Good deal.
From what I can see it also supports hardware accelerated UHD HEVC and HEVC 10bit so a good media GPU too.

People are assuming that everyone is going to use this card to play on max settings but personally I don't care about that, I just want to play on high graphics or even medium graphics and enjoy. BTW ordered 4 days ago

Worth pointing out that 900 series cards are ridiculous for SLI, two of these will outperform a 970 at the same power. However, 2gb of VRAM could become an issue in the next couple of years.
rev6 to milky228
11 Apr 16 #62
Probably best to buy a 970 or 390 then. That way you're not reliant on SLI support/scaling, and have more VRAM.

AMD had a similar "issue" with the release of the Crimson drivers. Some people had fan issues, but it wasn't that wide spread, and they fixed it later on. It shouldn't happen but it does.

Bought a GTX 950 3 days ago from amazon for £134.99 Just spoke to the online chat and they would not match so I have have started a return and ordered this. Put the SSD in my old i5 2500K with the gtx 950 and it will fly for 4k 60Hz video

It's perfect for what I want 4K @ 60HZ for movies as it has HDMI 2.0 port and does not need external power runs off the motherboard but I have read if connected off the six pin connector it can run better and be overclocked. Looks cool in white with the double fans.

Ok, lets face face here. The 'gamers' will complain it isn't fast enough, the bling crowd think it has too few blue flashing LEDs on it and most people who't have a clue if this is a good deal or not.

Well it is.

The GTX 950 is fast enough for EVERY game that is currently available at 1080p at 30fps+ with most things switched on. 60fps+ if you sacrifice visuals for fps.

Then throw in a 120gig SSD and you have the ultimate upgrade pack for people who bought mid end gaming machines 2-4 years ago and are now struggling a little bit.

NOTE my gaming PC has a i3-2120, 16 gigs of ram and a 750ti. It plays EVERY game out there.

Does it actually say it doesn't require power or does it just say nothing about power? I can't see anything. Either way I think we can safely say ASUS documentation is crap - it should have this information somewhere on its site.

This picture however does appear to pretty clearly show what looks like a power header:

Clearly you seem to think that you speak for everyone on here by your comments rather than offering an opinion. My opinion is the card is crap, and modern PC games just won't cut it with only 2GB RAM. So if you're looking for a substandard card then yes maybe it's OK but the reason it's selling at this price is because it's outdated and ain't gonna get any better in fact over the next few years it will become obsolete.

I prefer to tell it as it is and offer my opinion rather then claim to speak for a websites community as a whole.

There are better cards out there for this price range, the only thing making this a deal is the free SSD.
SaltyCDogg
2 Apr 16 #36
Reasonably, there are 4 Asus GTX 950 cards on their site, this one says it doesn't require power. Reviews for the Strix version say it doesn't as well.
https://www.asus.com/uk/graphics-cards/

Who knows though, Asus may have knocked out another variant.

Horses for courses.
If your not a gamer and are more more concerned with power efficency, heat and noise then the 950 has much to offer. It also appears to be marginally better for running a higher resolution monitor so for me it fits my criteria well.
If i was a gamer then i would probably plump for a R9 380 over the 950.

Got this card, it actually can play games well on medium settings. Latest COD and Tomb Raider on medium settings.Street Fighter 5, Killer Instinct, Shadow Complex maxed out.

Alot of power for a small card if you want current generation console graphics at 1080p.

You're talking in data transfer speed terms, this has nothing to do with the physical aspect of the slot. Your motherboard has full size PCIe slots, this card will fit in one of them.
Chrrye
1 Apr 16 #21
It's backwards compatible. You may not 100% maximise the card with a PCIe2 motherboard but the difference is negligible (if any!).

The only hesitation people should also consider with this deal is whether their PSU has the headroom (ie. spare wattage) for this GPU if they are adding it in.

Cheers, is this card worth the £130, if there was no ssd option? Thinking to use this as a main card for the main pc. Not a huge gamer, but, if there were any games, they would be mid range and older games like skyrim or along those lines.

I would need to do some size checks first as will need to fit the 990 asrock mobo (confirmed) with a aftermarket noctua cpu fan
SaxonStar to godzillafan
1 Apr 16 1 #15
With regard to whether the card is worth £130 I'd have to side with the answer 'no' based on GTX 960 and R9 380 prices regularly dropping to similar price ranges for relatively significant performance boosts. Of similar prices options a 4GB 380 would be my pick at the £130-£150 range (This is however my own opinion based on what I currently know, and should not be treated as fact). This is a great deal if you are running integrated graphics and a classic hard drive however, SSDs are fantastic and every computer should run their OS from one.

Edit: deal posted earlier today is better for the GPU but obviously misses the SSD. I also prefer MSI as a manufacturer over ASUS but again that is personal preference. http://www.cclonline.com/product/206619/R9-380-GAMING-2G/Weekly-Deals/MSI-AMD-Radeon-R9-380-GAMING-2GB-Graphics-Card-PCI-Express-3-0-x16-2-x-DVI-DisplayPort/HDMI/VGA2908-DOTW/?siteID=TnL5HPStwNw-WAW_EC3XSeKV23GwnDzo3Q
Edit2: According to synthetic benchmarks (again, not an absolute comparison but a good indicator) the 380 is maybe 33% more powerful than the 950. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
