Thumbs up got one of these wall brackets for my 48" Sony TV and simple to put up, and if you have a plasterboard wall like myself use these TOGGLE/SNAPTOGGLE fixings, selling on ebay
(buy the ones with bolts inc, seller is margatemanbmw)
the best thing to come out of America and that's saying a lot folks.
So easy to use as well, and they will hold a frikin baby Rhino up on yer wall, ok a Big Telly then :stuck_out_tongue:

I would go with the Snaptoggles watch it on youtube a Joiners best friend these are and so simple to use and the weight these can hold, anchors are good, not putting them down but i wouldn't use them for hanging expensive telly's, mirrors etc...
Your fixing can be easily be taken down and the threaded hole will still be there to put your fixing back up on the wall again if say you decided to decorate months down the line then easily put back up again so for that reason and the sheer weight they can hold they have to be up there with the best.
And not forgetting when you put one of the snaptoggles through the drilled hole you can get an idea of the limited space you might have behind your plasterboard and if need be just buy smaller bolts of the same size recommended for the snaptoggle for pennies out a DIY store

Should I be worried about spending 4 quid on one of them only to risk a £1500 55 inch TV falling and smashing on the floor?

No. Its how its mounted is where the risk lies.
My preferred method on plasterboard is to use hollow wall anchors (depending on space behind wall)

Thanks, i got 2 of these wall brackets and those fixings on your recommendation. I did not know a TV could be put up on plasterboard so i have brought for my 2 children's bedrooms. Them fixings look quite clever and easy to use  Thanks again for the heads up

Great price and heat added. Any ideas if this is tilt adjustable at all...? Great price regardless but would be nice with a tilt option
