I think you're stuck in a loop Roy. Have you tried turning yourself off, and then on again?

No sorry I don't. A Google may find the answer. There's usually a fair few faulty ones for sale on eBay, anyone that knows what they're doing could probably fix them cheap enough. I just threw mine as I don't have a soldering iron.
If your router is happy, carry on what you're doing. Mine are left on for months at a time, maybe that's the difference.

Any idea which capacitors need replacing?
Both of the ones I had died, probably as you said as I kept turning them on and off.......Won't be doing that again with these things, I also do it with my router as its on a timer and turns off at night. Touch wood its not failed in over 2 years of doing that but may have to change that now I've read your comment.

no but the adapters are manufactured by BT and if they develop any problems you can forget about get any support from them.

Good price, I had one just randomly die on me after a year, but the other still works.

The old BT ones I had all died. They don't like being turned on and off, a bit like routers, you're better leaving them on all the time. If you know what you're doing with a soldering iron, you could probably fix them, I think it's the capacitors that blow.

Thank you. It was a while ago when I first got fibre, maybe they've improved since then.

As there's no software involved, I'm pretty sure you can mix and match these with other brands of powerline stuff, can anyone confirm?

It is better I have found to stick with the same brand for all your plugs
I'm on Virgin 70Mb. Using three Powerline adapters I get pretty constant 73Mbps download speeds on the adapter plugged in on the same circuit as the Hub adapter and I get around 55-65Mbps download speeds on the adapter downstairs, that's on a different circuit and plugged into an extension cable. Must admit I've had zero problems with mine when it comes to download speeds or reliability.

Thanks guys for all reply. So effectively the speed is not that different is my wireless device is fast enough.
I have fibre. In fact, my 5g speed is always 50MB anywhere in my house. For my wireless PC, speedtest shows 50MB downstairs, but when I moved it to upstairs, it becomes 20MB speed....

I've had no issues with mine running them over multiple ring mains, even on extension leads they've been fine. I've found with my Netgear sets, 10/100 Ethernet 500Mbps Poweline link that they rarely achieve this speed, mine average at around 140Mbps down&up but they have been higher and lower than this on occasion (using the Netgear Powerline utility) The higher Powerline link speed/bandwidth my be handy if you're running more than two adapters but if its only the two 200Mbps should be fine for most.

Do you have fibre? I had some older BT models and they didn't work well when I upgraded to 76Mb fibre, the internet speed was restricted to 20Mb which was the speed I had before the upgrade. Wondering if they have improved them now.

I always want to ask why do we need this. I can buy a 300Mbps wireless adapter for less than 10 quids, why do we need this? Someone answers me please

This will give you a wired connection, via the ring mains. It's the opposite of wireless. Some things need a wired connection, like a set top box for example.
I see issues with older properties, using these, trying to do more demanding things with their BB mind, like HD IPTV streams, so bear that in mind.

WiFi signal can be affected by distance from router/thickness of walls etc, these can be plugged in anywhere in the house.

200mbit is a bit out of date. 500mbit is standard, and more is possible (but still pretty expensive).

How well do these work when going across different ring mains in a house? On my previous powerline adapters I found they were great for all sockets on the same ring main, but when I moved to another socket on a different ring they were useless and would barely connect. (Both of the rings are connected to the same fusebox, just on separate fuses.)
