Good deal if you need a caffiene fix. The zero calorie one tastes absolutely terrible imo, At that price though id just neck the can in one go and carry on working.

Hmmm, a zero-calorie energy drink. So your body's buzzing, wants to burn energy, but there's no energy in the drink itself. Your body must burn body reserve ( hopefully fat). If I drink a gallon a day, I should lose weight then?
It works because it contains the stimulant Caffeine. Nerve cells can't distinguish between Adenosine and Caffeine. Adenosine builds up in your body throughout the day dampening down your arousal, Caffeine effectively blocks the action of Adenosine, now with Adenosine out of action your brain goes hmm wtf is all this extra neuron firing I better treat this as an emergency and stimulate adrenaline production. Adrenaline is the fight or flight hormone. Caffeine also increases Dopamine levels, with Adenosine out of action Dopamine works more efficiently and makes you feel good. Over time if you keep taking caffeine negative feeback systems in the brain will compensate and produce even more Adenosine. If you quit caffeine cold turkey there's too much Adenosine, so you'll have reduced Dopamine efficiency also Adenosine has a nasty side effect of making you feel depressed and giving you an impending sense of doom.
So caffeine as with everthing is good in moderation, because the brain has an innate capability and want to restore order and balance it has negative feedback systems, these are the cause of addiction and withdrawal symptoms as quitting some chemicals cold turkey means the brain has compensated too far in one direction and needs to up regulate or down regulate brain cell receptors depending on the chemical ingested over a period of time. This in turn takes time so withdrawal from caffeine can be prolonged with side effects, the same is true of most recreational drugs with extremely severe side effects such as withdrawing from opiates and anti anxiety drugs such as Valium and Gabapentin.
If in doubt don't f*ck about with your brain chemistry. Caffeine withdrawal is normally acute, not as prolonged and with much less severe side effects than with recreational drugs. Everyone is different, some people don't have any withdrawals at all.
Anyway there's a long way of saying how Caffeine works
