It's not an earth-shattering deal as this film is 10 years old but my local store was selling the uncut version

Unfortunately they put the wrong disc into my copy (the censored 12-rated version instead of the uncut 15-rated version which is the one I bought)

Typical CEX. They did this with me last week with Pirates of the Caribbean

Is the uncut version the one where the baddie traps him in a chair with an open base so to whack him on his plums using a metal chain?

Tip. Always check disks before buying and if scratched they have to clean the disk for free. I do this all the time now and it's actually forced them to finally start checking disks as my local will no longer buy any disk with any scratches because I have made them clean over 100 disks so far.

Bet they all suddenly remember some urgent business in the stock room when they see you coming!

I went back and told them about it so they replaced it with the right disc. It shouldn't have happened in the first place but at least they did something about it

They said that they don't check whether the disc is the cut/uncut version before putting it in - that seems fair enough as it's rare for both the cut and uncut versions to be available on the same format (usually the extended cut only comes out on Blu-Ray)

I know it's only a quid but I'd rather buy new than risk getting a damaged (potentially dodgy) blu-ray :smirk:

You can easily tell the dodgy versions (which I've never seen sold at CEX) from the printing quality in the sleeve and on the disc itself. You can easily avoid getting a damaged one just by taking a look at the disc itself before your walk out the shop.
Does CEX have a national pricing policy? it seems unlikely, 'cos one shop could easily have a glut of a particular album/game/film/gadget/etc, and then CEX would reduce the price everywhere...

They don't have a stock room. Haha. They actually show me the disk now without me even asking, they got told off by the manager for not properly checking disks. CEX take the pi** by just not caring and buying any old dirty stuffy rubbish .... Well I've sorted my local one out for disks haha. Other people should do the same and always check the disks and ask them to resurface them if scratched.

Yes cex have a national pricing policy. All franchises have to abide by the pricing set by 'head office'
They have a 'regular transfer' system where any glut of stock is sent to their warehouse and then distributed to the other stores.

That scene was in the censored version too, but some subtle details were changed. The line "Such a waste" was removed, the shot of the rope swinging twice under the chair was reduced to one swing, and IIRC some more distant shots were substituted in.
I'm very surprised that the brutal bathroom fight didn't have to be changed at all for the cut version - that immediately strikes me as what should've been a 15-rated scene. That scene, as well as other violence throughout, had to be reduced in America to avoid an R rating and secure a PG-13, which is unusual as the MPAA are usually more tolerant of violence than the BBFC are.
You wouldn't notice the changes if they weren't pointed out, but as they were stocking both the cut and uncut versions at the same price, those few extra seconds are worth having to me.
(I went back and explained the situation, so they replaced it with the uncut disc - all was well in the end  )
