Refurbished Apple iPhone 5s 16GB Factory Unlocked - Space Grey, 12 Month warranty, I've never posted an Apple iphone deal before and felt the urge to have a mega cold deal once and for all... I've had a few deals go chilly but really fancy the chance to experience pure hatred as is so often witnessed when poor old underdog Apple gets posted.
Item Description
1. Refurbished and in Good to Excellent Condition
2. Fully tested, fully functional and working
3. Moderate scratches and scuffs on the aluminium back casing and sides.
It's an Apple product so please feel free to argue pointlessly, monotonously and disturbingly obsessively about Apple vs Android vs Nokia 3210 vs Startac phones.
No additional accessories supplied!
What's in the Package:
1. Used iPhone 5S 16GB (Unlocked) - Space Grey
2. Sim Opening Tool

Whilst purusing Ebay for my daily fix of questionable and pointless unnecessary junk (antique Spam tin cans currently) I was notified of some splendid reductions on refurbished electronic goods all with 12 months warranty. With my interest piqued I proceeded forth and clicked on the link which I then found this iphone deal which on the face of it appeared to offer great value. Never having owned an iphone or indeed any Apple product I consulted with my butler who advised that he'd heard on the street (well the boulevard) that this did indeed appear to constitute a fair price and suggested I posted the deal forthwith and with gusto.

I would be very careful to buy from these people, I took a risk and got an iPhone 6 supposed to be in excellent condition , fully refurbished etc etc it finally arrived 7 days later not the 48 hours as stated in ad. & its condition was awful , battered , scratched up edges and deep scratch on the screen but most worrying is you could see the front camera wasn't aligned properly!
We took lots of pics and carefully worded a return request hoping for a better replacement but the reply we got was that was the best they had.
Still today after many emails 4 weeks after initially purchasing it I had to chase them again for the refund, I did get a quick reply but they said it had been paid , a quick confirmation with PayPal and a threatening email later they have now said they made a mistake & would be paying it soon.
Reading between the lines I think they sell all kinds of phones in any old state, they aren't refurbished just returns & if you make a mistake with not sending it back in time you won't get a refund. I would NOT take the risk to buy from these people, you might get a good looking phone but God knows what's wrong with it inside, it was returned for some reason..
Reading other posts I can see they do the same thing, HUKD should put a warning against this post!! I bet it's them boosting the heat..

I was surprised when this first went hot, every other post by this company has the same reports of quality as have been commented. Even more surprised it's still gaining heat. I wouldn't trust a company that has this as a description
Refurbished and in Good to Excellent Condition
2. Fully tested, fully functional and working
3. Moderate scratches and scuffs on the aluminium back casing and sides.
1 and 3 contradict each other and gets the seller out of so much trouble.

I am not electrician hence I have to trust people ;-). I made a little bit research in internet and although Apple states you can use any charger, some people say it is not recommended.
My wife's old 4s is heating too during charging process (100% original), although 5s was definitely hotter yesterday.
Yes, potentially this can be a problem. Thank you for an advise.

Phones are designed to only draw the current they are designed for. Even if you're using a 2.1A charger it should only draw 1A. I charge my electronic cigarette with a 2.1A charger when it's rated for 0.5A! How hot does it get?

Battery getting hit whilst charging sounds like an issue. Using iPad charger should make no difference. Apple actually state you can use iPad charger.

I ordered grade A and paid 119 pounds (147-20% promo).
Was scared reading comments but I got absolute pristine, brand new like from factory.
I can comment on cosmetic side only - 2 small downsides:
- display white back light is brighter in bottom-left corner - visible in dark background pictures/movies. Under normal usage - not a problem.
- home button was initially quite hard and jammed few times.
Battery was almost completely flat - battery gets hot when charging - but this could be my fault - I used Ipad charger so it has 2.1 amp instead of 1 amp.
Can't comment how good battery is yet or usage.
Accessories: usb cable (but no charger), cover, screen protectors and "sim opening tool".
Considering all I am very happy so far and no complains.

All true, although the residue of these matters is only to be found on the outer surfaces of the device, and there exist on the market such spendidly wondrous things as antibacterial sprays, which can be applied vigorously all over by means of a kitchen towel or cotton wool pad, upon which treatment, all traces of fecal matter, urine, semen, cocaine, ball sweat musk, mucus, blood or any other bodily effluvia will have been eradicated.

They are the worst company ever.......Got an iPhone from them was described as MINT condition and got a phone that was really damaged .Scratches everywhere even on the screen. Messaged them and told them that I want a refund (they take their time in replaying ).I got a prepaid label from them 2nd class royal mail(not recorded) phoned the, and requested a prepaid label with recorded delivery but they weren't bothered so had to pay for the return myself.Do not send it back without tracking .They were very root on the phone as well .
Finally.... instead of the refund got another phone which again as some scratches but I didn't want it .I wanted my money back....
Had to contact eBay to get the money and had to send the 2nd phone back myself as well as I wanted it recorded delivery.
I don't want to know how their warranties are covered .....

16gb less the chunk apple takes for the OS (over 4gb for ios8, not sure for ios9), any photos you take, a few apps and some music and you're not going to have much storage left. I'm basing that on my dad's iPad Air 1st Gen, which he hasn't been able to update in well over a year because all the apps and data he has on there are too important to him. Still, the iPhone 5 S was the top selling phone in the world in 2014, so it can't be all that bad.

just a silly question is 16gb not enough ? and when u update to latest iso iPhone 5s how much space is left without any apps installed ?
swfarrington to evansnarty
3 Apr 16#176
Only you can really answer that one because it depends on what you're going to do with the phone.
Looking at my iPad (my only apple device) I've used 15GB space with all the apps I need plus the OS which I believe is about 5GB (iOS 9.3) - no doubt someone will clarify how big the OS is.
Clearly if it was a 16GB device there's little breathing room there. So if you're planning on storing loads of apps, photos and music on your phone 16GB will be pushing it. But if you only have a couple of apps and don't tend to store all the stuff then you might be OK. That's why I got the 64GB model, although were a 32GB available that would seem the logical choice. Which is presumably why apple discontinued it!
spannerzone
3 Apr 16#174
Apple sold refurbs are no doubt a much safer purchase because they are thoroughly checked, tested and probably recased and you get the Apple support which is excellent but they are not new, they are refurbished to a high standard, Apple themselves state:
Apple Certified Refurbished Products are pre-owned Apple products that undergo Apple’s stringent refurbishment process prior to being offered for sale. While only some units are returned due to technical issues, all units undergo Apple’s stringent quality refurbishment process.
These no doubt are the phones that get exchanged by Apple under warranty.
Clearly resellers of cheap Apple products via Ebay are likely to have got their stock via other means, probably those companies that buy your old phones, refurbish them (clean, check IMEI and check functionality) - that's why these are cheap unlike a refurb purchased from Apple direct, which you would expect to cost more.

3 Apr 161#166
Dont buy anything from this ebay seller. Phones that are listed as Very good to Excellent come dirty and in poor visual condition and you have to pay for the return postage and it takes a long time , many messages to get your money back. Avoid

Yes exactly, I have had a refurb from apple and they are completely new the refurb from this ebay seller universal gadgets was a complete mess, just a worn out phone with dirt in every area possible. I suspect these people are just buying them from either a second hand shop or some sell your mobile cheap business.
BaronGazz
3 Apr 16#172
I didn't take it apart because 1. It's a relatively cheap phone and not worth my effort 2. Would invalidate the 12 month warranty 3. The IMEI checks out 4. If it did all go tits up, that's what the warranty is for.
As I said, happy given what I paid for. If I wanted a guaranteed new phone I wouldn't be looking on eBay in the first place.

Save yourself from buying an old model which will slow down as soon as the new OS is available. Instead buy an expensive chinese phone (sub £200) and you will get a super fast phone. There are plenty with great graphics, 4G, 3gb rom and 32gb of memory.

16GB for an iOS device is not enough in 2016. I hope apple stop being dicks releasing 16GB variants just to get people to buy the 64GB version. the 16GB should of been replaced with 32GB or 64GB as a minimum for the iPhone 6, 6S and SE, Then had the more premium storage as 128GB and 256GB for the high end one.

Maximum charge is what its current maximum is
Also of interest is load cycles (number of times battery has been fully charged and fully discharged). this is (at least according to a genius for my macbook) done intelligently i.e. there'll be times when you discharged from 67% to 31% then plugged it in again. It takes this into account.
It's quite likely most of these will have had way more than the cycles for which the battery is covered for excessive degradation by warranty, so a free replacement is unlikely, however if the battery is poor, you can do it yourself for quite cheap https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPhone+5s+Battery+Replacement/19239

I'm genuinely sharing a deal and have no personal interest or involvement with this seller. My style of posting deals may not appeal to everyone but I make my posts comical primarily because they make me laugh and it seems a few others also find it funny. The internet is a public place and forums can be full of joy and wonder or bleakness and joyless. I certainly don't write anything to offend but I do write to either amuse (some) or help as can be seen in other deals where I've spent a fair amount of time helping prospective buyers with advice, such as recent PC desktop deal I posted. Luckily this being a public forum, those that take offence don't have to read this and can move along without issue, those that find my style mildly amusing are more than welcome to join in. Isn't the internet a wonderful thing!

Sounds like the same company as Quick Mobile Fix, also operating out of the same address. If a part inside the phone is not working or the screen is cracked, they will replace it with the cheapest parts available. A replaced screen for example may not have the same touch responsiveness or the quality of the display output, until you do a side by side comparison. Lots of good reviews on Google, and like Ebay, lots of bad reviews on Google, and experiences are similar. The most value feedback is coming from those on sites like HUKD, with warranty requests say some 9 months down the line - where you can no longer put feedback and where Ebay and PayPal are way past their cover period - that's when you risk an unreputable seller going silent on you, shame these guys do it too

I asked for another one and they agreed to send out a "better looking one".
I emailed them through eBay. They requested pics of damage. Which I have sent. See what they say next.

1 and 3 contradict each other and gets the seller out of so much trouble.
Contacted them, and they seem uninterested in helping out, have opened a case with ebay
My wife's old 4s is heating too during charging process (100% original), although 5s was definitely hotter yesterday.
Yes, potentially this can be a problem. Thank you for an advise.
Can safely vote hot!
Finally.... instead of the refund got another phone which again as some scratches but I didn't want it .I wanted my money back....
Had to contact eBay to get the money and had to send the 2nd phone back myself as well as I wanted it recorded delivery.
I don't want to know how their warranties are covered .....
It's a good deal.
Voted hot.
No kid wants an Android device if all their friends communicate on iMessage group chats, syncing effortlessly with their iPad/iPhone.
I'll admit I hate apple but when you have Mithering kids who only want apple, got to sell a much better htc one m8 which is surplus to requirements now.
As I said, happy given what I paid for. If I wanted a guaranteed new phone I wouldn't be looking on eBay in the first place.
Are they really giving those phones away for free with a with a rare collectors item, an Apple paper clip ?
Luke warm... not hot or cold.
None of this voting makes sense!!!
Made a big difference for me - YMMV

Worth the extra £31 to have brand spanking in my opinion.
Then you have to wait for ebay seller to send you another after sending back first one ( which theyll make all sorts of excuses like buyers fault etc)

Remember to save to history every so often so you can chart its progress! and if you buy from apple direct, remember they are quite generous with their battery replacement for poor performing batteries if you get the right person on the right day.
and if ever buying a used device (eBay, here etc), ask them to run it before committing to the purchase
I've added the software to my Dock in El Cap, thanks again.
