likely they were there but overlooked, tend to be little plastic rings to pop over the main posts & secure to the wall, then they are really worth using, otherwise, potentially a bit iffy, ...all down to user at the end of the day, shelves get overloaded, overloaded or knocked can cause chaos! ..if you've got em, secure em, otherwise grab something to make good an anchor.

Just a comment. If using two, one on top of the other. I fastened then with 4 blocks of wood between them, one in each corner, and then screwed each half with four screws to the top and bottom of the block. Makes a rigid join that cannot come apart. Otherwise very good value, and not a disaster if you cock up fixing the blocks. Need a small drill bit, and the plastic shelves are encouragingly solid.
