I personally didn't mind the beta. Sure, it's not classic Doom but I don't see how it could ever have been. I had no problems running it and it showed me enough to suggest the campaign, if done right, could be excellent.

It's getting an absolute pasting from people reviewing it on Steam. Apparently it's just a generic modern shooter with the Doom name slapped on it, rather than a throwback to the glory days ot the series. Which is exactly what Eurogamer said in their preview as well. Not surprised to see the key sites working hard to get money secured for it, with the apparent potential to be a huge flop that's half price after two weeks.
Unreal tournament if you dont like doom and its free

Something is missing from modern day FPS games. I found the Doom beta to be a massive disappointment, it was okay but nothing more. I wanted it to be fun like Halo 3 multiplayer used to be, damn that was a good game.

beta is a beta..streetfighter 5 was terrible during beta but a huge improvement for release....wait until game is released before judgement....price is good! much cheaper then consoles..and overall will be better then consoles

You say that yet most peoples PC hardware is garbage. Given witcher 3 runs at about 80 fps @ 1440p not even maxed out on my 980ti what sort of performance do you think people would be getting if the game looked like it did at e3 way back when.

Sounds a bit like snobbishness to me. At launch the Xbox was struggling for performance. But things have changed - have a look at rise of the tombraider or even the doom beta running on an Xbox one. You need a high end PC to properly beat what it puts out. And by properly I mean a significant increase in image quality and/or frame rate.
And don't start about game pads again, it's just dull. Many of my PC games are great on a game pad, even titanfall which is an FPS. But we usually have the choice to use whatever we want.
What does let PC gamers down is poor quality ports, where they just don't run right. Most of these problems are to do with the Windows Store releases at the moment.

it's a valid point, sure on PC you can choose to use mouse or gamepad, the point is the game design is influenced by the need to cater to console players who can only use gamepad.

I do find it funny people are slating the beta for reasons such as "you dont start the round gunless".
News flash; there will probably be game modes where you start gunless.
News flash; there will probably be game modes where damage is more one shot kill.
News flash; there will probably be more guns, 'Doom like' maps, game modes, etc
News flash; you've played a limited version of a final product they've kept much of under wraps.

The problem is that the game design and mechanics are all compromised to make it playable with a console controller.
slow speed, floaty physics, no advanced movement techniques, crap mouse response as it was developed for a gamepad, and so on.

Well it is really.
Games are be tuned down during development for consoles due to lack of performance and we PC gamers have to deal with the ports and the dumbed down quality.
There's no point mentioning price because in less than a year of owning a console you can easily spend more £ than the resolution it can put out

Whilst I don't agree with the shoddy remark about consoles he has a point. Games on PC have had to be diluted to fit the specs, gameplay style and demographic of casual console gamers. PC gamers are definitely getting short changed

Played the Beta and it seemed like its tailored for the COD generation with weapons chosen on loudouts not collected within the game. Shame, the weapons seemed all of a muchness as a result. Hope the single player has more on offer

I'm really on the fence about whether to buy this. Tried it first on my PC which is low spec (gtx 650ti) and it was terrible, barely playable. Tried it on the Xbox one and it ran at a proper frame rate and I enjoyed a few rounds. Now I've got a gtx 970 coming for the PC so it should run well, unless it's very badly optimised. £20 odd quid is a deal though for such a new game.

The sooner gaming industry starts making games tailored for PC and not shoddy Xbox/Playstation consoles the better. Beta on this game was poor. I hope come release date on May 13th it's better.

What's "shoddy" about an Xbox or PS4? They're both high quality hardware that punch way above their weight in performance. No match for a high end PC but at 1/3 the price, not really a fair comparison.

Loadouts, super shotgun being more effective than the rocket launcher, and end of round dancing, nuff said. Another generic shooter which is a shame as I was looking forward to this.

I mean I haven't played Black Ops 3, as I don't really care for Call of Duty at all these days, but unless they drastically changed how Call of Duty plays in Black Ops 3, it's nothing like Call of Duty. I don't even get the comparisons.
The only thing that is comparable is loadouts(which ever shooter has so I'm not sure why CoD is the comparison there) and kill streak bonuses. It's like calling every turn based rpg FInal Fantasy.

Hardcore fans are not a small subset of the community in this instance, and the wider audience in this case dislike Doom by the 62% Negative feed back on steam, creating an overall 'Mostly Negative' review (12,773 reviews).
The game itself is OK. It's not Doom by any means, it's not even calling itself Doom 4. It's unfair to gamers to call it Doom when the entire game could have simple been called "Call of Duty: Demon Hunter" and no one would have questioned it being doom.
There is no premise in the game that would make anyone say, yup, this is like doom. It's not. The game play is nothing like Doom, the weapon loads, the characters, the maps nothing at all. With the title of simply 'Doom' one expect a remakes of sorts. This is not people being overly critical of the game, it's what people expect when you slap on a franchise tag to a game that simply is not what people know and love.

The fact of the matter is, if they wanted it to appeal to a wider audience, they had no choice. Yeah, the hardcore fans loved the old mechanics, like starting with no weapons and it being super fast paced. The hardcore fans are a small subset of the community though. You can't only cater to the hardcore, just look at what happened to Street Fighter V. Street Fighter V will live on its hardcore FGC, but it's never going to be as big as SF used to be.
Honestly I thought it was kind of a nice modern twist of the old Quake 3 Arena when I tried the Closed Beta.
