My daughter has the 32Gb model and has all updates and it runs everything without fail, no slowdowns or crashes. I would see no reason to update it at this time.

Exactly, preying on the newbie punters who failed how to count and do some maths for volume and got stuffed afterwards.

Common sense observation, all the cheap new, refurbished are all 16GB rather than 32GB or bigger. While 16GB is usable for some users and continue to do so, even upgrading iOS to 9, these 16GB models heavily discounted is saying something, I have only ever purchased 32GB models, the 16GB models which I also have needs constant housekeeping unless it is used only for email, social network, browsing only with limited storage of photos....an analogy is like living in a 6X4 foot room or 16X8 foot room. Using an external wifi media storage device does alleviate the storage problem as indeed a cloud service.

All my iPad's are 16GB and you have a point but housekeeping keeps space free. One way to free up space is to try to rent a massive HD film from the iTunes store. Make sure the film is bigger than the space left on your device and then try to rent a big HD film- it will fail but when you go back in you will find you have several hundred MBs (or more!) free. Probably due to Ipads clearing the cache but it works!

Do you think that might be because they sold a shed load more 16gb then 32gb?

ios 9 runs like a dog on my 16gb 4 that I've had from new.
I was holding out for the new ipad and would have bought last year had they released on but I'm not paying £500 plus £80 for a pen for the latest one. If it had included the pen I'd maybe have bought or was the usual £399 or even £429 but not at £499.
I can't believe they are trying to market them as pc or surface pro replacements when they are stuck with ios. Try downloading a file or software to install or copy to a pc later. Such a basic requirement and ios is so locked down you can't.

we have an ipad 3 after the last update its starting to slow, son has an ipad 2 and it is unusable now (though daughters is fine) just upgraded his to an air 2. even if its cheap it is likely to get slower and slower over time, save your money and get a more recent one that way have more life left in them.

You're right that each update makes older devices slower. Seriously bad form from Apple. I use an iPad 2, and when upgraded to ios9 it was much more noticeably slower, so I reverted back to 8 and alls good again.

have you tried factory resetting them? I have an ipad mini (same spec as ipad 2) which runs like new on 9.3.1, battery life seems better in fact. it's never been factory reset but it's also never had problems with the updates so never needed to.

So, that means that there is no guarantee at all really - you can't change the battery like you can with a laptop...

Never buy an iPad with a third-party digitizer, it is a false economy - you'll end up with dead spots or total failure sooner rather than later. Not to mention the actual complexity of changing a digitizer where you need to heat up the old glass and be careful not to slice one of many cables.
Go new, pre-owned (not repaired) or Apple refurbished.

Not worth it by a long shot. That's way too old an iPad for that money.

Well to give them credit, at least they admit it in the ad (the fact they replaced the screens/digitizers). But yeah, aftermarket stuff is a lottery. You'd at least think they could center the square on those home buttons!

How so?
3rd party digitzers are great, the one I bought recently...the home button was ALMOST in the middle of the case!
(not even joking, it was miles off, as was the print on the button, quite hilarious!)

I would not get this at all. I have an iPad Air 1 and that is fine and worth it as a refurb from Apple. Also, if you get a refurb from Apple you get their warranty and if you pick up a cheap Applecare on eBay you can extend it by an additional year.

Most likely they've bought iPads with broken screens that have fallen and just replaced the screen/digitizers. Wouldn't buy unless you're desperate for one.

I see, with 32GB model the amount of my housekeeping is drastically reduced. This explains why Judas has crossed the 32GB Jesus model in the Apple range; as the 16GB should have been crossed off leaving 32GB, 64GB, 128GB rather than 16GB, 64GB, 128GB.

The "minor blemishes on the screen" bit worries me. The whole point of an Ipad is the screen - I wouldn't want one even for that price if there was a chance the screen was marked

My son has an iPad 2 and although it is slowing down, i cant fault Apple for updating old tech as most big brands leave old devices in the cold. I bought this refurbished from Apple store and 4 years on it is still usable and my 6 year old has used it for the last 2 years. This i can imaging will be good certainly for the price you would pay. Heat from me.

Hhmmm although this is a good price for a iPad I dunno if I'd buy a old iPad now. Every update they become slower and more likely to crash. Games and apps often don't work if they need a lot of ram. So iPad Air I would say would be the best start. Anything less is imho a waste

Also if they are not an authorised dealer/repair company you will have no warranty, if you just looking for a deal and not worried about that then fine.

Good price but using one now since new. not recommend to buy this version at this moment. Better go to iPad Air 2 which has the best price/performance ratio now.
