Just thinking back to the days when people were buying PCs for over £1000 that were just about capable of running Microsoft Office and a browser, now we have yokes like this for £60. What a time to be alive!

I bought a win7 licence from an ebay seller for a tenner and used it to upgrade to 10. Unlike all the shady set ups, these guys mail you the physical sticker and, if you happen to want the scrap pc it came from you can call round (to Manchester) and pick it up! Also, they've been around for 5 years

Anyone knows how to update the Bios as I couldnt do it. Any quick link for the compatible Bios update? I had similar issue with a Dell laptop but after Bios update I was able to install Windows 7

If you put on windows 10, make sure you use the acer drivers:
http://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers

I found performance to be far better with those than the built in windows 10 drivers.

I get a score of 612 using Gentoo and the display is nice and smooth. I've seen it without hardware acceleration, and it is not pretty. I had to include drivers for both i915 and i965, which seemed a bit weird. See if you can find an Xorg log file and check it for errors.

I'm a bit late posting, so I don't know if anyone's still around to read this, but...

Thanks for the tip on the wifi, worked! That was close to being the final straw that made me send it back. Now I'm back not making my mind up whether to keep it.

You're in a similar situation to me, as I've also got Mint 17.3 installed (17.1 wouldn't). It works, but mine just feels far more sluggish than it should, even for a low power processor PC, especially in the graphics area. I've checked the main processors, and the most they're doing is about 30% each or less, most of the time, so the sluggishness isn't them. In 1080p video, it's a little too jerky, in fact more jerky than a USB stick plugged into my TV, which kills the main purpose of having it as a media player.

A good example would be a 1080p copy of Spectre I have, which when I play in VLC (or the other movie player), at the start, when the classic 007 sniper's circle appears, it doesn't move entirely smoothly across the screen, but as a series of small jerks. Other things like slight sheering effects and jumps when the camera moves quickly. It's not bad enough to be unwatchable, but it's a small if irritating distraction. Same problems with 720p files too, Incidentally. It's weird, because I've checked VLC and no frames are being dropped.

Other examples would be how a YouTube video's frame rate completely grinds to a halt if you wiggle the mouse over it.

Also having some stability issues. The screen doing the occasional strange momentary "twitch," and the occasional crash with the screen going light grey. All graphics related stuff, it appears. I'm keen to know if anyone with Linux, particularly Mint 17.3 installed is having the same problems as me, if they're not, I think I need to return it for replacement.

Also other oddities like the fact that it's impossible to get the mouse cursor in the exact top left of the screen.

I'm suspecting Mint isn't using the graphics hardware acceleration, but I'm not sure if it's because Mint has found it's unstable, or just lack of drivers. I'm not sure how to check what's going on, though. KODIUbuntu also refused to run because of a lack of hardware acceleration, and told me to check for drivers.

I'm trying to work out if I've got a duff graphics chip, or it just needs a BIOS update or something, but I haven't got the time to keep messing with it, I'm running out of time to send it back. £60 is great as long as you aren't having to spend hours trying to fix the damn thing.

In text mode/DOS, I've also had a lot of weird stuff go on. Not just the flickering I've seen someone else complain about, but also
"---------------------------------------------------------" lines appear on the screen, sort of floating on top of the FreeDOS output, as if stuck there by the graphics card. Anyone else had that?

I've never seen that on a PC before. Also when trying to run KODIUbunutu, bootup text output becoming unreadable and looking more like hieroglyphics. Weird sh*t.

Still also getting lots of other error messages, such as something about a WMID, also, errors like this when installing the wireless drivers:
"Unable to write sector 0 after 4096 Read/write error"
Which is a bit of a worry, as it seems to indicate possible issues with the eMMC.
Not sure how seriously to take all these, though, and the wifi did end up finally working, in spite of the various error messages.

What do you think guys, problems I can iron out, or have a got a bad one?

REQUEST

Can anyone who's successfully got a flavour of Linux working, run the following graphical performance test, as documented at https://www.howtoforge.com/tutorial/linux-gpu-benchmark/ :

Open a terminal box, then install with:

sudo apt-get install glmark2

Then execute:

glmark2

I get a score of 378, which looks a bit low compared to the 3000 Nvidia example out on the website.

If others are scoring higher, then I'll know my graphics setup isn't right, and that's what the issue is.

Quick review, hardware annoyances:

Only 3 USB ports, even if they are all USB3. You can get away with 3 on a laptop, where you've already got a keyboard and trackpad built in, but 4's a sensible minimum on a nettop, 6, better. I could live with only two USB3s if I could have 2 or more USB2 ports. As pointed out by others, Win 7 likes USB2, too.

As it is, you're going to pretty much need a multiport adaptor, which is going to be more clutter and fiddling about.

No VGA, could give the Displayport a miss.

No digital out, no mic in - get what you pay for, guess.

Fan - which seems unnecessary with a N3050, guess it must work out cheaper than a bigger heatsink. It it smart, though, so it turns off when not needed - although the constant turning on and off can also prove annoying. It's fairly quiet, though.

As others have said, real shame about the lack of a auto-restart on power cut. Pointless, annoying limitation.

The keyboard's liveable, the mouse is dire.

Pluses - proper SD card slot, non of this mini-SD silliness, as is the trend. Would prefer a USB and the SD on the front, though.

Overall, at £60 I'd say it's a bit of a bargain, if you can iron out the problems, but at the same time, not astounding, either. Think I'd be feeling I hadn't got good value for money if I'd paid over £80, considering the slow processor, output limitations, lack of installed (proper) OS the amount of fiddling you have to do to get things working. Anyone paying £120 wants their head looking at, but I've always thought Nettops were a bit overpriced for what they are, which is basically a Netbook (which you can often get for about the same price) without a screen, camera, battery and often, OS.

Still debating whether to keep. Not happy with the state of it as a media player and stability side of things at present, but a handy, flexible TV based webbrowser and emergency mini PC for £60? That's not bad.

you're right - it said it wasn't activated! though as it's an old NC10 it was running very slow and wouldn't let me click on ACTIVATE NOW and see what happened. I usually run Ubuntu on it as it can cope with Netflix (with a lot of hassle to get the old version of chrome) and youtube full screen no problems but windows struggles with Netflix and eventually settles at a low resolution.

I had some problems with monitors, I initially used an old widescreen Dixon's monitor from 2005/6 I think using a DVI to HDMI lead and it had some problems with drivers but worked.

When I then plugged in a widescreen monitor from 2011 it wouldn't work. I disconnected everything and restarted it a few times and eventually it worked.

I opened up the bottom of the unit and disconnected the battery from the main board for a few minutes. Reconnected it and then tried again. There was no difference.

Go to the settings app, select update & security and then look at activation. You'll see that your PC isn't activated as Windows XP doesn't qualify for the free upgrade.

You need to either upgrade from an activated version of Windows 7/8 or own a valid Windows 7/8/10 key to activate Windows 10 from a fresh install.

However Ive gone back to it after a couple of days turned off, and it wont boot at all. Tried DEL and F12 and cant get any menu, just what looks like the first line of POST. Ive checked the BIOS battery and its wrapped in black tape - I assume eBuyer are saying that its OK to take all the black tape off in order to remove the battery? Otherwise its going to be another return to eBuyer

Windows 10 will accept Windows 7 and 8 product keys, so you could of bought one of them for a little less instead.

The Windows 10 upgrade is free, but many people don't seem to realise that you can install Windows 10 and use your Windows 7 or 8 key to activate it. You don't need to do an upgrade as long as you've got a valid key.

Just spoken to the ebuyer returns department and as you all know they have had quite a lot of these sent back due to the bricked units. His advice to me with regards to my issue is to remove the BIOS Battery and leave it out for a few minutes and then replace it. I asked about warranty issues and he said that it will not void my warranty. This is the part that might help a few of you guys, he also explained that removing the BIOS battery from the unit and replacing it has actually cured the Bricked units that they have had returned to them.
Ill try mine when I get home from work and let you know how it goes.

Try pressing Delete. While booting to enter the Bios. Then go to boot options. Choose your memory USB memory stick to be the first boot device, using F5 and F6, I think, to change boot order. Save settings then it should boot from your memory stick, as long as the stick is bootable. I hope this helps.

"You can change the aspect ratio of the TV for viewing the picture in different zoom modes. Note: In YPbPr and HDMI modes, while in 720p-1080i resolutions, only 16:9 mode is available"

I have Windows 10 Pro installed on this and all is good apart from 1 thing.

It's connected to a 1080i TV and overscan means that the sides are cropped. This is usually easy to rectify on AMD systems but I can't for the life of me fix it in the Intel drivers. I've tried reinstalling them etc

I've tried following:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/surfpro2-surfdevice/how-to-adjust-hdmi-overscan/d24c6236-c869-4b1a-9396-7d56d3b06c85

but I don't see the sliders to adjust the screen.
I also don't see the option to Customise Aspect Ratio which is mentioned in a lot of posts about overscan and Intel.

Can anyone help?

Once you see Acer flash up on the screen, pressing Del will take you into the BIOS. For installation purposes, where you need to boot just once from an installation device, you are better off pressing F12 and selecting the USB device. There is no need to go into the BIOS to change the default boot device. As mentioned above, you will need USB 3 drivers. Are you going to try to install to the eMMC device? That would be, eh, interesting.

Mine arrived today - I've just finished installing Windows 10 Pro 64bit.

After a raft of auto-driver updates (which I had to set in motion myself via Control Panel), and before installing anything at all, I've got 16.6Gb free.

Not sure why it's caused nightmares for others, but after prepping a USB stick installer with W10 on, it was just a matter of plugging it in, starting up, f12 to select "boot from USB stick" - and that was that.

The tips were mainly for YouTube and local video files.

Have you tried watching BT Sport in the Edge browser? That normally uses better codecs than Chrome or Firefox. Of course if you make the video full screen or increase the quality so that it's more than 480p then it'll lag a whole lot since Flash isn't good with acceleration.

On a very old PC of mine I know that if I disable protected mode within Flash by editing mms.cfg then it'll play videos a little smoother when I watch them in Firefox. It's not recommended though as it'll leave your PC open to various attacks.

Kodi with the SportsDevil add-on is the only other alternative. You'd then just have to find a stream that doesn't buffer too much for you.

8 May 16 #371
It has nothing to do with distro version, it's more to do with the kernel version the distro uses. If you've got the will power you can get any distro/kernel working but for the laid back approach it appears kernel version 4 is the one to choose for ease of install and effortless driver compatibility.

Linux mint 18 will be released soon to satisfy your needs.

I installed ubuntu server 16.04 without problems.
All I did was alter boot order in bios to boot off usb.
No config / bios / grub changes.
Get some 'mouse trails' when using X however firefox, chrome etc are fine.
Wifi is also configurable although I am using hard wired.

Hi - thankyou for the optimisation tips, I downloaded the codec pack and changed the setting in video but I am still getting the CPU running at 100% and video being a bit choppy when watching BT Sport via the flash player on any web browser it seems, I've tried chrome, Firefox and IE and they all seem the same, I've stuck an 8gb RAM stick in and the RAM is no where near being maxed, it's the CPU that's maxing out - I don't suppose you have any other ideas? Thanks in advance for the help

Thanks.

With regards to your linux woes have you tried debian ? Having upgraded the BIOS I also went for upgrading untangle to 64 bit because I need docker. Installer saw the emmc.

The only thing I can think of is

- I have boot legacy mode set in the BIOS
- For debian based distros (untangle, mint, ubuntu etc) when the installer starts make sure you add the kernel parameter 'noapic'
- Once installed on the emmc you'll have to add this param again to boot from the emmc. Make it permanent by adding to /etc/default/grub and doing an update-grub

If you get past this, linux runs perfectly on this box

Mine arrived today. It's going in my sons room, so will have KODI/SHOWBOX/SKY GO/YOU TUBE installed. I will list how I installed Windows 10 if it helps anybody else etc.

Installed a Kingston 8gb SODIMM. I had already downloaded Windows 10 from Microsoft.com. I downloaded the USB bootable version. I also bought a Windows 10 key from eBay for £10.

I plugged my 32gb Win 10 bootable USB stick into the side USB. (the back two had the keyboard and mouse in)
Connected my Ethernet lead.
Switched on and tapped "Delete" until the BIOS screen came up. In BIOS I scrolled across to the BOOT section. Selected USB boot and pressed F6 until it was at the top of the list. Saved and exited BIOS.
On reboot, Window install started. It asks which drive you want to install Windows to. The only option was the on board 32gb MMC/SSD. It won't install until you select "Format" for that drive.
After formatting, Windows begins to load. You will be asked to input your Licence KEY. When it's complete (around 30 mins) it will reboot. If you are not quick enough or miss it, it will try to start over again. DON'T WORRY!
All you have to do is cancel the install and reboot the machine (or press off etc)
This time press "Delete" again to enter BIOS. Scroll to BOOT and this time move the 32gb MMC to the top of the list. save and exit again.
Now windows will carry on setting up. You will be asked some options and passwords to use. Mine did one final reboot and then started as normal.
WELCOME TO WINDOWS 10...

I then formatted my 32gb USB stick and left it plugged in. In settings, I selected that Windows stores MUSIC/PICTURES/VIDEOS to the USB stick. This will save using up the precious 15gb (of the actual 29gb MMC) which was left after the Win 10 install. I might be able to free up some more by deleting some setup files/Apps no longer needed etc.
I also created a shortcut to the family server, so files can be stored there. Microsoft cloud storage is also enabled.
Everything seems smooth and glitch free so far

I can confirm it. I had the same problem after installing Windows 10 just to do the BIOS upgrade. I plugged my serial number into the website and downloaded the BIOS it recommended and got the "this bios is not for this netbook" message. I've tried quite hard to install linux, but none of the distributions have been able to see the eMMC device. Yet W10 works fine! It's really rather annoying.

7 May 16 #358
So the windows updater is borked ? Can anyone else confirm this ?

Interesting ! As when I tried to flash from dos I got similar messages saying the BIOS installed is BatmanL opposed to the new firmware file 'Batman' so it wouldn't flash unless I forced it with the /mc switch

For those of you who like to live life on the edge....

Instructions to flash BIOS A3 from freeDOS

Download the bios bundle : http://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/support-product/6412;-;M1-601

- Extract the windows exe : BATR1A3S.exe
- Copy BATR1A3S.fd to your freedos bootable usb md5 : 4D619D6E34AC9E8E2F67B2B0B1E174BB
- Copy the dos flash utilities which are bundled with the firmware from m2-601 http://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/support-product/6531;-;M2-601
- H2OFFT-D.exe md5 : A20C4285BB9C9070E1D2B5EFFDCEE595

Boot from usb freedos
flash using
- H2OFFT-D.exe BATR1A3S.fd /all /bios /mc

(the /mc is the dangerous bit as it flashes your BIOS bypassing checks)

- say a prayer or two whilst crapping yourself and waiting for the bar to hit 100%

- reboot into your new BIOS.

WAS IT WORTH IT ? NO not for me
subliminalaura
7 May 16 #354
OK I'll try flashing from dos

If you're new to linux then it's not straightforward, for everyone else just disable ACPI from the kernel during installation and post installation and it's plain sailing from there.

I'm not holding my breath though, I've spent the last 4 weeks interviewing for a junior linux sysadmin and **** me the quality out there is poor :disappointed:

I managed to install Mint 17.3 (cinnamon) on this first time of trying. The very small issue I've had is that the wireless card wasn't being seen to begin with. it took me 30 seconds to find the fix on the mint forum. I haven't had long enough with the box yet to comment on stability but it seems fine so far.

yeah I downloaded that file, extracted the zip and there are two folders, a "WIN" one and a "ROM" one, there is also a "readme" link, in the readme it says open the "WIN" folder and run the "flash.exe" program, however in the folder is a "BATR1A3S.exe" program in at when I run it it comes up with the error I said above about being an incorrect bios for this netbook - it's strange

The only thing I can't do is update the BIOS, I'm not sure if the one I am using is already the latest but when I download the one supposedly for this PC it comes back with a "this bios is not for this netbook" message - it is downloaded direct from ACER and shows a picture of this model but the model number seems to be different on the bios file

what is the fault with yours ?

my 3 arrived a few days ago with free delivery

originally I thought mine was faulty too, because when connected to my 1080p TV via HDMI, booting into freedos, the screen was all garbled/scrolling

I tried to install windows 7, the screen was still corrupt, and wouldn;t install...just hung on the initial language screen

I tried the second one...same problems

so I downloaded windows 10 to a USB stick...the screen was still corrupt, but the install worked

when rebooting/during installation, once the correct screen drivers were automatically detected and installed, the screen resolution changed from 640x480 (which was screwing up my tv) to 1080p

all good now, on all 3

6 May 16 #335
To be honest I didn't look how much space it took and I haven't got it set up now, will get it out later when the kids have gone to bed - the way I did it was install Windows 8.1 via USB stick (that I made from an ISO file using a program named Rufus) then upgraded via the Microsoft website - it was fairly straightforward, the only thing I did that may or may not be important is during the initial installation process when it asked me to restart the computer I re entered bios and changed it back from "boot from USB stick" to the internal HDD. I did this as someone else recommended it on this thread

As this wee box won't run Linux you've instantly got the cost of a Windows 10 license on top.

6 May 16 #320
Yes, need to add USB 3 drivers to Win7 install (I recently did that with aBrix that only has USB 3). Not hard to do - easy way is use utility Intel provides for NUC (it is not specific to NUC - it just does job of adding the USB drivers): https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25476/Windows-7-USB-3-0-Creator-Utility

However I have no idea if that alone will allow Win7 to install on this Acer. It may be that eMMC is not recognised or too small, or some other incompatibility.

If have Win 7 license and planning on upgrading to Windows 10, Microsoft can be quite helpful if difficulty installing win 7 - after checking the license, they gave me a new Win 10 product key to save having all the hassle with Win 7. It seems installing Win 10 on this may not be as big an issue, so that may be best way to go for some.

It's a shame about the difficulty some have had getting Linux on this. I couldn't either. I know others have described how to do it, but it seems a PITA. I got W8.1 upgrade on without a problem, but not surprisingly it wouldn't authenticate. Don't really want to shell out for a copy of Windows. Any way mines back with ebuyer having bricked it with bios defaults. We'll see what their response is. Interestingly if anyone else does this might be worth letting Acer know . I contacted them at same time and they responded after ebuyer to say return it as they recognised it as a DOA fault because it happened within 5 days.

It doesn't come with any drive at all, so out of the box you need to pay more for storage.

Then there is the running cost.

As for installing Win 8.1, I pressed the power button, kept hitting DEL button until the bios came up and changed the boot order to read off the USB stick first (bootable Win8.1) I had plugged in. Then let Windows install itself as usual. Then when Windows needs too restart the Revo to carry on installation, when it restarts hit DEL button again too change the boot order back too the system storage (eMMc?).

Some people seem to be very unlucky with their delivery times from ebuyer.
I am usually OK - perhaps if you live in or near a large city it helps.

25.4.16 - Ordered - selected free delivery
26.4.16 - Arrived for some reason next day, must be the additional memory I bought as well ;-)
30.4.16 - ** BRICKED - see post 191 for how to do this if you need a doorstop **
30.4.16 - RMA request acknowled - asked to phone technician. Also contacted Acer.
3.5.16 - spoke to technician Ian at ebuyer after waiting on hold for 10 minutes at about 10am this morning
Return accepted - emailed return label and arranged collection for 4.5.16

IMHO this isn't bad service, which is why I tend to keep buying from ebuyer and have done so for years.
With any luck I'll get a replacement and upgrade the BIOS before any more fiddling!

Having a nightmare trying to install Linux Mint at the moment.
Downloaded the iso, put it on a stick using rufus but can't figure out how to install it.
Got as far as 'Welcome to the Freedos 1.1' basically...which isn't very far at all!
Sorry to ask, but if anybody has any tips or could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

You could try holding F12 during startup - should bring up a boot menu where you can choose to boot from USB. Or you could change the boot order in the bios settings by pressing F2 (or sometimes DELETE) at startup. Failing that you could try another USB stick or USB creation tool - LinuxLive USB creator always works for me.

not seen this model but you probably need to use a 64bit version and in the bios there might be an option under the secure boot settings to set a boot file - something like shim64.efi

Just bought one plugging in 1 external USB3 4GB drive, with the remaining 2 USB slot I will be plugging in a DVB-t2 device and a DVB-s2 device, it should be a very cheap MythTV backend. I use a Minix Neo U1 running Kodi as a front end. Another USB device would be nice but at this price I am not complaining.

The Celeron N3050 is architecturally very similar to the Atom Z3735F in the Linx 10, though fractionally quicker. Also, you can charge a powerpack from a Linx 10 as it has a full-size USB port - though you wouldn't really want to do it from a tablet or a PC as it will charge faster from a 10W/2A wall charger.

Small world. One of them poor saps posting there was me. They had to replace the mobo on my revo but upgraded it to the pentium version instead of the atom.

The little box is great for a media player. I run 4k content at 60fps (test file with the bunny). HEVC 1080p runs fine no frame drops. I have not tried any 4k 10bit profile test files but I would expect these to not run smoothly.

I use ubuntu 16.04 minimal with this guide by the amazing Fritsch. http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=231955

The only downside I find is the fan. Its a little on the noisy side when it spins up.

pfsense was my first choice but required some crazy installation method of installing to another drive and cloning onto the emmc which will break if there are ever any boot header / kernel updates in the future.

Instead went with untangle which is my first experience with it and tbh it's ok and being debian offers a little bit more customisation than FreeBSD

Setup current is with two NICs USB ethernet + the onboard but VLANing into a switch also works preferring physical over virtual tbh

Bargain little box - though I'm surprised no-one has mentioned you can get the same/similar functionality with one of many cheap tablets (e.g. Linx 7) for less money and you kind of 'get a free display' included then too. For a great product idea and design - the usual with Acer - the norm of the after sale support channel is non existent...

Revitalise the tower market, include a portable great power bank in this day and age, then have little support of anything. You would think in 15 years Acer would learn something about after care and how vital it is....being sales driven on first sale but not further let alone software updates.

Perhaps as Revo M1 start connecting to the internet other places and Acer will provide something, given my twenty year history with them and the downfall circa the dot com boom drop of spending money on after care since then I wont hold my breath.

Acer has turned into a marketing & sales company with ok product pricing, it sells to a year on year generation cycle - newbies, most desert it because it fails to be loyal or supportive to its buyers, it depends on its pricing of products to survive solely and recycles it customer base by abusing them knowing the next customer will be a newbie to tech/Acer and thus its low to lower mid range products will sell on price alone, customers of Acer dont stay loyal because the companies activity towards them as end users.

If it was not for EU and national legislation on faulty goods Acer would not lift a finger to help its customers, its Hi, sale, bye attitude would ensure liquidation. Product faults and third party after care repair ensure most people who encounter Acer end up as Apple customers at the opposite side of the care spectrum from Acer.

Consumer recycling will eventually kill Acer.

Hope BIOS updates are coming, if not the shelf life and support of M1 for a outstanding product will beat the current holder Blackberry Playbook - great products with horrendous chief executives leading.

No problem. I do have some optimization tips, should you need them.

At first I found that some videos wouldn't play smoothly as they were using up a lot of CPU. To fix that I installed CCCP, went into the LAV video settings and set the hardware decoder to DXVA2 (native).

You might be able to play YouTube videos at 1080p or better, but not at 60fps. Install YouTube Plus (Firefox) (Chrome) and you'll get the option to disable HFR (60fps). You should also make use of h264ify (Firefox) (Chrome).

I don't yet have one of these myself to test with, so I can't really say. There are Linux benchmarks, although most of the tests are from 2015. Since then there's been kernel updates and all sorts that could of improved the results a little.

Cortana on a 32" TV at the other side of the room with a wireless keyboard and mouse is a bit of overkill for a large screen internet browsing machine, saves money on the RAM too.

Can always upgrade later when 8.1 end of main support happens in Jan 18 or extended Jan 2023 ( most probably M1 wont last till 2023 lol) https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/gp/lifecycle-windows81-faq

It might work, but it won't work well. I'm also curious as to why you'd want to run XP since it's no longer supported, it's not receiving updates, you're vulnerable to all sorts of attacks and the hardware isn't really designed for older OS's. For example, you wouldn't get TRIM support by using XP and XP isn't optimized for SSD's at all. I don't know how you'd get drivers for everything either.

IMO you're better off using a Linux distro or installing Windows 8 or newer to make use of UEFI.

That may give you a license code to use, but it neither gives you a legitimate copy of Windows 7 nor 10. OEM licenses are only valid for the original system they were sold with and are mostly non-transferable. you'd actually be better saving your money and using a dodgy license code off the internet.

Blocks should be coming to the UK soon (TM) They call it the Lego Modular PC. You can attach up to 3 Blocks so for people wanting more storage add 3 x 1TB drives on the top. They can easily be removed and connected to a PC via USB3 for easy file transfer to the Revo. They also have an Audio Block, Graphics Block, Wireless Charging block and there was also talk of a Projector block.

Unless you really want/need a very small neat box, surely this is much better value for £10 more:

Much faster CPU (3x faster from the benchmarks), 4GB RAM, fits 4 HDDs out of the box (more if you add a card), much more flexibility for expansion if needed.

It does have a fan, so it's not silent.

Finally, re the remote, ive used cheap remotes to good remotes, eventually i got one of these for my PC.

Why else do you think they have to drop the price again to shift it.

Amazon do a price drop guarantee, and one or two other places. It makes sense for an online retailer because distance selling regs give the power to the buyer and the buyer can just return the item.
