Living in the same universe as The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead is a gritty drama that explores the onset of the undead apocalypse.
Set in a city where people come to bury their pasts, a mysterious outbreak threatens to disrupt what little stability schoolteachers Madison Clark and Travis Manawa have managed to assemble for their family. The pressure of blending their two families is put aside as their necessary survival takes hold, and they must either reinvent themselves or embrace their darker histories.

The walking dead is basically Eastenders with zombies, I gave up on it but am trying to get back into it, my god it's so dull at times....

I love and watch anything Zombie, but this show is pathetic
what should've been a 21 episode exploration of the unravelling of society, basically became a family drama after 3 episodes
bad actors, boring show... will still watch it tho godammit!

Ftwd has bored me senseless. buy no doubt I'll still watch season two.
I'm not happy at the mopey teenagers Alisha and Chris. Nick the druggy is the best. He keeps saving everybody

Fear The Walking Dead season 1 suffered a major omission through most of its episodes, namely zombies. The first 5 episodes barely had any (one episode even had *none*) and it wasn't until the 6th and final episode that we finally saw a "gaggle of zombies". 14 quid of dullness except for one episode is not good value here. Note that season 2 isn't shaping up to much either, unless you like stupid actions by characters on a boat of course.
Like another poster, I was really disappointed that FTWD didn't start right at the very beginning of the zombie epidemic (e.g. scientist breaks flask of virus, gets infected, covers it up and it starts to spread) - the same disappointment came over me with the 70's version of "Survivors" but at least that show's opening sequence showed stills of how the virus got out. FTWD kept saying "more states are infected" and yet there was no obvious increase in zombie levels for 5 of the 6 episodes as I said.
On a different show just raised by a poster, I've finally caught up to the latest Banshee episodes (was waiting for a logoless season 3) and it's done off the boil somewhat since the great seasons 1 and 2. As for sex in Banshee, there hasn't been a huge amount of it in seasons 3 and 4 compared to the first two seasons.

The last season of Banshee was really good especially the insane fight between Proctors hitman and the red indian girl. Got really annoyed they killed her off. Even worse they killed off Rebecca who was turning into a real psycho. Agree both TWD and FTWD are slow and ponderous. I watched season 1 of FTWD and got bored. Though the sex in Banshee may put some people off it.

Wicked series once you get it to it you start to put your self in the characters shoes and it really gets you thinking. Never been into zombie stuff but love this series.

I thought it was meant to be a prequel to TWD but if they napalm cities then it's not going to follow through (we've only just started watching it on prime, thanks for the spoiler alerts :disappointed: )

I hated it. I was expecting to see how the zombie apocalypse began. The collapse of a city of several million as opposed to the more rural location s of The Walking Dead. Instead you got teathered to a totally unlikeable family, watching their typically clichéd family angst. I swear it got to the point that my wife and I were itching for them to be ripped limb from limb by the zombie s, alas no such luck.
The whole thing seemed like a missed opportunity and despite the price I really couldn't recommend it for the six dour episodes that I watched. Of course this is only my opinion and I'm sure there are fans of it, but even they must have expected a bit more.

Big fan of TWD, but have struggled to get into this hasn't helped with the unlikeable lead characters to be honest.
i'd agree with the 5/10 comment above, has potential but is still stuck in 1st gear at the moment.

If people want to watch a proper show, where something actually happens/story progresses each episode then do yourself a favour and just watch Banshee.......

I got quite bored with TWD half-way through season 6... just found it got repetitive and none of the characters were likable anymore.
Do you think it's worth me trying FTWD?

Think they missed an opportunity to show the story from the viewpoint of people, hospitals, army and police etc. rather than focus on one group. I was looking to see how things unfolded and steadily got out of hand but it just seemed to become a poor walking dead in a few episodes..

It's really good. Especially the characters in episode 4-6.
You have to understand it's a different direction; this is about characters faced with the early stages of the outbreak when the Government tried to deny their was a pandemic.
It's slow burn and few action scenes. The drama and characterisation are very good though.

I thought season 1 was actually quite good. It's set in the same universe as The Walking Dead but it plays out differently. The lead female character is genuinely annoying but other than that it's very entertaining. That said I wouldn't pay more than a tenner for this.

To say there set around the same world some things aren't consistent, for example ,any cities got napalmed during the first few months, but in the walking dead the cities we have seen have all been intact. It's good tho just not on par with the walking dead

I would say it certainly isn't as strong as the 'walking dead' (which I did totally love).
However it certainly is very watchable and it got stronger as the series progressed.
I agree the female lead was a bit annoying; but for me this was more due to her dodgy script lines than her acting.
I think the best thing to do is, look at it as a completely stand alone series.
Don't try and link it to 'The walking dead' because you will just be disappointed.
A lot of the Zombie films out there have similarities and this is no different, especially when comparing it to the walking dead.
Within the zombie genre of films-series I would say it was in the top 50% of what's available and certainly worth getting for a general zombie fan.
But if you are getting it just because you liked the walking dead you may be a bit disappointed.

Not bad.
People seem to forget how slow the walking dead was in the first 2 seasons.
It's set during the time Rick was in a coma so its more based on people coming to terms with zombies (like Rick did in the first season and the Greene family in season 2) and the like as opposed to pure zombies.

Obviously not Blu-ray quality and you get to keep the disc, but if you just want to watch the series, then a month of prime at £7.99 is good value.

A group of passengers experience the outbreak aboard a commercial plane.
Watch this mini-series before season 2 of FTWD.
