On Xbox the game ID is the same regardless of disc or digital. For some reason on PS4 they are different and have different save files. Really silly oversight on Sonys part in my opinion.

trying to follow your guide on how to get gta at the reduced price but it's not showing :disappointed:
Downloaded the dlc through a web browser though. Do you think that may be the problem and that it needs installing?
How did you do it?

Nice, tempted! Been waiting for a decent price on console but picked up the pc version for £15 a couple months back. I've barely touched it though, much rather play on console for achievements and friends.

I see loads of deals like this. Legally, I don't mind see a problem as you are paying for the content. Where do you stand with Microsoft? Are they likely to issue any bans or deactivate the digital content?
EmperorRosko to thearbiter65
13 Apr 161#27
I can't see Microsoft even noticing unless loads of people are registered to the same address. From Microsofts point of view, they will just see a legit purchase from a Colombian IP address and paying the correct price in that region which they have set.
I can't see Microsoft caring at all since in their eyes they are getting the amount of money they have asked for in that region.
It's the UK tax office that will be pee'd off as they are losing the VAT from every sale made. But it's whether anyone even notices or reports the sales to the tax office.
The way I see it is yeah, I'm breaking rules somewhere, but the worst Microsoft could do is block any games bought outside of my region in the future maybe, but first they would have to call me up and prove that I wasn't in Colombia at that moment in time, and how are they going to that? I doubt they even have the resources to check every purchase going through their systems as there'll be millions from all over the world.

just be aware that your game save and character wont transfer over from disk to digital and you'll have to start again.
bluenotesmiley

Are you sure about that?
paulj48
13 Apr 16#18
100% definite on a PS4 version as I did exactly the same, sold my disk version and bought a Canadian digital version in the sale a few months ago. I'm guessing it will be the same on Xbox One as it'll be a developer decision rather than a Sony or Microsoft decision.

13 Apr 16#19
no its a Sony decision as there console is region free but the profiles ain't.

i'm pretty sure sony did that on purpose to stop people buying games from cheaper regions... they want you to buy the games from your region rather than from some third world countrys region... thats how they make money.. so if it makes it awkward it will put some people off is what they are thinking.. yes?
glad i dont have to deal with sony anymore really.
bluenotesmiley
13 Apr 16#28
No I'm saying that if you have a disc and buy the digital version from the same region, they are different IDs. At least in the case of the games I've had.

Agree they aren't going to waste time doing that instead they would just ban anyone they thought might have done that. Haven't Microsoft and Sony done this sorry of thing before?
It may well have been bought from an IP address in that country but the game will be played with a UK IP address so not exactly difficult to spot if they wanted to. I'm not saying they would, just that they could.
Claydon94
14 Apr 16#39
they need to actually discount this on the UK store instead of posting it in every sale for a still too high price.... if they put it at £20 there wouldn't be a single Xbox user that wouldn't be at the very least tempted.

14 Apr 16#41
Nah they won't ban anyone, the xbox one is region free and therefore I can't see them having any kind of real time software looking for content bought in a region and where it's played, because why would they bother?
If you think of all the people who do this in UK, they wouldn't buy the amount of digital content from the UK if this wasn't an option. They would most likely buy retail and trade in. Microsoft will get more cash from selling digital in all of these regions rather than zero cash at all when a pre owned game is bought, so I can imagine Microsoft would turn a blind eye even if they knew it was going on.
That might be me and wishful thinking but I have around 40 games on my Xbox account and about 75% are from other regions and I've not had anything from Microsoft warning me.

Just got this from the UK store for around £27, it's still cheaper than pretty much everywhere else UK based and saved me the ball ache of setting up a VPN and international card payment option. I know most on here would have nightmares at the thought of spending an extra £8 but for a hassle free download it's an OK alternative. Heat nonetheless for the good find! :man:

This wasn't the case, I was connected to the Columbian VPN from VyperVPN. The Microsoft rep (yes I ended up contacting them as I can now no longer purchase from any market) mentioned it was because of rapid address switching.
