Stayed here recently in an exec room. Nice hotel, small gym but with instructors and free classes. Decent pool/sauna/hydro pool. Restaurant was good too.

If using this deal the park and ride for the trams is only about a mile away. There is no point taking a car into Edinburgh parking is nigh on impossible.

Not sure what you're on about there. Parking in Edinburgh is easier than most cities i've visited in the UK? Add the fact you can use Ring Go to pay for your parking on your phone - i've never struggled finding a spot or parking garage. If you only want to see Princes Street then by all means use the tram, otherwise - you'll be needing your car.

Thank god they have flat-screen TVs. Too many hotels nowadays have CRTs.

You can stay at a good b&b ( admittedly no spa, but who would use it, your in Edinburgh !) for less near the centre if you book earlyish and dont trust the deals, I tried booking the Village hotel in Edinburgh with buyagift last week and guess what, the deal was not valid for any date I asked for ( even into October! weekdays as well) they use the excuse, well Edinburgh is popular ! good luck, you may be lucky as out of town.

You don't need a car in central Edinburgh. Using the car in the city centre is do-able, but not very practical. I live and work there.
The Norton is an old school country house type place. Typical wedding venue type place (I've been to a couple there). But you are out of Edinburgh. Never mind the centre. You are past the suburbs, and the bypass (our noddy ring road equivalent of the M25)! Close to the airport though.
Not sure about transport into the centre from there? The airport bus is fast and frequent but doesn't go directly past it. Think the same is true of the tram? I've only been there for weddings but always taxi'd it in and out.
Personally, I would say drive part way into the city and dump the car and grab the 100 (airport) bus. If you use the airport bus within the city, you don't have to pay the full airport fare (which is a lot more expensive).
You could *almost* get two nights in a double room in my dad's old B&B (which is now an organic eco-B&B) for about the same price as this. (It comes in about the same price as the exec room deal) It's about 15 minutes walks from the city centre in the heart of the east end of town. (And has numerous pubs within stumbling distance .... the Norton only has the - expensive - in house bars. There is NOTHING else out there!)

this is a completely different concept mate from your dads b&b ! some folks want to indulge in a wee bit of wet play in the swimming pool and the saunas , little touch of luxury with the missus! yes it is on the outskirts but not that far .Fire the motor along to the gyle shopping centre about a mile away with free parking and jump on the train or tram .simples .

Well obviously (also "former" .... he no longer owns and runs it). I was simply making the point that if you want a base to explore Edinburgh from, the Norton is less than ideal.
However ...
Remind me never to get in the pool after you and your missus if I happen to end up in the same place as you! :man:

Perfect location for all you plane spotters out there being just off the centreline to Edinburgh Airport. Easiest way to get to the city centre is......buy a £4.00 day ticket from the driver of the number 20 bus that operates every 30/ 40 minutes then get off at Gogarburn bus stop next to RBS headquarters then jump on the tram in to the city centre.Easy. If you are arriving by air the location is awkward and best save hassle jump in a cab at the airport.
