£32.95 for a combined car air-con recharge and anti-bacterial treatment(41% off)
Car air-con systems can get a little TLC before the summer with this one-hour recharge and anti-bacterial clean treatment. Technicians will first perform a pressure test, to detect leaks in the air-con system. If none are detected the service will go ahead and the air-con system will be recharged, meaning that drivers can stay cool when out on the road this summer. The service is available at over 265 ATS Euromaster locations nationwide. Plus, as an extra bonus, customers purchasing this air-con deal will also be able to use the same voucher to claim a one-off 15% discount against any purchase of brakes, batteries, exhausts, suspension or wipers at ATS Euromaster.

They dont check your system just fill it. Had my car recharged for this price a few years ago, a day later it was the same as before. Fine if you have a working air con system lol

I believe it is illegal to fill/recharge an air con system that knowingly has a leak

Same here, recharged last year and stopped blowing cold after a few days. Groupon does have other aircon deals that include the dye based leak check that would at least identify where it's leaking from....look for Elite Auto Centres.

according to the spiel on groupon they will check before regassing

Presumably, that's why they don't check first - plausible deniability.

Assuming they check for leaks, whether you ask them or not and you get a leak, would they charge for checking? I doubt I would get them to fix it, I'd get quotes and shop around, do research as it might be possible to fix myself

I had mine done at ATS and it is great.
First they evacuate the system and hold the vacuum to test for leaks. If all is well they refill with refrigerant and oil. It's all automatic based on the car make & model.

Did you get a refund on Groupon voucher when they said that? Ie of you buy voucher and they find a leak will it be refunded by Groupon?

24 Apr 161#16
If there is no leak why would the system need to be recharged, the gas would still be there? The only reason it would need to be recharged is if there is a leak (after repairing the leak).

Hi Jeff, some of the hoses on an air con system are rubber and the gases will be lost over time albeit very slowly, also when your system is re gassed air con oil is added which helps pro long the life of the seals etc by lubricating them. Hope this helps, if done by a reputable garage it is worth getting done!

Er no, Air Conditioning systems need servicing every few years, they all lose gas eventually. Using Air Con uses about 8% more fuel, you need to run the Air Con regularly to keep it working efficiently, that could just be anecdotal evidence, I guess you run it to keep the parts lubricated, a bit like sex but boring, although I've had comments to the contrary. Said too much haven't I?
gtd65
24 Apr 16#28
It's nothing like that in my experience.
A friend of mine didn't use the aircon in her Honda Jazz much as she thought it used too much fuel. She normally got 55MPG out of the car. I was driving this particular day and said I didn't find it made much difference at all, we drove off and turned on the AC, somehow the car got 63.1MPG lol! From that day onwards, she put the AC without any second thought of using additional fuel
I normal day to day driving it really made next to no difference based on the average MPG readings given by the car as well.
I'm sure Mythbusters showed that using the AC was more fuel efficient than winding the windows down anyway?

Afraid not, like everything in this world you pay extra for the convenience:
ATS will tell you anything to get a few extra quid out of your wallet. Bunch of cowboys.
gtd65
24 Apr 16#31
So much for my memory and all that then eh? ;-)
I'd say it's not a good test overall though. they did not do a sample run with both vehicles before starting the test so the results are really meaningless. it might be that the SUV that had the windows down was better than the other vehicle, despite being the same model?
I know I've owned identical cars before that did not achieve the same mph, despite being driven by me in identical conditions.
I still find that it makes almost no difference to my mpg overall. might be 1 or 2 mpg in the worst case. But saying that, I've actually recorded better mpg in the summer months, however, that's probably down to weather conditions?

took my car for AC recharge. got a call saying that they detected a leak and total cost will be £160. have them the go ahead. went long distance on Saturday and the AC started off badly and was blowing normal air after 30 minutes. need to take care back on Monday to get them to sort it out or get a refund. I'm glad I paid with my credit card so if there's any problems just make a claim through good ol' section 75.

Hot from me. Bought one last year and have done again this year. My local ATS were the only ones that managed to get my aircon to work at all on my Galaxy. I can see it has a very minor leak that allowed it to work until December last year, too difficult to get to easily to fix. Very helpful and honest. Take all my families cars there for MOT now as they offer real advice and have not ripped me off. Maybe I'm lucky.
