Yeah i noticed that from the pictures before buying. I remove them from my keyboards anyway as i occasionally hit them with my thumb when typing.

Was your keyboard nipple missing?

Mine arrived at the end of last week and so far its working perfect and exactly as described on the advert. Cant fault it really.

Hate the palmrest on the X220 and X230 series - complete pain in the ****, as it always seems to crack and when it does it's pretty bad as well. :disappointed:

Yup, the storage situation in the X220 is limiting to say the least. However, for what I need it for it is fine (64GB SATA SSD for light work, will replace soon with a 32GB mSATA for OSX and a 2.5" 500GB SSHD once I get round to replacing the dented palm rest).

Had one of these as my work laptop up until late last year. Ran like a dog, but that was down to the corporate bloatware my employer mandates on all our hardware. It's possible one of these is actually my old laptop :smiley:

Slap in 8Gb of RAM (if you're using an OS that can make use of it), and a 240Gb SSD and you've got a solid laptop for £210.

The handy thing for the 2560p range is the ease of maintenance access via the base panel but that you can easily install 2 x 2.5" HDDs/SSHDs/SSDs into them (both up to 9.5" in height), which also applies to the 2570p range (the next model up) - loath to say but for the X220 (which some of my family & friends still have) your limited to 1 x MSATA SSD and a 2.5" HDD/SSHD/SSD, which is restricted in height to 7".

Yes you can - if you check out this thread you'll find references to upgrades that people have carried out including Gen 2 i7 Quad Core CPUs.

These are very nice ex-business laptops. I have a Thinkpad X220 with the same specs (£64 needing extensive repairs) which now works brilliantly and is faster than the equivalent low-power i5 today.
These are 2011/2012 models. Resolution will be 1366p which is perfectly usable on a 12.5" screen. 80GB HDD a bit small - I'd stick in a SSD ASAP, but overall these are nice little laptops. Equiv. to Dell E6220 / E6320 and ThinkPad X220 / Edge X121e (iirc for the edge)

Can you upgrade the processor to an i7 on these?

I think it would depend upon the version of SharePoint you'd be using within the VMs and the amount of data you'd be running with them as well - bear in mind that this model come with an i5-2520m (Dual Core, with Threading) and only 4GB of RAM. At the very least you'd need to add more RAM and either a larger internal storage device/2nd HDD Caddy for storing the VMs on.

Also you might want to consider using an external screen, as your limited to a maximum of WXGA on the onboard LCD (it can't be upgraded from what I understand) and a USB-to-Ethernet Adapter for giving the VMs a dedicated port via the Virtualisation client you'd be using.

From what I've read the LCD can not be upgraded to be anything higher than that resolution using the internal screen - you can of course hook it up to an external screen to get a bigger screen resolution (either a direct connection or via a docking station).

I'm afraid I'm not sure, as most of my family and friends have been staying clear of Windows 10! :wink:

Windows 7 - dying OS

My understanding is they are but not the **60s - of course I'm not a hundred percent sure on that, as my experience with HP hardware is predominately server and storage based rather than desktops & laptops.

Aren't all the **70s whitelist-free? My 8470p is, I thought that was just a universal decision.

I have three of my cousins running with the HP 2570p EliteBooks - all three systems are running with Gen 3 i7 Quad Core CPUs and 16GB of RAM for they're respective university courses. For such a small system they are quite nice units and listed below is a link to a really good thread covering the 2570p model range...of course I don't like them myself as I'm a die hard IBM/Lenovo Fan (have maxed out T420 ThinkPad for my needs)! :smile:

For those considering going for the 2560p model range here's a couple of handy links for you to check out - they are relatively cheap to run & upgrade but the only catch is the lack of hardware whitelist removal I'm afraid.

PS - Both the 2560p and 2570p models can support 2 x 2.5" HDDs/SSHDs/SSDs with the use of a 2nd HDD Caddy - all three of my cousins have them, with 1TB SSD (running the OS & Virtual Machines) and a 2TB HDD (for data storage & backups).

I have one of these and while the metal lid is susceptible to small dings they still look great. I paid a lot more for my one that this :disappointed:

they have a 2510p for sale (several gens older) for £100 so this is good value. a little concerned that might have dents, but otherwise looks good (voted hot). def v. good, business-quality (compact) laptop.

I have this laptop but with ssd it flies very good laptop but one thing really annoys me it has two USB ports at the back left corner really awkward but not used that often I spose
