My favourite FF game... perhaps controversial but I enjoyed it even more than 7.
Playing it again may spoil the memories.

Does this support modern resolutions? Anybody know if it will run 2560 x 1080 native? I can't be doing with super sized black bars each side of the screen.

Because this is something fans wanted and stressed for years on the FF forums. I have easily put in over 600 hours across the FF series but the majority of that is in FFIX as its my favourite by miles. I like to play through the game once or twice a year. Having these "optional" features is great .

Between Early 1996-2004 roughly Square Enix (or Soft back then) were just killing it! FF7, 8, 9 and 10. Vagrant Story, Chrono Cross, Parasite Eve series, Kingdom Hearts etc. How could they have come down so far :disappointed:

I guess it's hard to continuously produce games of that quality! That and squares obsession with trying to appeal to as many people as possible with its action rpg bullsht, played the ff15 demo and nearly fell asleep. I can only be pleasantly surprised by ff15 since my expectations are so low at this point.

Why does Square Enix think "no encounters mode" and high speed is something fans want? Skip or speed up most of the story?
Do kids these days have a shorter attention span?
Don't get me started with the FF7 character booster feature...

as someone who has just finished 7 on ps4 with the enhancements, 3x speed is glorious. makes grinding so much faster.

As someone who has recently finished IX on the Vita, let me tell you I would have cut off my right arm to increase the battle speed.
The encounter rate for IX is ridiculously high, with the battles being notoriously slow. At times it was like torture getting from screen to screen, both are good additions imo.
Don't get me wrong IX is my second favourite Final Fantasy games but both of those things needed looking at.

Its great and more importantly, optional. Nice for leveling up your characters and getting that blue magic which can be tedious. Once you've sufficiently grinded you can switch to no encounters and explore/enjoy the story for a while. FF7/8/9 were my childhood but random battles are archaic in this day and age, nice to have choice.

Absolutely, but first kisses are always the best. I can't remember which one it was I played later, 5 or 6 I think, but it had 2 player mode in battles which I had mega fun with at the time.

Honestly it's better to play on a PSX emulator with shaders & upscaling + AA. But worth a purchase if you want to show Squenix there's a market for a proper remake.

My only complaint about this Final Fantasy, is that the hardest enemy in the whole game is found, randomly in a bush!!!!?!?
Masterpiece of a game btw  In my opinion, its the last true Final Fantasy they ever made :man:

I love both of them and FF VIII but I agree that IX is the best of the bunch. Although XII on PS2 might be the best of them all.
It's all down to personal opinions. Let's just enjoy them all.

I don't doubt that it has legitimate reasons for the way people act over it, however I think the biggest reason it gets so much praise is because it's a lot of people's first exposure to a Final Fantasy game.

Unfortunately I disagree.
FFVII is my favourite closely followed by FFIX.
Both have very good storylines but I preferred the materia and weapon growth systems on VII.
Plus Limit Breaks are so much better than Trance.

I never understood the hype around FF7, it actually annoys me that people foam at the mouth about it so much. FFIX is a much better game.

Yeah I have a PAL FFIX on my PSN account, however, the 50hz refresh rate and black borders killed it for me.
The NTSC version is noticeably better (although the battles are considerably slower than other FF games)
I really want to do a Excalibur II run but without the option to skip cutscenes on the Vita it would be a nightmare. There's no chance I'd be able to do it on the mobile even with speed up - touchscreen controls are vile.

Purchased this for Android but couldn't cope with the on screen controls.
Reverted back to the NTSC Version on my Vita. Looks no way near as smooth but physical controls were a must.

£10.24 for roughly 42+ hours worth of content on a first time play through, I'd hardly say a rip off. The game was release today on PC. Fair enough you probably don't understand the game but this release has been asked for by thousands of people for years. It's for nostalgia purposes and people want it.
If you can find it any cheaper to support your "Rip Off" claim please do share, but I'm guessing you can't/won't from your previous deals, sorry deal.

I think a lot of it is FF VII and VIII were available on PC. The others (VI, IX) were PS1 only. I quite enjoyed FF VII and can talk about it because I played it. I heard good thing about IX but I can't play it (well, couldn't until today) so I can't talk about how good (or bad) it is

Yeah, I meant in terms of Final Fantasy fans. Critically, it's been received incredibly well, but a lot of FF fans always talk about VII, and never enough about VI or IX which are fantastic games!

I still have this on the PS1, but I'm very tempted to pick it up on the PC. FF IX is incredibly underrated, as I find it to be one of the best FF games. It had a great setting, a fantastical world and characters and a fairtytale story. In some ways, I find it better than VII, just because of the world.
So tempted to lose myself in this world again.
