Go back and actually READ my posts and not what you think I said. I never once said any power supply could be used in its place. This all started when I said its marketing BS that this is the fastest charger in the world. Any QC3 charger will charge at the same rate as the rate of charge is dictated by the device which that article explains. You seem to have made an argument out of nothing and are trying to imply I have said something to the contrary to the facts, which I have not.

Yes you are! Most mobile phones don't do any voltage control, the battery within them takes care of voltage regulation, Quick Charge is built into the phone and that communicates with the charger to decide on the optimum charge rate throughout the charge cycle to the battery. In order to take advantage of Quick Charge you have to have a compatible charger not just any old high output one!

I know exactly how this device works and it won't perform any different to any other power supply built with the same QC standard as the device being charged dictates the charge rate. The hardest part is agreeing an industry standard.

That's what I said. This device supplies a voltage up to a maximum current, the charging circuit in the device dictates which voltage and current are required at each stage of the charging cycle not this device. Also switch mode power supplies for the voltages and currents used here are common and produced in mass and are dirt cheap if bought from the manufacturer.

It's not rubbish, the charging circuit is in the device being charged. The fact is this power supply supports a voltage and current which are required by the charger in the device being charged. It's that simple and it has to work that way as the charging profile has to match the batteries requirements in the device. These devices are nothing more than power supplies.

All it means is you need a usb-c lead which isn't provided to charge you're phone. It will rapid charge said phone if it supports QC 2.0 / 3.0

Can anyone tell me if this will work with a Moto X Play? Seems much cheaper then the Turbo Charger on the Motorola site, but I don't know the difference between Quick Charge / Turbo Charge.

Yes, I've used it with my Moto X Play and it works well. The phone only supports QC 2.0, so the charger is technically more capable than you need, but there's no harm in having a future-proof charger.

What does it mean when it says "38% faster and more efficient than the previous version". Should the word efficient even be in there? How many people actually know how efficient a phone charger is at taking 240v from the wall and charging a phone? How much is lost to heat and noise? If I take a made up figure of 80% for a QC 2.0 are these QC 3.0 really something like 87% efficient?

It's actually in both. Quick Charge requires negotiation from both sides of the cable, it's not just a simple higher amp charger.
The charger needs to be able to step the voltage correctly with what the device needs, as you can't simply whack a high voltage or current into a Li-ion without having some sensible controlling circuit in there. These are currently too big for a phone, so it's in the charger which the phone negotiates with.
So yeah, it is just a charger, but there is actually a bit of decent tech present in Quick Charge devices. It's not all marketing. It's actually a good idea given how many crappy chargers are out there (and how many recalls we've had) that the regulations for being classed a s Quick Charge device is quite strict. Rubbish! Quick Charge is a proprietary charging method for compatible Qualcomm based chipsets. It's the same idea as rapid charging with electric cars where the system allows very rapid charging until the battery reaches 80% when it will reduce the ampage to avoid battery damage.

I can confirm it works with my lg g4. recognises as a fast charger as opposed to just charging.
charges much faster than the original charger which is around 2 amps.
this charges at 5v at 2.4a. which theoritically shouldnt make much difference at all. but I concluded it modifies the charging circuits behaviour to modify the charging cycle.
either way it charges really fast. I'm happy with mine.

As its able to utilise the extra 0.4A that's a 20% increase in charge rate so it should be noticeably quicker. Raises the question why LG cheaped out with the power adapter they supplied
