Loadouts, super shotgun more effective than the rocket launcher, no 'best guns scattered around the map', dudebro taunts and end of round dancing crap, another generic shooter with demons which is a shame iD Bethesda had to resort to this as I was looking forward to it.If it was made by Activision it would be called 'Call of Duty : Demon Warfare'. And to put the nail in the coffin in terms of ps4 sales, it releases a few days after Uncharted 4!

Such a poor game from the MP beta.
I know its not meant to be Destiny, CoD or Battlefield, but the graphics look like they were done in 2009, the gameplay is basically Quake 3 and Unreal mashed together with some Destiny-esque loot and emotes thrown in but it just felt like a FTP game, not a AAA title. Maybe the single player will be decent for those wanting the nostalgia value. I bet this is will be discounted to high heaven within weeks of release.

Doom is already established within the gaming community, it doesn't need "updating" with generic loadouts and dudebro taunts and dancing crap akin to the type found in halo 5 and black ops 3, by doing this the multiplayer loses it's identity and becomes just "another shooter".

Disagree entirely, games need to establish themselves, doom is established but needed updating - in doing so, people like you are confusing this for 'ripping off' other games. Doom came first, it paved many of these games you suggest its trying to be. The updates in my opinion are overall very welcome! Without the additions, the game would too bare. Quake live is a great example of this. I hope this game does well and loses this negativity that is being generated by people that think its not original... Just enjoy gaming people. RANT OVER. See some of you in-game on May 13th

The games these days live and die by the Beta/Demo, it's to stir up the pre-orders for it. Star Wars Battlefront was a huge beta, as was Tom Clancys The Division. The beta made them successful. This, however, was deleted off my Hard Drive in minutes, and I've still got 560gb free, and thought it a waste. I wouldn't part with a penny for this, and I played the Original Doom to death.

I cancelled my pre order because of how disappointed I was with the beta. this will fail because it is not what people wanted. The general opinion is obvious. sure a few people enjoy it and that is fain enough. But overall, the fan base hate what has been presented to them. I just redownloaded doom and the brutal mod and I'm going to get back on with that with my mates.

Cod wannabe? There would be no Cod if it was not for iD who made this game. This is the engine Cod will want to buy. This is quake. This is John Caramack. This has dedicated servers so game play is fair. Not unfair rubbish P2p servers like cod and destiny. This is the ultimate fair competition game on next gen. It will evolve into something massive if we let it. 1v1 dedicated servers and maps will come from this (like quake 3)if it is a success. Rocket arena also springs to mind. It will rule all if we let it.

Not really, most new releases can be picked up for £35-ish if you shop around. And £32 certainly isn't common for this game, hence this deal going so hot.

However I will not be buying this on release as originally planned after playing the beta. Main issues for me was the sound design or lack of. You ideally need meshuggah playing behind the levels. At least I felt anyway. Music was pretty much non existent. Also it was hard to tell when I was being shot at. No gun sounds or any sort of vibrational feedback.
When it is down a bit ill pick it up for the single player. Maybe mp if they've ironed out the issues

19 Apr 16#46
Doom has always traditionally been a single player game and thus all the creative energy has gone into that side of things. I was under the impression that the Beta was multiplayer only? It was also a multiplayer that was written by a 3rd party and not ID software which basically says we don't care too much about the multiplayer side of things which is great to hear for a change for those of us that don't give a flying **** about multiplayer. So how can you decide whether a game is any good or not when you've not actually seen the best part of it?
Zafir
19 Apr 161#45
But I think it's utterly stupid to compare it to Halo or CoD because of those aspects. They're just modern day shooter aspects, and I don't think they're really respective of a single shooter.
For better, or for worse, it feels like they took Quake 3 Arena as a base, added loadouts, lowered the ttk slightly(still faster than Halo or whatever though) and tried to make it more accessible. It doesn't feel like some CoD or Halo clone or copy which is what many here seem to be suggesting.
The technical issues(animations, weight, impact etc) are a big problem at the moment though, definitely. And yeah, the revenant should go, it was ridiculously over powered in the closed beta, and I guess they haven't done anything to fix that for the open beta(not played it). More over, their DLC model will put people off.

I think you will probably like it. Has that old Doom feel to it. I can see this being similar to that of wolvenstein new order was to the original. That was a great game. But I am just hoping the single player lives up to it. There are some quality single player game play on YouTube that showcase some epic weapons. Chainsaw etc.
JimbQ
19 Apr 163#33
I dont understand how people are comparing the game to Halo and Call of Duty... it's nothing like either. How it controls, how it looks. To me it feels and plays like a throwback to the Unreal Tournament days, and although I can't say for how long it will last, for some time at least it should bring back some great nostalgia. Although this is a good price now compared to other websites, like a few others here, I do think it won't be long after release until the price begins to drop even further.
Eitherway, heat added, as this is a good deal.
SDLiam to JimbQ
19 Apr 162#40
It's being compared because of the two gun loadout system, slower gameplay and lack of technical aspects found in arena shooters.
No longer is it a rush to the best guns and to control parts of the maps for armour, health, weapon spawns but is now a go out and kill first thing you see and gone are the fluid like motions. Instead it feels very glidy with little to no weight on weapons and bullet damage as well as a complete lack of map domination. Also the demon thing is just op and not what anyone wanted.
As an arena game, it fails.

This game is awesome. Seen gameplay of campaign and multiplayer and it looks really top notch.
Considering how bad Halo 5 has been. This game is defo in it's own league backed up by a great Dev team unlike 343i (utter rubbish). Some people are not liking this game but get a hard-On over Halo 5? This game deserves credit where it's due.

I felt really let down by the multiplayer and feel as thought it was a very cheap and quick attempt at trying to add the multiplayer feature, and just hope they've put more effort into the campaign. Because of the beta, I am now not purchasing this game for launch until I see some proper content for the campaign - wouldn't bother playing the multiplayer at all. Just my personal opinion of course, but Doom is about the campaign and they should put all of their focus into this to make it amazing as there is a lot of hype over the game because of it iconic status from when we were growing up.

Played the Beta for about an hour, first game I found it a bit tricky given that I'm an avid Call of Duty fan and the controls are slightly different. By game no. 2 it was one of the easiest games I've played. For me it feels like a strange mash-up of Call of Duty and Halo.. although not necessarily a mash-up of the best bits, it's a fun game and with the right players in your lobby it can be really fast paced. Definitely interested to see what the campaign is like and some of the other multiplayer maps

A lot of the comments about how this game isn't like other current multiplayer games are actually increasing my anticipation for it.
I'm not really interested in multiplayer - I'm hoping for something akin to the original Doom experience: a focused, intense, fast-paced and simple FPS with great designs and straightforward gameplay.
If that makes for a bad multiplayer experience then that's a shame for people who enjoy that side of things, but everything I've seen from the campaign looks great so far.
