Any laptop you buy won't have the build quality of this, although I agree it is still overpriced

You clearly have no idea what HUKD is about, do you?
Find a cheaper price for the same product and post the deal. Otherwise exercise your right not to buy it and find something more suited to your budget.

To filthycatbox. Thankyou so very much for the advice. I really appreciate it. I dont have the means to make mistakes when purchasing, so this is important to me. Thanks for taking the time to answer.I shall get an hp.

Sorry didn't see your question about the HP Envy. It's the same price roughly, and has a larger screen, faster processor, SSD and RAM. The aforementioned "bloke" in the shop is taking out of his ass really. Most reviews around (Mac fanboys excluded) favour the Envy and as an aging individual, you'll be thankful of the larger screen. Don't trust some fool in a shop on commission, that's what the internet is for!

Dear filthycatbox
You seem to know whats what where as I do not. I need a light laptop (i am old and partially disabled, so cant lift much). I normally use windows as do most of the people i comunicate with. I dont know whether to get an hp envy 13 which has 8gb and 256 ssd, or a mac air 11 inch which has 4gb and 128 ssd. The bloke at the shop says the mac , even though its got less ssd's? in it, is faster. Do you think this is true? (Ps i would have to have windows on the mac) . Thankyou

It all depends on what you need it for and how much you'd ideally like to spend. The new Dell Inspirons for example are decent, light and has a touchscreen which would suffice for the average user (web, word etc.) I work with many individuals with various disabilities, and the touchscreen seems to be much favoured. If you intend on using Windows on it, then you've eliminated one main reason why people buy a Mac. There are a few ultrabooks which are lighter if that's a main factor in your decision as well. The macbook air is at a pretty competitive price compared to similar specced alternatives, so it all comes down to what you want from a new laptop.

The surface book is a truly beautiful machine, but simply too expensive to compete with this deal. They had the opportunity with this thing to go head to head with the macbook air and pro, but didn't devote enough resources to marketing to justify this choice over the Mac's which in most people's eyes is a better machine.
Ultimately, the reality doesn't matter. The Apple demographic is not interested in the specs, they want to buy into the brand and the ease of use. And at the risk of going wildly off topic and descending into yet another tedious Mac vs PC topic, this is indeed a good post and good find. Just not for me or anyone a bit more tech savvy than the target audience.

No, i haven't used a surface pro. I have looked at them, but I'm used to Mac now. I doubt it "destroys" it though - just a different experience, and a very different architecture. If you could give me an example of how I could use it - given I am a creative type, then maybe I'd look at it.

No, the UK keyboard has a bigger return key than the US one, and you'll need to use opt-3 to type £, but on the other hand, # is Shift+3 instead of option-3

Now you're talking expensive! Starting price for a Surfacebook is double what this deal costs.
People suggesting that this is overpriced, actually the market decides if something is overpriced. If it doesn't sell well then it is overpriced, but if Apple can shift them at their price then they've got the price right.
So, expensive is probably the better word.

Way overpriced still. Would you pay £605 for these stats if it was a laptop. Hell no but because its got a little apple then yeah lets pay 3 times its value.

For general use, that laptop would be WAY slower due to the lack of a SSD. The one in the Air is even faster than some high end regular SSD's and has to run using PCIE instead of the regular SATA ports most SSD's use. So you will need to add at least another £50 to that price and the install it.
Also, look at the size of the bloody thing!
And I'm no mac fanboy, I hate OSX with a passion (for me, as a game developer, it crashes all the bloody time)

Lol no, not these days. show me a recent OSX version that can run on 1GB of ram.
Even Apple know Windows 10 is more efficient than OSX, that's why you can't install Windows 10 on older macs (more than 3.5 years old). Apple know once people install Windows 10 they will ditch OSX and not upgrade their macs to a newer version.
For anyone looking to buy, just be aware that it's a US keyboard layout - which just likely means differing positions for the odd keys i.e. the @ and " symbols.
Here's an apple link showing the different layouts (my eyes arent working too well this morning but I actually can't see any real differences):
Good price, I purchased the 64gb version for £750 about 2 years ago, best laptop I have.

Ok, fair point and my mistake in the screen size, but there are some really nice ASUS laptops with that screen size and again better specs. As a graphic/ux designer I totally agree about the design and user experience, but just like ios the Mac OS has been pretty stagnant for years now whilst windows has caught up.
As I said, I gave the deal heat, but anyone considering buying one is going to read comments so I'm entitled to point out to people who may not be aware due to the extremely effective marketing bombardment by Apple that there are better windows netbooks out there for less money.

Because you can compare a 15.6 breeze-block against a 11.6 ultra-portable. COOL TROLLING BRO.
Not everyone tosses themselves off every night over raw specs, some people like things that are very well designed and care more about the user experience.

Yep.... When I priced a 13inch air (got a good deal because I was doing a Msc module). About £690. There was no thin else on the market that price that had the build quality and slim lines etc. Equipment Samsung was £800-1000.
A better processor, screen etc for £200 less. It's a good deal posted, but there are a myriad of far better windows laptops for a lot less than this price to make your point, well... pointless. You pay for the name and build quality, nothing more. I used to only buy Macs for my profession, but they're just not good enough anymore and are aimed at basic users and students. I've just bought a 17" i7 Acer with a decent Nvidia card inside for under a grand. If I'd bought in to the Apple marketing nonsense, then that price would have got me a weak processor and onboard Intel graphics. The build quality of these is great, but it's like driving a Bentley with the engine of a Cortina.
If you want to see something really laughable, go into any university library these days and see all the students with their cutting edge, beautifully designed macbooks.... with USB bricks hanging out of them due to lack of ports.
