I am really happy with this case, it is quiet as far as i can tell. And I love the window, but im not sure why.
Theres some novelty in being able to see the fans spinning round. And it makes you keep the cables tidy
This is an awesome case and very quiet. Typically, I just bought it about 3 weeks ago full price on amazon....

how quiet is the quiet?... sorry it may sound silly to some.. but this is designed for quiet.. does it come with sound dampening mats?.. quiet noise fans..

Several things make it almost silent;
1. It weighs a flippin' ton!! (Really dense materials so no vibration)
2. Sound dampening material on all panels.
3. Large fan mountings to use slower large fans.
4. Rubber mountings for every device.
As a guide on how quiet this is, I have it in my bedroom on 24x7, and the only time I can hear it is when I'm playing games (and it gets a bit warmer). If I remember correctly, it comes with two almost silent fans, and I added a third. I also bought a higher rating PSU than I need, just so it could run without the fan being on.
I think the windowless version (the one I have) is slightly quieter, but this isn't far off.

I own this, Yes the case fans are silent on the lowest settings - there is a three speed switcher in the front of the case. Medium speed mostly inaudible, high speed audible but not offensive, it's quite a nice tone rather than a high pitched whine. However you need to make sure you don't ruin the quiet with noisy stock cpu fans or noisy gpu fans. It does come with sound insulation but I don't have the windowed version.

It comes with heavy (sound deadening material on both side panels (not if you buy a windowed version obviously), then on top there is more sound deadening material in the form of 3 square modular vents, each or all of these top vents can be removed to accommodate top fans, there is a single square modular vent on one side panel to add a side fan. The front door also has sound deadening material. It's a very quiet case if that's what your looking for, I paid £75 for mine before this offer and really like it, I stuck a Noctua NH-D15 air cooler in mine and for most of the time it's silent, I can hear the fans when gaming but they never get loud It really depends on the quality of your fans.

Got mine yesterday and switched my bits over during lunch - very impressed with it - probably larger and heavier than I was expecting, but building was a piece of cake, plenty of room to do everything, and even with all the cables untidied on the back side of the motherboard the side panel went on with no problems.

as mentioned, my build is based on 2 generation old budget bits, i'm perfectly happy with it but there may be better parts around now (the 750Ti will definitely have a more powerful equivalent, though seems you won't need a discrete GPU if you aren't gaming). if you are new to building either tear down some old unwanted PC and swap bits around and/or start with the fundamental bits - buying a good powersupply, a SSD and a nice case are all good investments as you can carry these over to the next thing you build. someone already mentioned the partpicker website which is handy, but for more up-to-date info on best hardware choices for your needs i'd read http://www.bit-tech.net and it's forums for great advice and guides.

Nice case but I'm looking for the XL R2 so I can fit my e-atx board. Bit worried about cooling capacity though, just checked and my computer pulls 600W from the wall when going at full whack (dual xeons + GPU) and idk if the case fans will be able to get heat out fast enough.

You can disable that, you know. Open up the Power Options bit in Control Panel, and you'll have an option there for choosing what the power button does. Set it to Do Nothing, and your cat will never bother you again.

I've had R4 for two years now, great and well built case with two minor bad points:
- Power button on top, DO NOT BUY IT if you own a cat, furry b***rd will switch off your PC in the middle of something. A lot.
- With hard drive mounted in the bottom caddy it vibrates a lot. My case is standing on soft carpet and I tried mounting disk in every possible slot, nothing helps. Either I'm unlucky or it's a design flaw but since most of my daily work & games are on SSD anyway I just set it HDD to sleep after 3 minutes.

Sorry if this been asked, I'm thinking of changing my casing:
1. Is there enough space for cable management at the other side of the panel? I could not fit my power supply cable though my current casing.
2. Will my current fan of 12mm fix into this case?
CouldntThinkOfAUsername to vllee76
5 Apr 161#62
Yeah, its got quite a bit of room for cable management, more than enough for even a bunch of thick cables. It's wide case so it'll fit pretty much everything. If you mean 12cm, it has holes for 120mm and 140mm.
Great case, I paid £85 3 years ago and haven't had a reason to upgrade.

Airflow and extendability. Given the right motherboards you could fit 3 graphics cards, many HDDs and liquid cooling, leaving enough space for the air to flow through and therefore keeping temperatures down (and the cooler it is, the slower the fans have to be).
@Coldo: Personally I'd go new (you never know how well cared for, or uncared for, a second hand PC is...). Older CPUs and Motherboards can by got quite cheap, so it's worth having a shop around and setting a budget. Also keep an eye on https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/ under completed builds - people post expensive and cheap builds all the time.

It's not even that big! Check out the Cooler Master Cosmos. Now THAT is a big tower. A friend has one. I'd never seen one and he mentioned his case was on the large side. I couldn't believe the size of it when I saw it. About the same size as a full size suitcase. I reckon I could almost curl up and fit inside the thing!
(But he's obviously filled it with cheap fans as it makes a hell of a racket as well where my R5 is practically silent)

around christmas i put together a pc based on the venerable g3258, a 750TI and a mini-ITX motherboard - it's able to play any current game i've tried at medium settings, is very low power/quiet and absolutely tiny - i re-used some bits but you could build one yourself for £300 from scratch - building is easy.
i'd not buy a 2nd hand complete one unless it's off someone you know - if it must be small-form i suspect you'd not even find any except ebay and frankly you are better off buying the parts (the bits i listed are very capable but pretty much 2 generations old now - you can get them super cheap from ebay if you want to take the risk). if it's not for gaming most modern processors (especially AMD ones) come with a fairly competent built-in graphics chip so you don't need a graphics card - with a SFF powersupply you'd have something the size of about 2 dvd cases placed side by side and perhaps 5 flat dvd cases tall.

I've got an R5 with a 980ti, 2 x case fans and a Noctua 140mm CPU cooler. Near as dammit silent as well. Excellent cases. It's a decent size so plenty room for airflow.
Not sure why the moaning about Scan either. Used them for years. Had my first ever problem with anything from them with the above system. GFX card (980ti) was DOA. Phoned them at around 3pm on a Saturday. Explained the problem. They sent me a replacement card via DPD next day. Had the replacement by 3pm on Sunday. They then collected and RMA'd the DOA card a couple of days later. Service seemed good to me.

Was thinking about this case for a new build. To pair with a fanless CPU Cooler and fanless power supply. Silence is key to this build. Have been attracted though by the ultra small Intel NUC style offerings, but some people say they can get loud, which is exactly what I don't want. A tiny PC would be sweet though. In 2 minds at the moment.
