Possibly one of the best lease deals I have seen. Top spec car. the Mrs has one on a lease and it drives around town really well. Loads of other prices for 10 and 15k miles as well for less than £90 a month! great short term lease.

Update - My girlfriend has 800 miles on hers and we are averaging 48mpg doing town and a road driving with the 1.2 engine

Standard features inc

• 17 inch diamond cut ‘Cross’ alloy wheels
• Front fog lights with cornering function
• Dark tinted rear windows
• Heated door mirrors
• Front arm rest
• Auto Pack – automatic air conditioning, automatic lights and windscreen wipers
• City Camera Pack – colour reversing camera, rear parking sensors
• Navigation and Hi-Fi Pack – eMyWay satellite navigation, Hi-Fi upgrade (6 speakers and ARKAMYS digital amplifier)

5,000 miles per year.

WoW, what an idiot statement! ..."the ugliest car since the Fiat Multipla"!??? What you (my common friend) fail to understand is that these cars offer something different, something away from the norm for one fleeting second from the" Ford Focus Eurobox supermini" and are just 'different'

I'm glad YOU don't get this car ...it's not for you because if it was never meant for you! The people that like this car don't need you to "get it"....they would rather you didn't like it!!! ...in fact they actually hate you! They don't want your opinion ...because you are irrelevant (and probably under educated) ...and a Carling drinker...

The people that buy this car would slay your your kind in a revolution.

Drives ok, steering a little sensitive at speed, only thing having an issue with is the boot sometimes comes up with a warning that it’s open and it don’t seem to open with the key fob
kaku_lala

How are you finding the ride - especially the steering handling?

I have the 1.2 puretech flair and have feeling that the steering gets very stiff at high speeds, so much that I struggle to keep the car in lane at high speeds (on a curvy single carriageway). The steering wheel gets really stiff at about 60 mph and above. It makes fine tuning really difficult and I have to zig zag from line to line.

I tried to deactivate ESP (traction control) but it gets activated at high speed. I am not sure if there are any other steering settings.

Also the 1.2 engine feels very tired.

The question is the question - but here's an example of what happened to somebody in Canada - and I assumne it would be similar here for those who don't adhere to lease contract: http://www.wheels.ca/news/dont-neglect-maintenance-on-leased-vehicle/
Besford
15 Apr 16 #295
Explain the point of your question and maybe someone can offer a proper answer.
jhw
15 Apr 16 #294
But the whole point of question is what would happen if someone didn't - because not doing so would void the warranty of the vehicle. I wouldn't have a lease car, so the question is purely academic. There must be cases where people haven't serviced cars to manufacturers specs - and surely it's treated as if you'd damaged the car, because resale values will be affected?
MA3STRO
15 Apr 16 #293
I emailed them when the offer was still on. No reply. If they had emailed me and advised me they were out of stock, I may have gone with something else. Getting no reply whatsoever does not really paint their customer service department in a good light.

So why not just do the right thing and get it serviced when it's due?
jhw
14 Apr 16 #291
I don't know. It need s servicing per schedule - and if you leave it 6 months past, to 18 months - I assume they'd charge you for one or add a penalty charge on top, for not adhering to lease conditions. If I knew I wouldn't ask - and seeing I don't have a lease contract to read, I can't find out

I think the key thing with the Cactus is it gets noticed, it gets people talking - not always in a good way but the fact that it stands out enough to generate conversations is great

If/when the next one of these come up at this price I think i'll bite. My current Clio is dying a slow, painful death.

There is a Cactus parked outside my work, been eyeing it up every day for the last couple of weeks. The look has really grown on me. In red, with the black "egg boxes".
dinoyoshi
14 Apr 16 #285
For the price that is a really good deal. On their website I also saw a Honda Civic offer a bit more but again very good price. At the end of the day this Citroen does look different but I think that is the statement here by having a really different looking car. There won't be an issue with any warranty issues as a) it is covered as the lease is over before 3 years, b) the warranty will cover it. If you want something different then there is no risk here so worth just tasting a different style car for once.

I believe the motoring industry has adopted the term "Crossover" for cars such as the Cactus, Peugeot 2008 etc.

I prefer the term "Hatchback on Stilts"
The Crew Designs
14 Apr 16 #283
Yeah we test drove a Juke - hated the look but thought I would try and I was not impressed at all. The Cactus was and is a far better car to drive and even the toys like the reversing camera in the Cactus is way better than the Juke. But most will go for the juke despite how ugly it is as its Nissan and Nissan are cool cars.

By the way I have owned a lot of Nissan cars from Micra to 200SX so I don't dislike them but in this comparison (in my opinion) the Catus wins
Chz
14 Apr 16 #282
I don't hate pretend SUVs - I said it's fine for what it is. I'm just not sure what else to call the segment the Juke and Cactus are in. "Hybrid" has been claimed by electric motors now, so it's not that.

I also make no comment on the desirability of the Avantime. But the fact is that it was a dismal failure and essentially ended in the winding down of Matra's automotive department. What I was trying to say in response to the original post is that the Cactus *isn't* particularly different. The Avantime certainly is.

It's certainly not a bad deal - and for some people, is definitely the better deal. But I just find Vauxhall's so uninspiring...and I'm guessing the fuel economy is markedly better on the Citroen?

I guess the good thing about these lease deals is that if you don't like the car, you are only stuck with it for 18 months . The Cactus has got some excellent reviews from the motoring press though...so I'd sooner take the savings and the better included mileage.

Most of your shopping list (£625 from a total of £820) has nothing to do with unreliability and everything to do with unavoidable costs (MOT, servicing - you could do it yourself if you were handy) and expected consumable wear (tyres and brake pads, aircon top up) leaving you with completely unexpected costs of £195 or less than a tenner a month in your ownership - I think you did well there!

Certainly a marmite car .

Regardless of the looks though Heat for the value .

As for the usual suspects with their "bag a banger" comments . Some people do not want to drive a 10 year old car that they have to take to the garage every minute . Some of us do not have the time or skills or motivation or space to take our cars apart every 5 minutes when something else has broken . Some of us can earn £30 an hour working overtime at work , Id sooner do another day at work every month and earn the leasing payment for something like this than have my 10 year old car in pieces every 2 weeks because something else has broken .

We bought a Cactus after having Jap cars and to be honest before buying we were a little apprehensive. But once we tried we bought one and love it. Brilliant to drive, very comftable and it uses hardly any fuel and no road tax to speak of what is there not to like.

We got an all black on with red bits so if you are not keen on the air bumps this colour looks fine as air bumps are hard to see and they work well.

I went from a coupe that did 0-60 in eight seconds to a BMW 3 series that did it in 11.5 seconds. I don't think 12.5 is all that bad for most situations. I do a lot of motorway miles every week and I barely get over 50mph due to roadworks so I don't really miss the extra acceleration.

Seems a reasonable deal, although 5K miles is a tad low. Losing £2.5k over 18 months is buttons in comparison to how much you lose in depreciation on most new cars over the same period.

I believe lease companies are getting quite picky on the condition of cars when they're handed back these days so make sure you look after it if you go this route.

MA3STRO to JohnOFarrell
13 Apr 16 #188
10,000 miles is only £64.20. This is still a great deal.

My Dad's new focus estate will probably drop more than £3,000 over the next 12 months and this car costs half that during the same period. Granted, they are two very different cars, but you'd see similar depreciation on most new cars, even those that are cheaper to buy.
n217970
13 Apr 16 #187
Brand new it of course doesn't but over 18 months it may do depending on mileage/driving conditions. And if that is the point its a poor one, even taking the consumables into account he spent a total of £930. The key imformation being missed is what did he sell the car for? When a car reaches that age/value deprication is all but over, unless he was ripped off when buying it (judging by how much he pays for MOTs that may well be the case).

The point that I am making that you seem to have missed is not that leasing is bad it is just not comparable to bangernomics as they suit two completely different conditions of motoring. Try comparing the leasing costs on a 20k MPA lease to a second-hand car.

Good deal. I've had quite a few Citroens over the years and they have been very reliable. It does seem a bit strange that there's not a better choice of side panel designs given that the fugly egg box design is meant to be easily replaceable. I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate a traditional flat or some alternative side panel that was cheap and easy to replace in the case of door dings.

since when has a brand new car needed new tyres/brakes/wheel alignment?

People seem to have missed the point of this original comment, the costs of owning an older passat add up to a similar loss incurred on this lease deal. This is where leasing becomes more cost effective as the bills on the passat could have been much greater.

n217970
13 Apr 16 #169
Servicing/tyres/brakes/wheel aligment would need doing on any car new or old so subtract that from your costs, You have also paid way way over the top for the MOTs, I get mine for £25 a go at a local Ford dealership! The pretty young thing behind the desk didn't even charge me for the retest last time - fancies me obviously.

So assuming a more reasonable £45 for each MOT you should have been looking at £300 for 20 months motoring which isn't bad in my book. Also since when was a Passat considered premium?

Lease vs second-hand debates as so stupid as different people have different circumstances. If I only did 10k miles a year I would have one but as I do a lot more than that and am reasonably handy with a spanner I have a 11 year old "banger" which has proven to be an extremely cheap way of motoring. It even gives about 20% better MPG then the newer supposedly more efficient car it replaced.

The 82 doesn't stand for 82hp, it's actually 80hp. Any way 80hp is fine for a car of this weight. Most 1.2 litre cars from 2005 (corsa, fabia, ibiza etc) have a fair bit less horse power and obviously can get well beyond motorway speeds.

Hidiously out of date in short order? I don't really think so but that's not an issue for an 18month lease deal now is it.

Citroen have a history of making fairly quirky and in time sometimes timeless cars. DS, CX yadda yadda

...and I would have an Avantime in a breath -considered a future classic that you can't buy now for much less than £5k (if you can get one) ...no brainer if you want a "different" car ...rather than "pretend" SUV juke you dislike so much.

...I'm not advocating the merits of a Juke btw -just said the shape has grown on me when I see them on the road ...like I say probably because they remind me of baja bugs and tit*ies.

No they don't. It's a bog standard pretend-SUV like the Nissan Juke. Whether or not the plastic is ugly is certainly down to personal taste, but from the few of them I've seen it still scratches up nicely in a car park. It's fine for what it is (though Citroen really overdid the "tech" interior - it's of questionable value and will be hideously out of date in short order), but don't pretend it offers something "different". That is a lot of time spent hanging around/driving back and forth/faffing about with a garage. For people who don't have the luxury of spending time making multiple visits to a garage, this is a very good deal. Plus you don't have to drive a stinky old diesel. Personal choice really and just because this used car worked for you, doesn't mean it will be for everyone else. There are loads of people who end up spending lots of money replacing worn out parts on a used car. For example if the suspension on your VW required replacing, that would be an enormous cost and significant proportion of time without a car. I couldn't afford that downtime.

Interestingly you have paid nearly 40% of the cost of this deal to drive an old diesel banger. Then calculate your time spent on getting all this work done, the added hassle etc etc and you have just confirmed the fact that owning an older car is riddled with lots of time spent in a garage!

might be a good price, but in 2014 I rented one in Spain and can easily say it is absolutely horrible to drive. we got the automatic and it was so Laggy and Jerky with the transmission. so off the traffic I would accelerate and the car would respond a second later with a massive delay thump as if I was riding with someone learning to use manual transmission. the delay between pressing the gas and actual start of acceleration is just dangerous. I could easily say it was the worst car I ever drove.

From What Car

Buy a car used car from a business over the internet and you're automatically covered by the Distance Selling Regulations. This gives you a seven-day cooling off period after you’ve taken delivery.

You're also covered if you place a deposit online and conclude the deal face to face. The Distance Selling Regulations don't cover you when buying privately, or if the car has been altered or personalised to your specifications.

If you pay a deposit using a credit card for an item worth between £100 and £30,000, your credit card provider becomes equally liable if the car fails to be delivered, is faulty or if the business goes bust.

I am looking at a lease and this car/cactus/thing has come up a few times now. Not looking for heavy use but 5k miles a year is 96 miles a week which seems hardly worth owning a car for. By the time you are insuring and paying petrol/parking you may as well get taxi's.

10k miles personal lease over 18 months works out at £144.20 per month (£2595.59 total)
15k miles personal lease over 18 months works out at £162.93 per month (£2932.74 total)

Those options would be affordable and give me enough miles. However I would not want to keep the car (see it as a long hire only) and main concern would be charges on any damage at the end of the lease. With this in mind it seems better to buy something second hand for £1500ish and use the savings from the lease cost to cover (at least some of the) insurance, tax. mot and such. If the second hand car dies after/around 18 months then just scrap it and have no worries about end of lease fees.

It would be nice to have a new car (for the first time ever) and not worry so much about reliability. BUT it would be annoying to pay out hundreds or thousands of pounds for a dealer to repair a car you are returning and never driving again...

That milage cost (example only) does not seem that troubling really.

Well I'm on the thoughts of firstly heat for the price, really it a box with wheels to go from A to B and at a good lease price so heat for that.
To own one of these cars for any "long-term" I'd pass. Dunno the current obsession with all this black plastic around the wheel arches never mind the egg carton on the outside. Let me explain a little. Cleaning will be horrendous, in a few years all that plastic will fade and look terrible, scratch the plastic and you are replacing not fixing like "normal" body work can be. Dread to think the cost of a "rip" or something in that egg carton on the outside. This below review does make me laugh though very well written.

Steering wheel Lack of reach adjustment promotes ghastly driving position with arms straighter than a Coldstream guard’s trouser seam and knees for earrings
Driver’s seat Bliss for the first eight seconds, then you shop for a cushion. A bizarre meld of boulder and blancmange combining little support with unsolicited intrusion
Pedal box Unnecessarily cramped, requiring feet bound in the manner of a 19th century Chinese courtesan to squeeze between clutch pedal and transmission tunnel in the quest for rest
Instrument binnacle Ugly, ill-matched graphics and precious little information. Speed, fuel, odometer and auto wiper notification. No rev counter, no temperature gauge and no joy
Driver’s door Steadfastly refuses to shut politely. Needs slamming at a velocity more usually reserved for the shoe of a Jehovah’s Witness
Centre armrest Pointless. So utterly obstructs gear changing that it was flipped up on day one and has stayed there ever since
Air vents Relocating glovebox removes passenger air vent. And no; enlarging the left-hand centre vent is not adequate air-supply recompense
Rear seats No junior comfort gripes, but the absence of a properly opening rear window in a four-door family car is daft
Centre console screen Not great looking, a tad stab-tastic and a pain in the **** having to access it for everything, even adjusting the air-conditioning
Glovebox Clever overhead airbag location facilitates neat solution. But the vacated space below? No extra storage, just a bland blanking plate
Door armrest Actually matches the seat upholstery. Easily the most comfortable part of the interior. If only one could drive whilst sitting on it

There’s little overall cohesion. The steamer trunk styling of the glove box and attendant luggage handle door-pulls constitute less a theme for the interior than a mere guest appearance, whilst, from a graphics perspective, the two screens are distant cousins at best. Worse, at the most basic level of ergonomics, the front seats look comfortable, but aren’t, and the driving position is succinctly pigeonholed by the missus as ‘Hideously uncomfortable’.

But then again before anyone says already from the picture. I drive an Alfa and will be waving at you from the hard shoulder broke down (well we like to keep that going so less people buy them lol.

Tata could not make British steel pay, losing a reported 2.5m a day in Wales. Bear in mind they are extremely well placed and vertically integrated with auto making etc... that is a staggering figure.

We are one discontented member of the EU, (something that may soon change) out of 28. 28 members that are constantly squabbling and that only ever act out of self interest (ironically like you suggest) We cannot expect no support at all from it and it does not hold anywhere near the sway of the well aligned trade monoliths that are China and US. The WTO is a joke and has little power.

The only hope British steel has is a government subsidy for energy costs, otherwise it is completely and utterly hopeless. The product of no competition and over unionized work force constantly demanding "better pay and conditions". I don't like it anymore than you but the economic reality is that British steel is doomed.

Anyway....heat!

We are part of the EU. We are therefore well able to work the system to ensure that like for like tariffs are added to ALL steel imported into the EU....or better still, use the mechanisms available to us (EU trade commission, WTO etc) to force America and China to drop their anti-competitive ways.

The US and China can't afford to **** off the EU. We are the world's biggest economic bloc - and if we decide to get into trade wars, it'll be the other areas of the world that will lose out to a greater degree.

But to go back to your original contention - British steel is not unviable. It simply needs to be supported until the government/EU gets a proper response together to defend EU steelmakers.

And after criticizing me for my honest opinion on this car you come out with this juvenile comment?I think one of these cars would make you more attractive,go buy one straight away....for the grown ups on here I havent voted either way,but I wont be swapping my current car for a cactus for any citroen.
Tyranicus66
13 Apr 16 1 #97
So to make British Steel viable we just need to make China and the US do as we please. Sounds about as non viable as it gets to me!
wenttoabetterplace
13 Apr 16 2 #96
Funny how people talk down British industry when they (you) have no apparent grasp of the facts.

Here are the facts for you. The US is imposing prohibitive trade tariffs on ALL steel imports into the US. China is providing extensive state support for their own steel industry...and selling their steel at a loss to drive out the competition elsewhere in the world.

British steelmaking is not uncompetitive. It is not unviable. It is simply unable to compete on the world stage when the US and China are behaving in such a manner.

You shouldnt judge people by their opinions,I get tickled by internet hardmen like yourself.I think you must have one of these terrible looking cars.IMO it is an exceptionally ugly car, thats my opinion and Im entitlled to it.I do drink carling sometimes..does that make me uneducated, a chav in your pathetic eyes? You are a nasty unattractive excuse for a human being.Im embarresed to be the same species as clowns like you..Go crawl back under your rock.

Psychologists call it the "contrast effect":
You feel prettier around ugly people and uglier around pretty people.
Similar to cars:
You feel prettier driving an ugly car, and uglier driving a pretty car.
So if you find this car ugly BUY IT & it will make you FEEL more attractive!.
There you go I should have been a car salesman.

Only problem is by trying avoid the car getting a possible unsightly ding the car constantly looks ugly from day one and it stands out a mile, where a small ding won't.

Hi
New to leasing so please go easy bare with me.
Really like this "marmite" car BTW
Is it just £64.20 or £11.10 a month more for 10,000K a year?...not much for double the mileage.
How much would auto transmission be please or has it got to be manual / 'what you are given' for "crazy prices" like this
Does the £1200 inc admin & RFL (just need to insure it as the leasing company as the owners)
Once the £1200 is paid is it 17 monthly payments or still 18?
very HOT by the way

There are some pretentious (b)ankers on this thread. This car gets great reviews, is fuel efficient, safe and cheap. It seems to tick all the boxes that many of us look for in a car...yet still the same old fools chime in with the same sorry rubbish.

If you don't like the look of this car, don't click on the deal. Its as simple as that.

For those of us that can see beyond the badge, this is a hot deal...and I've voted accordingly. Cheers OP

Huh? That seems a fair question to ask, just because you may already know the answer (or maybe you didn't even understand the question) there's no need to be hostile and damn rude.

I don't know what the repercussions would be if you didn't get the service done either. I'll *think* and guess at maybe a financial penalty when you return the car to the lease company, but I don't *know*, it seems jhw doesn't either which is why they politely asked if anyone else knew.

The auto's crap apparently, although the front bench seating arrangement with the jet fighter handbrake looks cool.

If this was for the 1.2 turbo, it would be a cracking deal.

Love mine, had it just over a year now.
Love the comfort - if you're used to BMW suspension this is like sitting in your favourite arm chair and soaks up bumps better than anything I've driven.
The 1.2 3cyl turbo is quick for its dinky little size, puts deezul tech to shame.

I can park in car parks and don't care if a rusty '98 nissan micra parks next to me with an old couple inside.

The touchscreen coolness has now work off, and its a bit of a faff trying to change temp settings when blasting along b roads. Isn't as fluid as an android tablet, although screen is easily readable even in bright sunshine.

No rev counter, but a bluetooth dongle and torque app solves it if you like to know where the redline is like I do.

18 months ago I'd have laughed if someone said I'd buy a new French car, been superb so far and changed my opinion on them (saying that, I don't think I'd stoop to buying a renault or peugeot though).

Definitely worth seeing this car in the flesh and up close to appreciate it.... yes it's a Citroen, yes it's quirky and I like it for both those reasons. I personally like the white/beige versions but the black looks good too.

That said I still can't get my head around these leasing deals, I know depreciation on a new car is huge but 18 months and over £2000 just feel like too much to me and I'd always be worried I was going to be knocked for hundreds more when it was returned.
