Been looking for a laptop for a bit of gaming & photo editing around the £500 - £600 mark. Best I've found is this laptop and similar with i5-6th Gen w/ Nvidia 940M GPU. However found this today with a Nvidia GTX 950M GPU. Admittedly the HDD is small, however it is SSD (128GB), which should suffice, as most of my storage is on NAS and external HDD's.

or go for Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series from outlet, I got one with 6th gen i7, 8gb, 1tb hybrid, 4gb nvidea and 4k screen for £590 uisng student discount code.
The version of this also comes with a 1TB HDD for an extra £50, if you want it. And as pointed out, the resolution is better on this.

When did you find it? I've only seen the 2gb nvidia version.
Are there certain days they have more laptops available?
Sorry but you cant direct link to systems in dell outlet. Dell.co.uk, down at the bottom of the page there is a link to the outlet, stck changes regularly, and you need to have a student email address to get a discount code.

Worth keeping an eye on if you are in no hurry to buy.

Yeah will do. Its not for me so I want something 'future proofed' for my family. Ideally 1tb hdd and decent sized SSD for OS and programs along with decent processing power/graphics. Big ask when trying not to go over £500

I was the same looking at the 2gb versions, but I took a chance and I've got a 4gb card. After looking at the full; price stuff I guess it's a typo on the outlet side. I've had it two weeks today.

How's the screen and keyboard? Read typing is spongy?

I been looking at this laptop for a while too. I am not into gaming. But the only reason I didn't buy this was because it doesn't have a backlit keyboard.

The screen is amazing, took a bit of getting used to - I use itt for photo editing - hence the 4k version, keyboard is ok - backlit ones on ebay for around £30

Didn't know it wasn't backlit. How's the fan noise?

Sorry I don't understand your proposition. Are you suggesting that laptop (with backlit keyboard) can be bought from ebay (with £30+) or you are saying that I get a backlit keyboard for £30 from ebay and replace it on this laptop (from ebuyer)??

A bit cheaper here £592.79 (minus the SSD, but u get 1TB HD)
I was talking about replacing the keyboard, On the Dell btw - fan noise is fine picks up when its busy almost silent most of the time

Any advantages in performance with onboard ram compared to sodimm? (Except onboard is not upgradable ofc)

Theoretically yes (which is why HBM in the graphics card world is exciting) but in practice no. Best case you shave down the timings a little but realistically it's exactly the same as the sodimm version, except without the sodimm connector.

For what this laptop has inside it, this is very good value!

In case anyone still following this, now £579.99. Quite tempted, except I feel there will be a better deal in time. A couple of cheaper deals already at £549.99 also on Ebuyer, but MSI and HP and not sure I trust either make. Had an MSI netbook that disintegrated and HP are notorious with good reason.
