I used to love these game back in the 90's but be warned..... they have not aged well!

You only get 1 chance to make a first impression. I fear the nostalgia will be tainted if I play this again.
...I remember playing WC2 on Amiga CD32 (missed 1), I wasted hours and sometimes run out of fuel...then somebody told me about flaming autopilot!

It could be the SLI causing problems, as SLI requires a game-specific profile which has not been made yet for SC.
Try running it on a single card.
(I get reasonable results on my i7 4770K with twin 780Ti's when not running SLI)
PS that "Free Fly" week has begun. The available parts of Star Citizen can be played for free until the 22nd.

You need a monster PC for Star Citizen, runs quite poorly on my i7 6700K and SLI 780's
Runs much better for a friend with a 980ti so maybe it just doesn't play nice with SLI

I remember installing WC2 on my 386SX. It came on a stack of floppy discs and took about an hour. Good times.

Wing Commander was the brainchild of Chris Roberts, the creator of its spiritual successor, Star Citizen.
Star Citizen will be having a "Free Fly" week from later this evening (Friday), where you can try before you buy (WARNING! 26-30GB download!)

Are Wing Commander: Privateer and Privateer 2: The Darkening included in the discount?

this is the kind of deal that I can't understand. I still can't rationalise the reason for someone to play this game (very old looking graphic), let alone willing to spend money to buy it

Has this expired?
Looks like they are £4.29 each to me!

Armada is the best one. Armada mode in 2 player is fantastic.

Just a word of caution. A while ago I got WC 3 (or was it 4?) for free on Origin and the joystick configuration didn't work at all. Expect to spend a while trying to figure out how to configure it and don't rage if it's not possible.

WCIV is worth the price alone. Great movie. Great game.
