Came in handy the other day when my chain broke on my old mk2 blue raleigh grifter.
The Halfords Chain Rivet Tool works with most types of cycle chains with extract and refit rivets. This clever tool helps eliminate tight links in the chain to keep your bike running smoothly.

One of those things you never bother with until the day you really need to use it - after that you make sure you have it nearby at all times.

voted hot just used one the other day. now we just need a good deal for chain (so instead of regular cleaning the chain that is fitted keep swapping two of them over and THEN cleaning it properly)

why do you need two chains? just take one off, clean it, put it back on. Get a quick link and the job is much easier.

Yup, I remember those happy days...a half brick, a nail and the subsequent blue finger.

This is a really useful tool, but not particularly a good deal in that one can buy the same in lots of bargain shops (someone said above Poundland) for much the same price - hence no heat added by me.
It would be a good idea for everyone with a bike to have one of these, but saying that I can't remember the last time I had to split a chain (so either it was a long time ago or the dementia is setting in!).

This is probably the alloy version which you have to be careful with as it's easily broken

I don't personally, but I know a couple of chaps that rotate chains, and soak one in petrol whilst using the other one.
You get what you pay for with tools...my cheepo version is next to useless so have now purchased a decent Draper branded version...I always carry one with some replaceable links as I was caught out recently with a broken chain and last week I rescued another cyclist by repairing his chain with a new link.

This is only worth a quid, I guarantee it.
I want to see a report back from those who break this on the first use.
