like. Experiences?

I use them now, haven't bought HP for three years or more. Haven't noticed any difference apart from the printer telling me it can't monitor ink levels - no need as the cartridges are transparent so I can see how much ink is left.

Title is misleading .. The XL cost is £21.99 and should be added.

I agree...these don't even last 50 pages. I had to use 3 of these to complete a job. Eventually fell back to a self refill kit.

Meh. I just buy genuine cartridges that are a bit out of date but still sealed to get cheap ink. Never had one fail me yet. Expiry dates on ink cartridges are generally tosh anyway, storage does matter, but kept in a drawer for a few years is no big deal. Just another con to get you to replace perfectly good ink cartridges.

Where do you go to buy out of date cartridges?

I just buy compatible cartridges from my Canon - 40 or so cartridges (8 sets) for around £12. People often try to save £20 on a printer but don't realise all the money is about the inks.
Anyway my point is I've never had a problem with compatibles and would honestly recommend them over genuine

BTW save your empty / used Cartridges for selling on as a bundle on ebay. search eBay sold items particularly for "empty hp 301 Ink" and see they get anywhere up to £3/£3.50 per empty cartridge used! as Alan Partridge says - cash back!

What's the value in empty cartridges? I have two empties that I was going to get green clubcard points on but might try ebay instead now. Just want to know why people would want to buy them.

These don't last a fortnight, I get the ASDA compatibles and the last for months, works out way cheaper, send the empties back to the recycling factory free post and get even more money back!

Thanks. Is it possible for anyone to refill theirs? Could I just buy some refill ink and put it in or is it quite complex?
