Pricey, but it's got 6 aerials, so that's pretty good value. My current router only has one aerial and was about £40, so this actually works out much, much cheaper.

Finding a wireless router can be difficult. Yes Asus Gigabit router can be a good option but in my opinion there other options as well that we can avail. Here some good resources to get started.
One word. Ubiquiti. I don't do consumer kit these days.

I'll retract that, I would use Mikrotik kit too which is consumer kit.

Twist it 180 degrees and you will get :
I think ASUS has still not yet understood how to make a hexapod robot.... But router which follows you around house would be a nice feature really

This I would agree with, I work as a NE now but used to work as in Education and trialed Ubiquiti in a high density environment... yes it failed miserably

Given the amount of Ubiquiti kit I've taken out and replaced for people with something better, I disagree. It's not about how long the POE injector lasts (use a switch anyway, injectors are messy), it's about radio performance and concurrent clients. It's good to know that the handoff works well for you as you'll be needing more APs by using Ubiquiti.
Maybe you've set up a few networks but I've set up hundreds with competitor's kit and Ubiquiti doesn't even come close. It is cheap though, as I said, you get what you pay for. If it's a choice between something like this Asus thing and Ubiquiti, sure, go for Ubiquiti. Otherwise, steer clear.
Xclaim is owned by Ruckus and aimed at the small business market, it doesn't have all of the Ruckus features but you can't expect those at this price range.

Some devices including the mFi, but to be honest networks are just a hobby for me. Not my real job, so I take an interest, but that's as far as I take it.

I would agree it's better, as long as you're not fooled into thinking it's enterprise grade like a mid range Cisco or Ruckus WAP.
Does Ubiquiti even support 802.1x yet?

30 Apr 161#33
It might not be Cisco grade kit, but for the price it's way better than any standard consumer equipment.

The best wifi APs use MIMO antennas which are printed onto circuit boards. Using software defined radio attenuation, hey can form 'beams' towards clients boosting the signal strength and quality without exceeding regulatory power limits.

For smaller businesses the Ubiquiti kit is amazing. I've setup a few networks using the kit in the past few years and only once had a POE injector die on me after 2 days on an install in New Zealand. But since then it has been flawless, and the handoff between APs on the network is seamless.

Shouldn't that have the NOD logo?

You could also try Xclaim, it's only an AP not a router so you'd need to connect it to a router but you'd get better wireless performance out of it than from anything else affordable. Ubiquiti is probably better than consumer kit but it's poor compared to other business grade stuff, you get what you pay for.

I take it this can't replace a BT Home hub but connects to one of the ethernet ports?
Has anyone used it with a Home Hub?

You can use an Ethernet cable to connect your modem / hub connection to this.

To be fair it is a good router. The prices are silly though. If I spent this much there are other options too. It's odd saying £150 is a great deal. But you can do worse! It is worth pinning out that several features are not quite as they make them out to be despite its early 2015 launch. Bigger numbers etc are misleading.

I have AC-87U which is very similar, its ok better than isp supplied but not much of in improvement from my asus RT-N66U expect AC support.
asus do update the firmware on these very frequently and merlin also supports it DD WRT and tomato not so well supported on the never routers at least no on my 87U

You are better off with a dedicated wireless Access Point ...and if placed correctly it should resolve all your wireless issues...

If this router gives you the option of being just an access point and not putting your virgin router into modem only then go with that set up. Mine kept losing bands when I set it up with the virgin router in modem only. Having it as just an access point stopped this.

Cold. Too much for what it is. This price will net you a better router, just not this one. The broadcom stuff needs to come down. Still not MU-MIMO ready. The double access points sound good but not necessarily great in practice. Underbaked firmware etc.

You don't get much choice in terms of better routers..
It is interesting how these look a lot like animals, netgears 8 antenna one is like a hedgehog, for this I would say a peacock.
